Book excerpt: Her devout Catholic family taught her to believe and trust in Divine intervention, but when God did not intervene to save her twenty-four year old detached-at-birth twin sister from leukemia she walks away from her religion and is on the eve of destruction. After meeting Fib whose parents named him after their much-loved mathematician and as a result grew up obsessed with the Divine proportion, she postpones her appointment with death. And when he shows her the correlation between the Fibonacci theory and nature and that in fact Mother Nature is not only kind but also showers us with wonders all beautifully created in Divine proportion just like her face, she casts aside all thoughts of suicide. She regains her faith and a fiery love affair ensues that is thought to last not a day shorter than forever, but when she too is diagnosed with leukemia Fib sets his own appointment with death.

Download or read book Injectable Fillers written by Derek H. Jones and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2019-02-13 with total page 246 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the innovative field of cosmetic dermatology, the range of products and methods available to patients is expanding all the time. Prominent among these are facial fillers, which, when injected into and beneath the skin, help alleviate wrinkles and improve smoothness. However, the many fillers on offer have varying characteristics and effects, and practitioners must be properly trained in order to administer them safely and successfully. Injectable Fillers offers those performing these popular procedures an in-depth and far-reaching survey of current best practices, with a strong emphasis on safety. Covering everything from the science behind facial fillers to their appropriate means of application, the book places each product in context, demonstrating the pros and cons of the expanding range of hyaluronic acids and calcium hydroxylapatite microspheres, and exploring injectable submental fat reduction with sodium deoxycholate. This second edition broadens the scope of discussion to also include chin, mandible, temple, nose, brow, and forehead injections, as well as the use of cannulas as an alternative to needles.
Download or read book Is an Objective Measuring System for Facial Attractiveness Possible written by Mounir Bashour and published by Universal-Publishers. This book was released on 2007-06 with total page 292 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: here exists a need for the creation of an objective system for measuring facial attractiveness and along with it a detailed mathematical analysis and understanding of facial sexual dimorphism. Both the areas of ophthalmic and facial plastic and reconstructive surgery and the areas of facial attractiveness and recognition research in psychology would greatly benefit from achieving these goals. The objective of this work has been to: develop and test a system for measuring facial attractiveness in an objective manner; and analyze orbital and facial sexual dimorphism. A facial overlay system or mask variously called the phi, archetypal, golden, or golden ratio mask has been claimed to be capable of being adapted to create an objective system for measuring facial attractiveness. The central hypothesis of the thesis is that the phi mask can be used to create an objective measurement system for facial attractiveness. Over a period of seven years, we have created a standardized high resolution photographic facial database of 18-30 year old male and female adults, as well as database of linked facial anthropometric and photogrammetric measurement data. We have also designed a system using the phi mask that attempts to measure facial attractiveness objectively, and tested it against our facial database. Finally, we have made a detailed analysis of the measurement data and previous literature with respect to precisely defining sexual dimorphism around the eyes and face. Results support our central hypothesis in that the phi mask in its current form does yield a measure for objective attractiveness that correlates to the current "gold standard" measure of attractiveness - 'truth of consensus'. However, while the mask is capable of explaining a major portion of the variance in facial attractiveness, it is not the final complete answer. Strengths, weaknesses and limitations of the approach and the model used are discussed, and ideas and directions for further research to develop a more accurate system are suggested. The analysis of the orbits and the face for sexual dimorphism yielded a great deal of new data and have lead to an understanding of sexual differences that have practical implications for both surgery and further facial research. Applications of the research include: Preoperative aids for planning plastic and reconstructive surgery, cosmetic surgery, and sex-altering surgery; standards for analyzing the eyes for academic study; standards for quantifying the features of the eyes for use in an identification system; aid in application of cosmetics; aid in understanding the psychological impact of eyes on the judgment of attractiveness; creation of a standardized database of digital high-resolution facial photographs and linked anthropometric and demographic database to be made available to the world community of facial researchers; use of the databases by researchers for face recognition research, facial attractiveness research etc.

Download or read book Made Up written by Martha Laham and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 2020-10-10 with total page 301 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Made Up exposes the multibillion-dollar beauty industry that promotes unrealistic beauty standards through a market basket of advertising tricks, techniques, and technologies. Cosmetics magnate Charles Revson, a founder of Revlon, was quoted as saying, "In the factory, we make cosmetics. In the store, we sell hope." This pioneering entrepreneur, who built an empire on the foundation of nail polish, captured the unvarnished truth about the beauty business in a single metaphor: hope in a jar. Made Up: How the Beauty Industry Manipulates Consumers, Preys on Women’s Insecurities, and Promotes Unattainable Beauty Standards is a thorough examination of innovative, and often controversial, advertising practices used by beauty companies to persuade consumers, mainly women, to buy discretionary goods like cosmetics and scents. These approaches are clearly working: the average American woman will spend around $300,000 on facial products alone during her lifetime. This revealing book traces the evolution of the global beauty industry, discovers what makes beauty consumers tick, explores the persistence and pervasiveness of the feminine beauty ideal, and investigates the myth-making power of beauty advertising. It also examines stereotypical portrayals of women in beauty ads, looks at celebrity beauty endorsements, and dissects the “looks industry.” Made Upuncovers the reality behind an Elysian world of fantasy and romance created by beauty brands that won’t tell women the truth about beauty.

Download or read book Our Light Body written by Mary Rabyor and published by Mary Rabyor. This book was released on 2012-04 with total page 496 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Human beings are now evolving into a new species, popularized as the light body that starts to grow when our vibration is high enough to activate DNA that exists in our genes. The growing force increases the vibration of all objects over time. When the old body design no longer thrives in the increased vibratory field a species wide metamorphosis triggers. That is where we are today. In early 2006, Mary unexpectedly experienced a kundalini awakening after years of doing meditation. After this, she devoted three years full-time to the kundalini transformation and took daily notes. The core of Our Light Body is Mary's journal for the first year of kundalini transformation with notes, poetry, insights, visions and dreams. The book has chapters with the author's insights about the personality, the higher-self, steps of spiritual awakening, dark nights of the soul, DNA activation, kundalini, human metamorphosis and evolution.
