Book Thermal Quantum Field Theory

Download or read book Thermal Quantum Field Theory written by F. C. Khanna and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2009 with total page 482 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This monograph presents recent developments in quantum field theory at finite temperature. By using Lie groups, ideas from thermal theory are considered with concepts of symmetry, allowing for applications not only to quantum field theory but also to transport theory, quantum optics and statistical mechanics. This includes an analysis of geometrical and topological aspects of spatially confined systems with applications to the Casimir effect, superconductivity and phase transitions. Finally, some developments in open systems are also considered. The book provides a unified picture of the fundamental aspects in thermal quantum field theory and their applications, and is important to the field as a result, since it combines several diverse ideas that lead to a better understanding of different areas of physics.

Book Topics in Field Theory and Particle Phenomenology

Download or read book Topics in Field Theory and Particle Phenomenology written by Sichun Sun and published by . This book was released on 2014 with total page 141 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this thesis, I focus on a few different applications of modern quantum field theory. I start with a model beyond the standard model: Little Flavor Theory and its related collider phenomenology. This model combines a flavor theory with Little Higgs theory, to explain the origin of flavor and little hierarchy problem at the same scale. The field theory on intersecting D-brane has a monopole. The theta vacuum interface could support an electron-monopole dyon system. A certain configuration of D-branes is dual to Wilson lines on the field theory side. These are the other special topics in this thesis. I also include a chapter on a finite temperature field theory method to calculate the corrections to the equation of state.

Book Field Theory The Renormalization Group And Critical Phenomena 2nd Edition

Download or read book Field Theory The Renormalization Group And Critical Phenomena 2nd Edition written by Daniel J Amit and published by World Scientific Publishing Company. This book was released on 1984-08-31 with total page 412 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume links field theory methods and concepts from particle physics with those in critical phenomena and statistical mechanics, the development starting from the latter point of view. Rigor and lengthy proofs are trimmed by using the phenomenological framework of graphs, power counting, etc., and field theoretic methods with emphasis on renormalization group techniques. The book introduces quantum field theory to those already grounded in the concepts of statistical mechanics and advanced quantum theory, with sufficient exercises in each chapter for use as a textbook in a one-semester graduate course.

Book Introduction to Gauge Field Theory Revised Edition

Download or read book Introduction to Gauge Field Theory Revised Edition written by D. Bailin and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1993-01-01 with total page 390 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Introduction to Gauge Field Theory provides comprehensive coverage of modern relativistic quantum field theory, emphasizing the details of actual calculations rather than the phenomenology of the applications. Forming a foundation in the subject, the book assumes knowledge of relativistic quantum mechanics, but not of quantum field theory. The book is ideal for graduate students, advanced undergraduates, and researchers in the field of particle physics.

Book Basics of Thermal Field Theory

Download or read book Basics of Thermal Field Theory written by Mikko Laine and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-06-09 with total page 288 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents thermal field theory techniques, which can be applied in both cosmology and the theoretical description of the QCD plasma generated in heavy-ion collision experiments. It focuses on gauge interactions (whether weak or strong), which are essential in both contexts. As well as the many differences in the physics questions posed and in the microscopic forces playing a central role, the authors also explain the similarities and the techniques, such as the resummations, that are needed for developing a formally consistent perturbative expansion. The formalism is developed step by step, starting from quantum mechanics; introducing scalar, fermionic and gauge fields; describing the issues of infrared divergences; resummations and effective field theories; and incorporating systems with finite chemical potentials. With this machinery in place, the important class of real-time (dynamic) observables is treated in some detail. This is followed by an overview of a number of applications, ranging from the study of phase transitions and particle production rate computations, to the concept of transport and damping coefficients that play a ubiquitous role in current developments. The book serves as a self-contained textbook on relativistic thermal field theory for undergraduate and graduate students of theoretical high-energy physics.

Book Perturbative Algebraic Quantum Field Theory

Download or read book Perturbative Algebraic Quantum Field Theory written by Kasia Rejzner and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-03-16 with total page 186 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Perturbative Algebraic Quantum Field Theory (pAQFT), the subject of this book, is a complete and mathematically rigorous treatment of perturbative quantum field theory (pQFT) that doesn’t require the use of divergent quantities and works on a large class of Lorenzian manifolds. We discuss in detail the examples of scalar fields, gauge theories and the effective quantum gravity. pQFT models describe a wide range of physical phenomena and have remarkable agreement with experimental results. Despite this success, the theory suffers from many conceptual problems. pAQFT is a good candidate to solve many, if not all, of these conceptual problems. Chapters 1-3 provide some background in mathematics and physics. Chapter 4 concerns classical theory of the scalar field, which is subsequently quantized in chapters 5 and 6. Chapter 7 covers gauge theory and chapter 8 discusses effective quantum gravity. The book aims to be accessible to researchers and graduate students, who are interested in the mathematical foundations of pQFT.

Book Relativistic Quantum Field Theory Volume 1

Download or read book Relativistic Quantum Field Theory Volume 1 written by Michael Strickland and published by Morgan & Claypool Publishers. This book was released on 2019-11-07 with total page 175 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Volume 1 of this three-part series introduces the fundamental concepts of quantum field theory using the formalism of canonical quantization. This volume is intended for use as a text for an introductory quantum field theory course that can include both particle and condensed matter physics students. Dr. Strickland starts with a brief review of classical field theory and uses this as a jumping off point for the quantization of classical field, thereby promoting them to proper quantum fields. He then presents the formalism for real and complex scalar field theories, fermion field quantization, gauge field quantization, toy models of the nuclear interaction, and finally the full Lagrangian for QED and its renormalization. Part of IOP Series in Nuclear Medicine.

Book Relativistic Quantum Field Theory Volume 3

Download or read book Relativistic Quantum Field Theory Volume 3 written by Michael Strickland and published by Morgan & Claypool Publishers. This book was released on 2019-11-15 with total page 166 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Volume 3 of this three-part series presents more advanced topics and applications of relativistic quantum field theory. The application of quantum chromodynamics to high-energy particle scattering is discussed with concrete examples for how to compute QCD scattering cross sections. Experimental evidence for the existence of quarks and gluons is then presented both within the context of the naive quark model and beyond. Dr Strickland then reviews our current understanding of the weak interaction, the unified electroweak theory, and the Brout-Higgs-Englert mechanism for the generation of gauge boson masses. The last two chapters contain a self-contained introduction to finite temperature quantum field theory with concrete examples focusing on the high-temperature thermodynamics of scalar field theories, QED, and QCD.
