This book was released on 2017-11-05 with total page 136 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Plane Geometry by the Suggestive Method Tms book is designed for the use of beginners in geometry in second ary schools, and has been used for several years in a simpler form by the teachers of mathematics in the Somerville (mass) English High School. N o attempt has been made to depart in the least from the subject-matter given in the regular Euclidian geometries; the variation from the well-known texts has been more in regard to the presentation of the theorems and the method of development. To those teachers who feel the need of a book intermediate in treatment between a sylla bus and a geometry of completely demonstrated theorems, this work is confidently submitted. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Plane and Solid Geometry: Suggestive Method The treatment of the theory of measurement has been modified to make it more easily understood. A treatment of the application of pro portion has been suggested that will make the pupil more independent in his work, and at the same time it has not increased the difficulty of the subject. The book, as now arranged, is sufficient for all college entrance requirements, yet it can be completed, including all the exercises, by, high-school pupils in one school year. For those schools that devote a. Year and a half to the subject additional work has been placed in the Appendix, to which references are given in the text, so that the various propositions and exercises can be taken up in logical order. A fuller treatment of the theory of limits, which many teachers desire, is also given in the Appendix. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book Plane Geometry Suggestive Method

Download or read book Plane Geometry Suggestive Method written by George Clinton Shutts and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2015-06-15 with total page 251 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Plane Geometry Suggestive Method It is believed that the subject of limits is treated in so simple a manner that beginners can grasp it. An edition, consisting of the theorems, the diagrams, the things given, and the things to prove, without suggestions for demonstration, will accompany the book for class-room use. It is hoped that this will be found as valuable in Geometry teaching as "text editions" have been in teaching the classics. This "Class-Room Edition" will save the time of the recitation usually consumed by the pupils in drawing the figures upon the blackboard. The complete edition of the book can be banished from the recitation and the temptation to get assistance from the text eliminated. The blackboards can thus be reserved for original demonstrations of exercises and for suggestive work by the teacher. The Class-Room Edition will lengthen the daily recitation, and make it possible for more work to be done in a year. The author wishes to thank those who have given the previous edition of the book so kind a reception. It is hoped that the present book will more fully meet the needs of all teachers who wish their pupils to make the largest possible growth in independent thinking in Geometry. Acknowledgment should be made of the scholarly criticism of Dr. C. A. Van Velzer, Head of the Department of Mathematics in the University of Wisconsin, for his helpful services in preparing for publication the manuscript of the first edition of the book. Thanks are also due for valuable suggestions in reading the proof to Mr. G. E. Bunsa, Superintendent of Schools, Columbus, Wisconsin; Mr. R. L. Sandwick, Principal of the Deerfield Township High School, Highland Park, Illinois; Miss Genevieve Decker, Teacher of Mathematics in the High School, Janesville, Wisconsin; Miss Maud Averill, Teacher of Mathematics in the High School, Whitewater, Wisconsin, and to Mr. Frank P. Dodge, Instructor in Mathematics in the Roxbury Latin School, Roxbury, Massachusetts. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Plane Geometry Every attempt has been made to create and cultivate the heuristic attitude on the part of the pupil. This has been done by the method of initiating the pupil into original work described above, by queries in the course 'of proofs, and also at the bottom of different pages, and also by occasional queries in the course of the text where definitions and discussions are presented. In the writer's opinion, the time has not yet come for the purely heuristic study of Geometry in most schools, but it is all-important to use every means to arouse in the pupil the attitude and energy of original investigation in the study of the subject. In other respects, the aim has been to depart as little as possible from the methods most generally used at present in teaching geometry. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Solid Geometry The Solid Geometry is prepared for the same purpose and with the same general features as is the Plane Geometry. In both books the two main characteristics are analysis and emphasis. One of the great objectives in education is to train young people to attack difficulties through an analysis of the problems presented. It is because of this fact that both the Plane and the Solid Geometry are prepared as suggestive method texts with the suggestions in the form of a logical analysis. Book New Plane Geometry Classic Reprint

Download or read book New Plane Geometry Classic Reprint written by Wooster Woodruff Beman and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-12 with total page 266 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from New Plane Geometry In Algebra he has studied, among other things, the equation, and has found that if A a: 1 5, a: must equal 12. In Geometry he is to study form, and he will find, for example, that two triangles must necessarily be equal if the three sides of the one are respectively equal to the three sides of the other. Before beginning the subject, however, there are certain terms which, although familiar, are used with such exactness as to require careful explanation. These terms are solid, sur face, line, angle (with various kinds of each), and point. As with most elementary mathematical terms, such as number, space, etc., it is difficult to give them simple and satisfactory definition. Explanations can, however, be given which will lead the student to a reasonable understanding of them. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
