Book Optical Fiber Telecommunications Volume VIA

Download or read book Optical Fiber Telecommunications Volume VIA written by Ivan Kaminow and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2013-05-03 with total page 795 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Optical Fiber Telecommunications VI (A&B) is the sixth in a series that has chronicled the progress in the R&D of lightwave communications since the early 1970s. Written by active authorities from academia and industry, this edition brings a fresh look to many essential topics, including devices, subsystems, systems and networks. A central theme is the enabling of high-bandwidth communications in a cost-effective manner for the development of customer applications. These volumes are an ideal reference for R&D engineers and managers, optical systems implementers, university researchers and students, network operators, and investors. Volume A is devoted to components and subsystems, including photonic integrated circuits, multicore and few-mode fibers, photonic crystals, silicon photonics, signal processing, and optical interconnections.

Book Optical and Photonic Components

Download or read book Optical and Photonic Components written by Stefano Selleri and published by Societa Editrice Esculapio. This book was released on 2015 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Photonics originated as a research discipline during the 1960s, with the invention and production of the first lasers. The development of these optical sources was followed in the 1970s by the large-scale deployment of optical fibers, as a medium for information transmission by means of light beams. In the years that followed, scientific research and constant technological development fostered a revolution in the telecommunications field. The association of photonics with other disciplines opened new horizons, unimaginable just a few decades ago. This volume, as it contains material intended for prospective telecommunications and electronic engineers who are going to professionally design optics-based devices and subsystems, it also presents the basic notions to approach further disciplines with which photonics may pro tably interact.

Book Fundamentals of Photonics

Download or read book Fundamentals of Photonics written by Bahaa E. A. Saleh and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2020-03-04 with total page 2134 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fundamentals of Photonics A complete, thoroughly updated, full-color third edition Fundamentals of Photonics, Third Edition is a self-contained and up-to-date introductory-level textbook that thoroughly surveys this rapidly expanding area of engineering and applied physics. Featuring a blend of theory and applications, coverage includes detailed accounts of the primary theories of light, including ray optics, wave optics, electromagnetic optics, and photon optics, as well as the interaction of light and matter. Presented at increasing levels of complexity, preliminary sections build toward more advanced topics, such as Fourier optics and holography, photonic-crystal optics, guided-wave and fiber optics, LEDs and lasers, acousto-optic and electro-optic devices, nonlinear optical devices, ultrafast optics, optical interconnects and switches, and optical fiber communications. The third edition features an entirely new chapter on the optics of metals and plasmonic devices. Each chapter contains highlighted equations, exercises, problems, summaries, and selected reading lists. Examples of real systems are included to emphasize the concepts governing applications of current interest. Each of the twenty-four chapters of the second edition has been thoroughly updated.

Book Programmable Integrated Photonics

Download or read book Programmable Integrated Photonics written by José Capmany and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2020-02-14 with total page 352 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides the first comprehensive, up-to-date and self-contained introduction to the emergent field of Programmable Integrated Photonics (PIP). It covers both theoretical and practical aspects, ranging from basic technologies and the building of photonic component blocks, to design alternatives and principles of complex programmable photonic circuits, their limiting factors, techniques for characterization and performance monitoring/control, and their salient applications both in the classical as well as in the quantum information fields. The book concentrates and focuses mainly on the distinctive features of programmable photonics, as compared to more traditional ASPIC approaches. After some years during which the Application Specific Photonic Integrated Circuit (ASPIC) paradigm completely dominated the field of integrated optics, there has been an increasing interest in PIP. The rising interest in PIP is justified by the surge in a number of emerging applications that call for true flexibility and reconfigurability, as well as low-cost, compact, and low-power consuming devices. Programmable Integrated Photonics is a new paradigm that aims at designing common integrated optical hardware configurations, which by suitable programming, can implement a variety of functionalities. These in turn can be exploited as basic operations in many application fields. Programmability enables, by means of external control signals, both chip reconfiguration for multifunction operation, as well as chip stabilization against non-ideal operations due to fluctuations in environmental conditions and fabrication errors. Programming also allows for the activation of parts of the chip, which are not essential for the implementation of a given functionality, but can be of help in reducing noise levels through the diversion of undesired reflections.
