Book Organic Solid State Chemistry

Download or read book Organic Solid State Chemistry written by Gautam R. Desiraju and published by Elsevier Publishing Company. This book was released on 1987 with total page 580 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With the growing recognition that many organic reactions may be conducted easily in the solid state and that organic solids may have unique optical/electronic properties, there has been much interest - in both academia and industry - in the subject of organic solid state chemistry. This book provides, for the first time, a coherent, unified view of the subject. It describes the packing of molecular crystals and how this packing influences chemical reactions in the solid state. It is concerned with various means of studying the chemistry and physics of molecules in constrained environments. Both experimental and theoretical approaches are discussed. Finally, it tackles the question of prediction of crystal packing, or crystal engineering'. The strength of the book lies in the twin approach adopted, namely that both conceptual and comprehensive chapters are present, in almost equal numbers.

Book Organic Solid State Chemistry 2

Download or read book Organic Solid State Chemistry 2 written by M. D. Cohen and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 231 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Organic Solid-State Chemistry–2 presents the solid state reactions in molecular crystals. This book discusses the correlations of the chemical structures of products from organic solid state reactions with the molecular packing in the reactant crystal structures. Organized into 10 chapters, this book begins with an overview of the molecular behavior after the chemical transition state. This text then examines the electron paramagnetic resonance methods, which offer many features in connection with the study of chemical reactions in which a paramagnetic species is a product or a reactant. Other chapters consider the interpretation of radiationless transitions, thermal reactions, and photochemical decompositions and rearrangements. The final chapter deals with the experimental results concerning electron and hole production in anthracene crystals, with emphasis on the relevance of these studies to the fundamental question of the nature of the excess electron states in these low mobility crystals. This book is a valuable resource for solid state chemists, photochemists, spectroscopists, scientists, and research workers.

Book Organic Solid State Reactions

Download or read book Organic Solid State Reactions written by Fumio Toda and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-14 with total page 279 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Most organic reactions have long been carried out in organic solvents without concern for their real necessity, reaction efficiency, and pollution problems. Very recently, we have found that most organic reactions can be carried out in the absence of a solvent, namely, in the solid state. In many cases, the solid-state reaction proceeds more easily and efficiently, and even more selectively than solution reaction. This shows that molecules move easily and selectively in the solid state. This finding changed the classical idea which suggests "molecules do not move and reactions do not occur in the solid state", and opened up a new research field for the study molecular dynamics in the solid state. The organic solid state reactions have many possibilities to be developed. For example, enantioselective reactions can easily be accomplished by carrying out the reaction in an inclusion complex crystal with an optically active host compound. Catalytic reactions also proceed in the solid state. Moreover, the solid-state reactions are more economical and ecologically sound. In the future, pollution-free synthetic procedures in the solid state will become increasingly important, not only in chemical industries but also in university laboratories.

Book Organic Solid State Lasers

Download or read book Organic Solid State Lasers written by Sébastien Forget and published by Springer. This book was released on 2013-07-03 with total page 179 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Organic lasers are broadly tunable coherent sources, potentially compact, convenient and manufactured at low-costs. Appeared in the mid 60’s as solid-state alternatives for liquid dye lasers, they recently gained a new dimension after the demonstration of organic semiconductor lasers in the 90's. More recently, new perspectives appeared at the nanoscale, with organic polariton and surface plasmon lasers. After a brief reminder to laser physics, a first chapter exposes what makes organic solid-state organic lasers specific. The laser architectures used in organic lasers are then reviewed, with a state-of-the-art review of the performances of devices with regard to output power, threshold, lifetime, beam quality etc. A survey of the recent trends in the field is given, highlighting the latest developments with a special focus on the challenges remaining for achieving direct electrical pumping of organic semiconductor lasers. A last chapter covers the applications of organic solid-state lasers.

Download or read book Molecular Clusters written by Thomas Fehlner and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2007-07-05 with total page 388 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Clusters can be viewed as solids at the nano-scale, yet molecular cluster chemistry and solid state chemistry have traditionally been considered as separate topics. This treatment has made it conceptually difficult to appreciate commonalities of structure and bonding between the two. Using analogous models, this is the first book to form a connecting bridge. Although the focus is on clusters, sufficient attention is paid to solid-state compounds at each stage of the development to establish the interrelationship between the two topics. Comprehensive coverage of cluster types by composition, size and ligation, is provided, as is a synopsis of selected research. Written in an accessible style and highly illustrated to aid understanding, this book is suitable for researchers in inorganic chemistry, physical chemistry, materials science, and condensed matter physics.

This book was released on 2002-07-25 with total page 606 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Solid state chemistry is a multidisciplinary field that deals with the synthesis, structural characterization and properties of various solids, and it has been playing a more and more important role in the design and preparation of advanced materials. This book includes the excellent research results recently obtained by a wide spectrum of solid state chemists both from China and from abroad.
