Book excerpt: Excerpt from Physical Education in the Infant School The teacher should never ask or press a child to do anything, but should leave him to experiment by himself and set his own pace. It should be borne in mind that the child is the best judge of his own powers and strength and should therefore be allowed to explore in his own way and his own time. The child will learn to rely upon himself, and thereby in confidence, thus passing on step by step with increasing skill and courage. Book School Program in Physical Education Classic Reprint

Download or read book School Program in Physical Education Classic Reprint written by Clark W. Hetherington and published by . This book was released on 2015-06-30 with total page 150 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from School Program in Physical Education The report of Clark W. Hetherington, herewith submitted, on a proposed "School Program in Physical Education" is very broad in its scope. Beginning with a concise review of the rise of physical education in the public schools, it proceeds to a destructive critical analysis of the attempts that have been made to adapt European methods of physical education to American schools, and thence it passes to a constructive scientific presentation of the problems, objectives, and principles involved in the organization of a school program. Perhaps the greatest contribution made by the author in this report is to be found in his treatment of the primary aims of physical education. He shows how the big-muscle activities must be organized as an essential and bulky phase of child life, and then how these big-muscle activities must be organized in such ways as to secure their inherent values for the development of the fundamental intellectual, emotional, nervous, and organic powers underlying efficiency in life. Mr. Hetherington has had much experience and much success both as a teacher and as a supervisor of physical education. His theories, therefore, have been submitted to the test of experiment in school work and on the playground. They are the conclusions derived from long observation and much experimentation as well as from thought and study. Book An Outline of Physical Education

Download or read book An Outline of Physical Education written by Ernst Hermann and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-02-03 with total page 146 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from An Outline of Physical Education: For Primary and Grammar Schools, Junior High Schools and High Schools From whatever point of view we study the value of motor education as a part of every child's education, we find it of such great importance both pedagogically and hygienically that we cannot consider it a minor phase of education any longer. In fact, a brief review of the factors which have always influenced human growth and development, physical as well as mental, must convince us of the need of paying more attention to the motor education of our children. Nobody will deny that the environment of a child is, next to its racial inheritance, the most powerful factor in its development towards mature physical, mental, moral, and social efficiency. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Minimum Essentials in an Adequate Physical Education Program for High Schools As indicated by the title, the defelopment of this thesis must necessarily be comprehensive rather than in tensive. Since it is to cover the whole field of physi cal education for high schools. No one problem can betdealt with in minute detail- the purpose of the paper is-rather to bring together the broad general principles which should form the basis of a good physical education program for high schools. Enough of detail, however, will be used to make the various phases of the problem clear. Specific, and practical. Whenever it is impossible. Because of the scope of the problem. To use that amount of detail which.would most completely develop an essential point, definite refer ences will be made to articles or books in which that point has been covered fully. Thus it is hoped to make a unified and condensed report of what might otherwise seem to be too general a problem for a thesis.
