Book Pile Design and Construction Practice Fifth Edition

Download or read book Pile Design and Construction Practice Fifth Edition written by Michael Tomlinson and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2007-12-06 with total page 14 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This international handbook is essential for geotechnical engineers and engineering geologists responsible for designing and constructing piled foundations. It explains general principles and practice and details current types of pile, piling equipment and methods. It includes calculations of the resistance of piles to compressive loads, pile groups under compressive loading, piled foundations for resisting uplift and lateral loading and the structural design of piles and pile groups. Marine structures, miscellaneous problems (including machinery foundations, underpinning, mining subsidence areas, contracts and frozen ground), durability of piled foundations, ground investigations, and pile testing are also covered. It introduces the 2005 version of Eurocode7, BS 8004 and other codes, and refers to BS 6349 on maritime structures, and new forms of civil engineering contracts suitable for piling projects. It includes numerous worked examples to the codes, many based on actual problems. It also gives very comprehensive information for students.

Book KWIC Index of Rock Mechanics Literature

Download or read book KWIC Index of Rock Mechanics Literature written by J P Jenkins and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2016-06-03 with total page 744 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: KWIC Index of Rock Mechanics Literature, Part 2: 1969-1976 is an index of subjects in rock mechanics. The KWIC (keyword-in-context) index is produced by cyclic permutation of significant words in the title of the publication. The text covers materials in rock mechanics and geomechanics published around the 70s. The book will be of great use to students, researchers, and practitioners of geological sciences.

Book 100 Years of Prandtl s Wedge

Download or read book 100 Years of Prandtl s Wedge written by S. Van Baars and published by IOS Press. This book was released on 2018-04-17 with total page 144 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The biggest problem for a shallow foundation, just as for any other type of foundation, is a failure due to an overestimation of the bearing capacity. This means that the correct prediction of the bearing capacity of the foundation is often the most important part of the design of a civil structure. That is why the publication by Prandtl in 1920 about the hardness of a plastic body, was a major step in solving the bearing capacity of shallow foundations, although it is well possible that he never realised this, because his solution was not made for civil engineering purposes, but for mechanical purposes. Over the last 100 years, a lot of extensions have been made, for example with inclination factors and shape factors. Also many laboratory experiments have been done and numerical calculations have been made. Some even try to extrapolate the failure mechanism for shallow foundations to the failure mechanism around the tip of a pile. All this scientific work leads back to the first publication by Ludwig Prandtl in 1920. This book, “100 Years of Prandtl’s Wedge”, is intended for all those who are interested in these fundamentals of foundation engineering and their history. The Appendices include a copy of Prandtl’s Über die Härte plastischer Körper and of Reissner’s publication of 1924, Zum Erddruckproblem.

Book Piling Engineering

Download or read book Piling Engineering written by Ken Fleming and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1994-03-17 with total page 400 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Piling is a fast-moving field and in recent years there have been major advances in theory, methods, testing procedures and equipment. Some of these changes have been driven by the need for economies by improved efficiency, reduced spoil production and new methods of pile bore support. Advances in theoretical analyses allow pile design to be refined so that piles and pile groups perform to better advantage.

Book Correlations of Soil and Rock Properties in Geotechnical Engineering

Download or read book Correlations of Soil and Rock Properties in Geotechnical Engineering written by Jay Ameratunga and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-12-11 with total page 236 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents a one-stop reference to the empirical correlations used extensively in geotechnical engineering. Empirical correlations play a key role in geotechnical engineering designs and analysis. Laboratory and in situ testing of soils can add significant cost to a civil engineering project. By using appropriate empirical correlations, it is possible to derive many design parameters, thus limiting our reliance on these soil tests. The authors have decades of experience in geotechnical engineering, as professional engineers or researchers. The objective of this book is to present a critical evaluation of a wide range of empirical correlations reported in the literature, along with typical values of soil parameters, in the light of their experience and knowledge. This book will be a one-stop-shop for the practising professionals, geotechnical researchers and academics looking for specific correlations for estimating certain geotechnical parameters. The empirical correlations in the forms of equations and charts and typical values are collated from extensive literature review, and from the authors' database.
