Book Physiological Basis of Acute Care E Book

Download or read book Physiological Basis of Acute Care E Book written by Yoo Kuen Chan and published by Elsevier Health Sciences. This book was released on 2012-03-16 with total page 184 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The aim of this book is to simplify physiological principles in a logical manner and provide important and relevant content to help care providers better manage their acutely ill patients. First time learners as well as health care professionals needing a short refresher course in physiology will find simple, easy-to-understand, basic physiology that is relevant to both the student and the professional care provider. With a focus on the importance of good oxygen delivery as the basis of sustaining life, this book links the fabric of life together and enables readers to apply the principles of physiology to clinical problems and situations. Understanding why the patient has become unwell and how the patient may present, signs and symptoms of patient deterioration as well as the recommended management of these patients enables the care provider to prioritize care decisions relating to the needs of the acutely ill patient. Thus, care providers will be able to incorporate this new way of examining patients so that care which is often approached in a clinical manner, will now be physiologically driven. • Chapters that link the management of life such as Basis of Life and Physiology of Death for frontline providers. • Chapters covering important organ systems from airway to kidney, including energy, heat and acid-base balance. • Special chapters on maternal-foetal, paediatrics, elderly and obesity. • Clinical implication and application sections within each chapter for students to relate to clinical practice. • Medical illustrations by Frank Netter, the foremost master of medical illustration. • 58 fully coloured illustrations, diagrams and charts to enhance learning and understanding. • Content reviewed by international and Malaysian academicians. Table of Contents 1. What is Physiology? 2. Basis of Life 3. Oxygen Delivery to the Tissues 4. Physiology of the Airway 5. Process of Breathing 6. Cardiovascular Physiology 7. Book Pharmacological Basis of Acute Care

Download or read book Pharmacological Basis of Acute Care written by Yoo Kuen Chan and published by Springer. This book was released on 2014-11-19 with total page 266 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is the 4th in a series of Acute Care books written with the aim to address the NEEDS of health care providers when handling the acutely ill patients. Globally it has become apparent that the study of pharmacology and subsequent clinical training has not always adequately equipped young doctors with the ability to administer drugs to their patients safely and confidently, particularly in the critically ill patient. Compounding this issue is the lack of resource material related to these pharmacological concepts contained in one book that can help health care providers to understand and manage drug therapy in the acute situation. In spite of progressively newer and more developed protocols, guidelines, algorithms and many other books addressing the technical aspects of what needs to be done, most health care providers still find it difficult to grasp the basic pharmacological knowledge and rationally deliver the CARE that is required in the acute phase of patient management. The editors/authors have therefore aimed for a book that highlights topics and pharmacological issues pertinent to management of patients in their hour of need. This is a multi-author book but the style has been guided by 3 editors. The editors have used a different perspective – that of normalizing abnormal physiological processes with pharmacological agents – to address the GAPS in a bedside to bench approach. The details are pared down but important principles/concepts are emphasized.

Book Textbook of Post ICU Medicine

Download or read book Textbook of Post ICU Medicine written by Robert D. Stevens and published by Academic. This book was released on 2014 with total page 649 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Surviving critical illness is not always the happy ending that we imagine for patients. Intensive care unit (ICU) teams have traditionally focused on short term goals such as stabilizing or reversing organ system dysfunction, with little understanding of what became of patients once they left the ICU. However, research conducted in recent years has demonstrated that many ICU survivors can suffer from ill health and mental health issues for months or years to follow. The Textbook of Post-ICU Medicine: The Legacy of Critical Care identifies the long term outcomes of ICU and the steps that can be taken to improve patients' health and wellbeing. Describing the major clinical syndromes affecting ICU survivors, the book delineates established or postulated biological mechanisms of the post-acute recovery process, and discusses strategies for treatment and rehabilitation to promote recovery in the ICU and in the long term. The book serves as a unique reference for general practitioners, internists and nurses caring for long term ICU survivors as well as specialists in intensive care medicine, neurology, psychiatry, and rehabilitation medicine.

Book Trauma Induced Coagulopathy

Download or read book Trauma Induced Coagulopathy written by Hunter B. Moore and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-10-12 with total page 802 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The first edition of this publication was aimed at defining the current concepts of trauma induced coagulopathy by critically analyzing the most up-to-date studies from a clinical and basic science perspective. It served as a reference source for any clinician interested in reviewing the pathophysiology, diagnosis, and management of the coagulopathic trauma patient, and the data that supports it. By meticulously describing the methodology of most traditional as well as state of the art coagulation assays the reader is provided with a full understanding of the tests that are used to study trauma induced coagulopathy. With the growing interest in understanding and managing coagulation in trauma, this second edition has been expanded to 46 chapters from its original 35 to incorporate the massive global efforts in understanding, diagnosing, and treating trauma induced coagulopathy. The evolving use of blood products as well as recently introduced hemostatic medications is reviewed in detail. The text provides therapeutic strategies to treat specific coagulation abnormalities following severe injury, which goes beyond the first edition that largely was based on describing the mechanisms causing coagulation abnormalities. Trauma Induced Coagulopathy 2nd Edition is a valuable reference to clinicians that are faced with specific clinical challenges when managing coagulopathy.
