Book Photo documentation sic in the Investigation of Child Abuse

Download or read book Photo documentation sic in the Investigation of Child Abuse written by and published by . This book was released on 1996 with total page 22 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This guide provides pointers on the selection and use of camera equipment, film, and photographic techniques that are most appropriate for use in cases of suspected child abuse. Photographs that document a victim's injuries often provide key evidence in child abuse cases and convictions. To ensure effective photodocumentation, it is important to use the most appropriate camera equipment and film and to identify and investigate the child victim. Critical to all investigations of child abuse is the method of photographing injuries such as pressure injuries, bite marks, bruises, burns, facial injuries, amputations, neglect, and sexual abuse injuries. Accurate courtroom evidence can be hindered by ineffective camera equipment and film, insufficient methods of photographing the victim or the victim's injuries, misinformation regarding the photographs of the case, and mislabeling of child abuse information, including photographs. This booklet has sections on camera equipment, film, ultraviolet photography, the photographing of injuries, photodocumentation as court evidence, and photography tips. 16 supplemental readings and a list of 15 organizational resources.

Book Cutaneous Manifestations of Child Abuse and Their Differential Diagnosis

This book was released on 2012-08-30 with total page 277 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The interpretation of skin lesions in children that may be due to abuse is often not straightforward, and many reports have been published on dermatological disorders and accidental injuries that were unjustly regarded as signs of child abuse. This book describes in detail the cutaneous manifestations of the physical abuse of children and devotes particular attention to differential diagnosis. Careful guidance is provided on the optimal evaluation of children presenting with findings potentially attributable to abuse. The numerous images and detailed background information will develop the ability of the reader to assess and interpret the clinical signs of abuse, and to distinguish these signs from other causes of injury, such as accidents and self-mutilation, and dermatological disorders. "Cutaneous Manifestations of Child Abuse" will be invaluable for pediatric dermatologists, pediatricians, forensic experts, and others who deal with the physical abuse of children.

Book Child Abuse and its Mimics in Skin and Bone

Download or read book Child Abuse and its Mimics in Skin and Bone written by B. G. Brogdon and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2012-09-20 with total page 218 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Of all children reported to child protective services for suspected maltreatment in any form, the percentage of substantiated cases of actual physical abuse is quite small. There are a number of dermatological or radiologically demonstrable musculoskeletal lesions that have been, or could be mistaken for, intentional physical abuse by the inexperienced or untrained observer. Child Abuse and Its Mimics in Skin and Bone illustrates the classic manifestations of physical abuse by dermatological and radiological examination as a standard against which the mimickers of physical abuse can be compared. Beginning with a historical perspective on child abuse, the book explores manifestations of superficial and musculoskeletal trauma in children. It examines conditions often mistaken for child abuse, ranging from rubella to leukemia and bowing deformities to vitamin A intoxication, as well as a plethora of dermatological conditions that can mimic signs of physical abuse. Designed for a broad spectrum of individuals who may first encounter a possibly abused child, the book presents hundreds of photos—many in color—and examples collected by the authors over their years of experience in their respective fields. Where appropriate, the authors provide pertinent historical, physical, and laboratory information in support of the diagnosis. With the combined insight of top experts in forensic radiology and dermatology, this volume enables clinicians and others confronted with cases involving these conditions to avoid a rush to judgment that could wreak havoc in a family and quite possibly delay needed treatment for an actual medical condition.
