Book Concurrent Aerobic and Strength Training

Download or read book Concurrent Aerobic and Strength Training written by Moritz Schumann and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-10-31 with total page 408 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides an extensive guide for exercise and health professionals, students, scientists, sport coaches, athletes of various sports and those with a general interest in concurrent aerobic and strength training. Following a brief historical overview of the past decades of research on concurrent training, in section 1 the epigenetic as well as physiological and neuromuscular differences of aerobic and strength training are discussed. Thereafter, section 2 aims at providing an up-to-date analysis of existing explanations for the interference phenomenon, while in section 3 the training-methodological difficulties of combined aerobic and strength training are elucidated. In section 4 and 5, the theoretical considerations reviewed in previous sections will then be practically applied to specific populations, ranging from children and elderly to athletes of various sports. Concurrent Aerobic and Strength Training: Scientific Basics and Practical Applications is a novel book on one of the “hot topics” of exercise training. The Editors' highest priority is to make this book an easily understandable and at the same time scientifically supported guide for the daily practice.

Book Science and Application of High Intensity Interval Training

Download or read book Science and Application of High Intensity Interval Training written by Laursen, Paul and published by Human Kinetics. This book was released on 2019 with total page 672 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The popularity of high-intensity interval training (HIIT), which consists primarily of repeated bursts of high-intensity exercise, continues to soar because its effectiveness and efficiency have been proven in use by both elite athletes and general fitness enthusiasts. Surprisingly, few resources have attempted to explain both the science behind the HIIT movement and its sport-specific application to athlete training. That’s why Science and Application of High-Intensity Interval Training is a must-have resource for sport coaches, strength and conditioning professionals, personal trainers, and exercise physiologists, as well as for researchers and sport scientists who study high-intensity interval training.

Book Acute Physiological Responses During High Intensity Interval Training and Continuous Exercise Training

Download or read book Acute Physiological Responses During High Intensity Interval Training and Continuous Exercise Training written by Michelle M. Harbin and published by . This book was released on 2014 with total page 96 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The aim of this study was to investigate the correlation between improvements in aerobic and anaerobic power with various acute physiological responses, including blood lactate accumulation (HLa), percent heart rate reserve (%HRR), Rating of Perceived Exertion (RPE), session RPE (sRPE), and the training impulse (TRIMP) during high intensity interval training (HIIT) compared to moderate intensity interval training and continuous training. Fifty-five subjects aged 18 to 29 completed a pre and post VO2max and Wingate test on the cycle ergometer. Subjects completed 24 sessions of either a steady-state exercise control at 90% of the power output (PO) at the ventilatory threshold (VT), a Meyer interval protocol with 30:60 seconds exercise-to-rest ratio at 100% of peak power output (PPO), or a Tabata interval protocol with 20:10 seconds exercise-to-rest ratio at 170% of VO2max.

Book Physiological Response to Cycling at Different Pedal Rates During High Intensity Interval Training

Download or read book Physiological Response to Cycling at Different Pedal Rates During High Intensity Interval Training written by Bryan C. Lund and published by . This book was released on 2017 with total page 79 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Abstract: This study compared the physiological responses to an acute bout of High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) done at different pedal rates. 9 participants performed 3, 20-minute HIIT protocols consisting of a 1:1 "work:recovery" ratio on a cycle ergometer at intensities equivalent to 80% and 50% (respectively) of their PPO found from a graded exercise test. Participants' freely chosen cadence were found then a high cadence (HC) and low cadence (LC) were then calculated to be 25% above and below that. During each HIIT session oxygen uptake (VO2), heart rate (HR), minute ventilation (V ́ E), blood lactate (bLa), and rating of perceived exertion (RPE) were measured. Averages, mean peak values, and mean nadir values were calculated then analyzed using a repeated measures ANOVA (p ≤0.05). HR, VO2, and V ́E were expressed as a percentage of the peak values obtained during the GXT. Results indicate a significant effect from cadence on all measures, but post hoc revealed varying results for the pairwise comparisons.

Book Psychological Responses to High intensity Interval Training Exercise

Download or read book Psychological Responses to High intensity Interval Training Exercise written by Abby Fleming and published by . This book was released on 2019 with total page 57 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study investigated the effects of ungraded running and graded walking as modalities of HIIT on enjoyment, perceived exertion, and affect. 29 healthy males and females (aged 23.3 ± 5.1) volunteered to participate in the study. Participants completed six visits to the laboratory: the first was a medical screening to ensure safety of the participants. For the second and third visits, participants completed two maximal treadmill exercise tests, one running and one walking. On the fourth visit, the speed needed for the run HIIT (running speed: 6.9 ± 1.2mph) and the grade needed for the walk HIIT (walking speed: 3.3 ± 0.3mph, walking grade: 17.2 ± 3.1%) experimental trials were confirmed. During the last two visits, participants completed both of the two (run HIIT and walk HIIT) randomized and counterbalanced experimental trials. Affective valence was measured at baseline and post-exercise. The single-item Feeling Scale (FS) and the Borg 6-20 RPE scale (both overall exertion and legs-only exertion) were used to measure in-task ratings of affect and exertion. The Physical Activity Enjoyment Scale (PACES) and FS were used to measure post-exercise ratings of enjoyment and affect. Results revealed a main effect for condition for post-exercise enjoyment (p

Book Acute Effects of High intensity Interval Exercise Vs Concurrent Exercise on Flow mediated Dilation in College aged Women

Download or read book Acute Effects of High intensity Interval Exercise Vs Concurrent Exercise on Flow mediated Dilation in College aged Women written by Ashley N. Allen and published by . This book was released on 2019 with total page 114 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Heart disease is the leading cause of female mortality worldwide. As a treatment, exercise can improve cardiac and endothelial function, increase bone mineral density, promote lean muscle mass, and improve pulmonary function. The purpose of this study was to compare the effect of two different modes of exercise on flow mediated dilation in the brachial artery in college-aged women. Ten recreationally active women were assigned to either a high intensity interval group (HT) or a group who completed strength exercises and high intensity interval exercise, called the concurrent exercise group (CT). Measurements of flow mediated dilation (i.e., the hyperemic response of a blood vessel post occlusion) were taken at baseline, after one workout session, and after three workout sessions. There were no differences for FDM% or brachial artery diameter across all time points for either training protocol. Neither a combination of high-intensity interval exercise and resistance exercise or high-intensity interval exercise alone acutely led to structural or functional changes in the brachial artery in recreationally active healthy young women.

Book Muscles Do Matter

Book excerpt: This book will explain to you why muscles are essential to good health and how to maximize your skeletal muscle health through exercise, diet, and appropriate nutritional supplements. The goal is to help you focus much more on your body composition and functional abilities rather than just your body weight. Unfortunately, people, including many health professionals often regard age-related muscle loss as a problem of the elderly. It's not. This book is to help anyone over the age of forty years understand the fundamental importance of their skeletal muscle to their overall wellbeing and successful aging. I often call the forties the forgotten years, where people fully occupied with multiple commitments can often lose sight of their health. Rest assured, the principles in this book apply to people of any age! By applying the recommendations in this book, you will be stronger, healthier, and wiser.
