Dave has fervently sought redemption from God, but his troubles are far from over. His wife, Madeline, vows never to forgive him for selfishly destroying their family. Constant images of betrayal shove Madeline into divorce court, where the division of property ignites a nasty battle over the controlling interest in DMI, the multi-million dollar family business. She wants more than Dave can give and refuses to settle for less than thirteen years of marriage warrants. Madeline is determined not to lose again. Although the marriage is over, their professional bond can't be broken. She ends up with a seat on the board of directors and an executive office down the hall from Dave. Once the dust settles and the divorce is finalized, Dave accepts the consequences of his decision as irrevocable. His family is gone, but he remains certain that God has a plan for him and DMI. He's prepared to move on, but Madeline is enraged by Dave's persistent sense of peace and his ongoing connection with Sherry, the woman who ruined their lives. Madeline becomes unhinged, tormented by her pain, and obsessed with righting a terrible wrong. In the midst of all this chaos, Dave and Madeline's children are suffering. When an unspeakable tragedy occurs, they're forced to look at their individual contributions to this web of drama. Unless the Mitchell family learns the true meaning of unconditional love, the power of forgiveness, and God's amazing grace, they could be stuck on this tragic path for years to come.

Download or read book Befriend and Betray written by Alex Caine and published by Macmillan. This book was released on 2009-02-17 with total page 304 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Hells Angels. The Bandidos. Asian triads. Russian mobsters and corrupt cops. Even the KKK. Just part of a day's work for Alex Caine, an undercover agent who has seen it all. Alex Caine started life as a working-class boy who always thought he'd end up in a blue-collar job. But after a tour in Vietnam and a stretch in prison on marijuana-possession charges, he fell into the cloak-and-dagger world of a contracted agent or "kite": infiltrating criminal groups that cops across North America and around the globe were unable to penetrate themselves. Thanks to his quick-wittedness and his tough but unthreatening demeanor, Caine could fit into whatever unsavory situation he found himself. Over twenty-five years, his assignments ran the gamut from bad-ass bikers to triad toughs. When a job was over, he'd slip away to a new part of the continent or world, where he would assume a new identity and then go back to work on another group of bad guys. Told with page-turning immediacy, Befriend and Betray gives a candid look behind the scenes at some familiar police operations and blows the lid off others that law enforcement would much prefer to keep hidden. And it offers an unvarnished account of the toll such a life takes, one that often left Caine to wonder who he really was, behind those decades of assumed identities. Or whether justice was ever truly served.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The fierce battle over identity and patriotism within Cherokee culture that took place in the years surrounding the Trail of Tears Though the tragedy of the Trail of Tears is widely recognized today, the pervasive effects of the tribe's uprooting have never been examined in detail. Despite the Cherokees' efforts to assimilate with the dominant white culture—running their own newspaper, ratifying a constitution based on that of the United States—they were never able to integrate fully with white men in the New World. In An American Betrayal, Daniel Blake Smith's vivid prose brings to life a host of memorable characters: the veteran Indian-fighter Andrew Jackson, who adopted a young Indian boy into his home; Chief John Ross, only one-eighth Cherokee, who commanded the loyalty of most Cherokees because of his relentless effort to remain on their native soil; most dramatically, the dissenters in Cherokee country—especially Elias Boudinot and John Ridge, gifted young men who were educated in a New England academy but whose marriages to local white girls erupted in racial epithets, effigy burnings, and the closing of the school. Smith, an award-winning historian, offers an eye-opening view of why neither assimilation nor Cherokee independence could succeed in Jacksonian America.

Book excerpt: Wendy woke up on the helicopter as it flew through the night in blackness. No lights could be seen and the blades were muffled so that it could fly over someone on the ground a thousand feet below and no sound would be heard by the man on the ground. Something was pressed hard against her left buttock, but Wendy stayed quiet until she knew where she was. She could hear the faint noise of the helicopter and make out the green screen at the front of the helicopter. She soon realized the thing pressing sharply into her buttock was the end of the mounted machinegun's bullets belt. Wendy tried to inch away, but when she did she felt the butt of a rifle smash down on the middle of her right hand almost causing her to pass out from pain. "You move again, and I'll break every finger on your right hand, Wabba." The soldier spat out the name Wabba as if it were a foul word he had to get out of his mouth in a hurry. Wendy never moved for the next hour as she listened to the talk among the soldiers. Getting up the courage she finally spoke to no one in particular. "Where are you taking me?" He didn't break every finger, but she thought he had when the rifle butt again smashed into her hand. This time she did pass out for a few seconds. When she came to, she heard one soldier laughing and saying something about her not lasting too long with old slice and dice. A sliver of pain and fear crawled down her spine at the mention of a name she knew all too well from years of living among the people and hearing the stories of him and Rasafeh Prison.

Book Blood Sand and Betrayal

Download or read book Blood Sand and Betrayal written by Jose Benavides and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2007-12 with total page 182 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Intriguing Book of Poetry Published by a Brain Injury Survivor Gray Matters, Brain Injury: The Inside Perspective is a book filled with poetic insights of a woman who lived through a near-fatal brain injury. Her intimate knowledge and sense of humor can help survivors cope, as well as better understand their injuries and themselves. This book gives a personal sense or Inside Perspective of brain injury, thus enabling readers to better understand brain injury survivors. Brain injury occurs around the world in a variety of circumstances; in sports events, motor-vehicle accidents, terrorist attacks & war (and the list goes on)... According to the International Brain Injury Association, head injury is the leading cause of death and disability worldwide. Thirty percent of the soldiers that have returned from Iraq and are returning from Afghanistan have Traumatic Brain Injuries; more than two percent of the United States' population has sustained a Traumatic Brain Injury. Even with brain injury being so widespread, it is still hard to identify people living with the complications of this “invisible disability.” Ms. Lerner knows that the lack of awareness regarding brain injury makes survivors’ lives quite problematic. Writing Gray Matters was aimed at easing the integration of survivors back into the community. With a creative flair, she informs her readers about brain injury; she strikes a chord by sharing personal changes, loss and challenges, thus giving readers a sense of what it is like to walk in the shoes of a brain injury survivor. The chapters of the book cover topics including: brain injury, the symptoms of injury, rehabilitation, the brain, academic rehab, recreational therapy (including nature & the ocean's healing influence) and brain injury peer support. This book will considerably help brain injury survivors to better understand their injury and themselves, it will also aid them by being better understood by others. Gray Matters has helped family members and friends to better understand their loved ones. This book can also be a great asset to rehab professionals, by giving them a more intimate understanding of the dilemmas of a brain injury; for only when you know what an individual’s problem is, can you treat it. Gray Matters offers an articulate, introspective and sometimes humorous view of what it is like to suffer a near-fatal blow to the head and live with its complications. The author presents a thorough, subjective viewpoint as well as a professional and objective understanding of brain injury. Gray Matters presents a deeper understanding of the inner-workings of the mind and how in many ways, brain injury effects life as we know it.
