Book excerpt: The performance of a resistance-strip magnetic multiplier with a cathode of 3.5 inches by 1 inch for extreme ultraviolet radiation measurements is described. The efficiency of transporting the primary electron from the cathode section into the multiplier section of the instrument was investigated as a function of the distance of a narrow stripe of monochromatic illumination from the entrance edge of the dynode strip. The transport efficiency is shown to depend on both the field distortion at the joint of cathode and dynode strip and the recapture of primary photoelectrons by the cathode itself. (Author).
