Download or read book Phase equilibrium and volumetric properties of coal derived fluids written by Oklahoma State University. School of Chemical Engineering and published by . This book was released on 1979 with total page 20 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Data have been obtained at 100°C on the volumetric properties of three binary gas systems: hydrogen + methane, hydrogen + carbon dioxide and methane + carbon dioxide. Interaction virial coefficients evaluated from these data are estimated to be precise to ± 0.5 cc/gmol. In the vapor--liquid equilibrium study, the equipment and analytical techniques have been refined and data acquisition has begun. K-values have been measured at 220°F and pressures from 200 to 2,000 psia on the multicomponent system methane, ethane, propane, toulene, 1-methylnaphthalene. Precision of the data is estimated to vary from 2% for methane to 10% for 1-methylnaphthalene.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The long term goal of our efforts is to develop accurate predictive methods for description of equilibrium phase properties for a variety of types of mixtures and operating conditions. The specific objectives of the work specified herein include: (1) development of an experimental facility having the capability to provide data on equilibrium phase compositions (solubilities) and liquid densities, and doing so with greater accuracy and speed than our previous facility, (2) measurement of equilibrium phase properties for systematically-selected mixtures-specifically those containing important solute gases (such as hydrogen, carbon monoxide, methane, ethane, carbonyl sulfide, ammonia) in a series of heavy paraffinic, naphthenic and aromatic solvents (e.g., n-decane, n-eicosane, n-octacosane, n-hexatriacontane, cyclohexane, Decalin, perhydrophenanthrene, perhydropyrene, benzene, naphthalene, phenanthrene, pyrene), (3) testing/development of correlation frameworks for representing the phase behavior of fluids of the type encountered in coal conversion processes, and (4) generalization of parameters in the correlation frameworks to enable accurate predictions for systems of the type studied, permitting predictions to be made for systems and conditions other than those for which experimental data are available.

This book was released on 2005 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Under continued support from DOE, an experimental facility has been established and operated to measure valuable vapor-liquid equilibrium data for systems of interest in the production and processing of coal fluids. To facilitate the development and testing of models for predicting the phase behavior for such systems, we have acquired substantial amounts of data on the equilibrium phase compositions for binary mixtures of heavy hydrocarbon solvents with the supercritical solutes hydrogen, methane, ethane, CO, and CO[sub 2]. During the course of this project, solubility data were obtained on twenty-two binary mixtures of CO, hydrogen, or nitrogen in a series of paraffinic, naphthenic and aromatic solvents (decane, eicosane, octacosane, hexatriacontane, cyclohexane, decalin, benzene, naphthalene, phenanthrene, pyrene). The measurements were conducted at temperatures from 310 to 433 K, pressures to 22 MPa, and solute mole fraction from 0.01 to 0.30. Estimated errors of the measured gas solubilities in the selected solvents are less than 0.001. Specific accomplishments of this project included (a) upgrading our experimental facility to permit highly accurate measurements of equilibrium phase compositions (solubilities) and phase densities; (b) measuring these properties for systematically-selected binary mixtures to provide critically needed input data for correlation development; (c) developing and testing models suitable for describing the phase behavior of coal-fluid mixtures, and the modeling results in generalized, practical formats suitable for use in process engineering calculations.

Book Thermodynamic and Rheological Properties of Solid liquid Systems in Coal Processing

Download or read book Thermodynamic and Rheological Properties of Solid liquid Systems in Coal Processing written by and published by . This book was released on 1995 with total page 4 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The objective of this project is to develop a model for solid-liquid equilibria and a model for viscosities of the products of coal liquefaction processes. The same characterization procedure and representation by continuous distributions as used in previous work on vapor-liquid equilibria and excess enthalpies of coal liquids will be used. Models when fully developed win give the solid-liquid phase equilibrium properties and viscosities as factors of temperature and pressure for known molecular weight distribution and structural characterization of the coal liquid. To accomplish this well, the project requires three tasks: (1) Solid-Liquid phase equilibrium model development; (2) Experimental Viscosity Measurements; and (3) Viscosity Model Development. A model for viscosity computation of coal model compound liquids and coal derived liquids has been developed. Literature review for this work included compilation of a number of data sets, critical investigation of data measurement techniques available in the literature, and investigation of models for liquid and solid phase thermodynamic computations. During the preliminary stages it was discovered that for development of a liquid or solid state equation of state, accurate predictive models for a number of saturation properties, such as, liquid and solid vapor pressures, saturated liquid and solid volumes, heat capacities of liquids and solids at saturation, etc. Most of the remaining time on this task was spent in developing predictive correlations for vapor pressures and saturated liquid volumes of organic liquids in general and coal model liquids in particular.

Book Phase Equilibrium Properties of Coal derived Liquids Technical Progress Report July December 1980

Download or read book Phase Equilibrium Properties of Coal derived Liquids Technical Progress Report July December 1980 written by and published by . This book was released on 1981 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A wide variety of methods have been used to study the phase behavior of mixtures, including: Measuring the phase boundary of binary mixtures, observing property discontinuities from volumetric measurements, and thermal measurements of mixtures, measuring the composition of samples in batch systems, measuring the composition of samples from continuous remixing and separation in recirculating systems, gas-liquid chromatography, and measuring the composition of samples from a once-through flow system. A major difficulty associated with measuring phase behavior of complex mixtures is the need to characterize the vapor and liquid sample products. This generally requires the collection of considerable quantities of the liquid and vapor products. Of all the methods listed, the only method which can generate significant quantities of both liquid and vapor products is the once-through flow method. This method has been used previously in determining the K values for petroleum fractions. For these reasons, we have designed a flow equilibrium flash vaporization system similar to the ones previously used on petroleum liquids.

Book Phase Equilibrium Data for Development of Correlations for Coal Fluids

Download or read book Phase Equilibrium Data for Development of Correlations for Coal Fluids written by and published by . This book was released on 1991 with total page 99 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The overall objective of the authors' work is to develop accurate predictive methods for representations of vapor-liquid equilibria in systems encountered in coal-conversion processes. The objectives pursued in the present project include: (1) Measurements of binary vapor-liquid phase behavior data for selected solute gases (e.g., C2H6, CH4) in a series of paraffinic, naphthenic, and aromatic hydrocarbon solvents to permit evaluations of interaction parameters in models for phase behavior. Solubilities of the gases in the liquid phase have been determined. (2) Evaluation of existing equations of state and other models for representations of phase behavior in systems of the type studied experimentally; development of new correlation frameworks as needed. (3) Generalization of the interaction parameters for the solutes studied to a wide spectrum of heavy solvents; presentation of final results in formats useful in the design/optimization of coal liquefaction processes.
