Book Planning County Agricultural Extension Programs Classic Reprint

Download or read book Planning County Agricultural Extension Programs Classic Reprint written by Fred B. Morris and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-11-07 with total page 34 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Planning County Agricultural Extension Programs This type of planning served a useful purpose, but after a number of years the weakness of the plan became apparent. County programs too often grew to be long lists of miscellaneous projects organized to meet the many and varied requests from each community. Such programs tended to call for far more activity that the county agent could effectively carry out. He spread his time and energy over too many fields of work and upon problems that were not of vital importance. Farmer leadership was not sufficiently developed, nor were agents experienced in selecting and training them. So today although a few counties still continue this type of planning, in general most counties have modified this procedure in many ways. Book Land Use Planning Under Way Classic Reprint

Download or read book Land Use Planning Under Way Classic Reprint written by U. S. Bureau of Agricultural Economics and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-11-18 with total page 60 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Land Use Planning Under Way UP and down the land during the last year, farm men and women have organized themselves into community and county land use planning committees. In counties in 47 States they are sitting down with representatives of Federal, State, and local agencies to develop agricultural plans, policies and programs for their counties. These committees are planning for action by individuals, by groups, or by public agencies. What sort of problems are the committees tackling? How are they trying to solve these problems? What results have they achieved? Where are the committees located? What about the size and composition of the county committees? Of the community committees? These are just a few of the questions that have been asked since the United States Department of Agriculture and the land-grant colleges agreed to cooperate in sponsoring land use planning by farmers. This publication has been prepared to answer many such questions. But first it is necessary to consider briefly a few more basic questions. What is county land use planning in the first place? How did it come about? How does it work? Let us start with the question, What is county land use planning? It is a cooperative effort on the part of representative farmers, various agencies of the Department of Agriculture, the land-grant colleges, and other State and local agencies to work out agricultural plans and policies that will (1) aid in coordinating various agricultural programs so that they will fit together into a well-rounded whole, (2) help them function most effectively toward long-time as well as emergency goals, and (3) develop any new programs that are needed. Book Planning for a Permanent Agriculture

Download or read book Planning for a Permanent Agriculture written by United States Department Of Agriculture and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-11-06 with total page 84 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Planning for a Permanent Agriculture: Including a Summary of the Programs Administered by the Department of Agriculture That Influence the Use of the Land But how can we bring the technical experts and the farmers to gether so that they may pool their information and arrive at common judgments in order to guide the various public programs properly? How can farmers make the fullest use of these public programs in solving their own farm management problems? For almost 5 years the Department of Agriculture and the agricultural colleges and experiment stations have wrestled with these two questions. They decided new planning procedures were clearly needed to answer them. As an outcome of their efforts they agreed in the summer of 1938 on a method of program planning that promises to assure that farmers will have greater voice in planning the application of public programs to their local situations. They subscribed to an understanding known as the Mount Weather agreement. Under this agreement the land-grant colleges and the Department will cooperate in helping farmers to establish program planning procedures. Book Colleges of Agriculture at the Land Grant Universities

Download or read book Colleges of Agriculture at the Land Grant Universities written by National Research Council and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 1995-10-27 with total page 166 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Although few Americans work as farmers these days, agriculture on the whole remains economically importantâ€"playing a key role in such contemporary issues as consumer health and nutrition, worker safety and animal welfare, and environmental protection. This publication provides a comprehensive picture of the primary education system for the nation's agriculture industry: the land grant colleges of agriculture. Colleges of Agriculture at the Land Grant Universities informs the public debate about the challenges that will shape the future of these colleges and serves as a foundation for a second volume, which will present recommendations for policy and institutional changes in the land grant system. This book reviews the legislative history of the land grant system from its establishment in 1862 to the 1994 act conferring land grant status on Native American colleges. It describes trends that have shaped agriculture and agricultural education over the decadesâ€"the shift of labor from farm to factory, reasons for and effects of increased productivity and specialization, the rise of the corporate farm, and more. The committee reviews the system's three-part missionâ€"education, research, and extension serviceâ€"and through this perspective documents the changing nature of funding and examines the unique structure of the U.S. agricultural research and education system. Demographic data on faculties, students, extension staff, commodity and funding clusters, and geographic specializations profile the system and identify similarities and differences among the colleges of agriculture, trends in funding, and a host of other issues. The tables in the appendix provide further itemization about general population distribution, student and educator demographics, types of degree programs, and funding allocations. Concise commentary and informative graphics augment the detailed statistical presentations. This book will be important to policymakers, administrators, educators, researchers, and students of agriculture.
