Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Retired fighter pilot Kay Braithwaite spends her days ferrying passengers from one boring location to another on her home planet of Mandel. It's not easy to leave her fighting days in the past when half the passengers can't stop gawking at their hero-turned-bus-driver, but it pays the bills. When an unexpected attack reduces her home planet to ash, Kay is charged with delivering her passengers to safety on a remote space station. Kay just wants to return to the service. Instead, she's trapped on the dilapidated station with a group of strangers – who may just be the attack's only survivors. As they navigate the station's mysteries and confront their pasts, Kay must rally her unlikely allies to uncover the station's hidden dangers and secure their future. Phantom Station (A Mission Log Story) is an adult science fiction tale, perfect for fans who love: The mysteries and group dynamics of Lost; the retired heroes thrust back into service in Old Man's War; the cozy, character-exploring emphasis of the Long Way to a Small Angry Planet; and the close-knit crew dynamics of Firefly.

Download or read book Listening In written by Mary Vipond and published by McGill-Queen's Press - MQUP. This book was released on 1992-09-28 with total page 399 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mary Vipond's approach is based on the idea that the development of radio broadcasting was a process that involved equipment manufacturers, broadcasters, and "audiences/customers." She charts the expansion of these three groups, surveys the development of advertising and networking as methods of financing, and analyses the evolution of programming. From 1922 to 1932, radio administration was the responsibility of the Radio Branch of the federal Department of Marine and Fisheries. Vipond discusses the regulatory policies of the branch. She completes her study with an analysis of the period from the formation of the Aird Royal Commission on Radio Broadcasting in 1928 to the passage of the Radio Broadcasting Act of 1932. Between 1922 and 1932, virtually all Canadian broadcasting was in the private sector. The campaign in the early 1930s to institute a broadcasting system oriented more toward public service and the promotion of a national identity was partially successful. Vipond reveals, however, that the act that in 1932 set up the Canadian Radio Broadcasting Commission, now the CBC, was much weaker than has generally been recognized. She argues that this weakness was a consequence of the fact that, over the course of the 1920s, broadcasters, listeners, and politicians alike had built up certain expectations of radio which could not easily be disregarded.
Download or read book Integrated Aircraft Navigation written by James Farrell and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 368 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Integrated Aircraft Navigation discusses the fundamentals of navigation systems analysis. Modern aircraft navigation systems are characterized by a multifaceted, computer-oriented approach, covering various branches of theoretical dynamics, inertial measurements, radar, radio navaids, celestial observations, and widely used statistical estimation techniques. Each pertinent field entails much technological development that is not essential for applied systems analysis. The book presents pertinent information extracted from a broad range of topics, expressed in terms of Newtonian physics and matrix-vector mathematics. The book begins by defining basic navigation quantities and functions, and introducing various subjects as an aid to subsequent developments. These include basic motion patterns, navigation coordinate frames, and navigation techniques and requirements. This is followed by separate chapters on coordinate transformations and kinematics; inertial navigation theory; the physics of inertial measurements; and navigation with multiple sensors. Subsequent chapters deal with dynamic equations for all navigation modes considered; functional relationships and practical considerations for the various navigation aid sensors in common usage; and system applications. This book will be useful to the student or practicing engineer who wants a valid analytical characterization, using the simplest theoretical concepts permissible, while omitting specialized mechanization details.
