Book excerpt: In España: Six Album Leaves, Op. 165, Albéniz magically transports the listener to colorful locations, each with its own special Spanish flavor. These musical "postcards" are not particularly difficult to play, and are somewhere between the late intermediate and early advanced levels. This edition aids in interpretation through added fingerings, pedal and indications for subtle changes in tempo, which are integral to the performance of Spanish music. Dr. Kuehl-White studied in Barcelona with legendary Spanish pianist Alicia de Larrocha, who provided a tremendous legacy regarding the performance practice traditions of Albéniz’s music. España was initially published with many errors and omissions. Over the years, editors have produced new editions with some corrections, but little interpretive assistance. This edition not only contains numerous corrections, but also aids in interpretation through various additions in the score. Titles: * Prélude * Tango * Malagueña * Serenata * Capricho Catalán * Zortzico

Book The Music of Chopin

    Book Details:
  • Author : Jim Samson
  • Publisher : Routledge & Kegan Paul Books
  • Release : 1985
  • ISBN :
  • Pages : 272 pages

Download or read book The Music of Chopin written by Jim Samson and published by Routledge & Kegan Paul Books. This book was released on 1985 with total page 272 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The lasting popularity of Chopin's music has reached "from salon to slum." He captured and expressed the spirit of the age of Romanticism, its ardour and idealism, its longing and restlessness, its love of spontaneity, with an authority his contemporaries immediately recognized and which successive generations have admired and loved. Much of the Chopin literature in English is biographical, but this book is a critical study of the music itself and of the creative process which is central to the life of any composer. Samson provides a detailed analysis of the style and structure of the music in the light of recent Chopin scholarship on the one hand and recent analytical methods on the other. The early chapters deal mainly with the sources and the characteristic profile of Chopin's musical style, relating his music to a wider context in social and stylistic history. Later chapters look rather at the structure of his music and how it functions, with many examples highlighting the discussion.

Book Piano Concerto in a Minor Op 54 Edition for 2 Pianos Sheet

Download or read book Piano Concerto in a Minor Op 54 Edition for 2 Pianos Sheet written by Michael Musgrave and published by Edition Peters. This book was released on 2022-05 with total page 116 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: New Urtext Edition by Michael Musgrave Schumann's Piano Concerto traces its origins, through the first movement, to a single-movement Phantasie in A minor for piano and orchestra which was completed in May 1841 (his symphonic year) and revised at the beginning of 1843. Clara Schumann, who had long wanted a major work for piano and orchestra from Schumann, played through the Phantasie with the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra in 1841 but, although she played it again in 1843, it was never publicly performed, nor a publisher found, even though they were both happy with the work. In the summer of 1845 in Dresden, where they had now moved, Schumann revised the Phantasie and added a second and third movement to form what is described on the surviving manuscript of the full score as Concerto for piano . . . with accompaniment . . .. It was premiered on 4 December 1845 at a special Clara Schumann concert with Dresden musicians, independent of the regular subscription concerts, conducted by their friend and supporter Ferdinand Hiller, the dedicatee. The performance was critically successful, and a second performance was arranged at the more prestigious Leipzig Gewandhaus at the 11th subscription concert on New Year's Day 1846, under its conductor Mendelssohn. This performance was an even greater success than the first, and quickly established itself as a repertory work. Schumann made corrections to the orchestral parts for the performance he conducted with Clara at the Lower Rhine Music Festival in May 1853. The history of the work is dominated by Clara Schumann's promotion of it over a period of 40 years or so. Robert Schumann never played the work, since he had given up public performance by the time of its composition. All evidence is that Clara played it to his great satisfaction, and it was obviously meant for her. This Urtext edition by Schumann scholar Michael Musgrave contains a preface in English, German and Frenc
