Book The Virtual Sand Table

Download or read book The Virtual Sand Table written by and published by . This book was released on 2001 with total page 32 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "This report examines the application of an intelligent tutoring system (ITS) for use in training a complex skill during the Field Artillery Captains Career Course. Based on a technology transfer agreement between the U.S. Army Training and Doctrine Command and the U.S. Army Research institute for the Behavioral and Social Sciences, an ITS originally developed for the Navy was adapted for use in a sand table exercise. The exercise required students to deploy multiple launch rocket system assets during a reconnaissance and selection of position task. The task was conventionally taught using miniature replications of vehicles and launchers on a large table of sand. An ITS version of the exercise, called the Virtual Sand Table, replicated the training with the added advantage of informative feedback and computer-based coaching during the exercise. A comparison group (n=209) used the conventional sand table and the treatment group (n=105) used the Virtual Sand Table during a four-hour training exercise. Results, as measured by a hands-on performance test, indicated superior performance by the Virtual Sand Table treatment group, with an effect size of just over one standard deviation."--Stinet.

  • Publisher : Academic Press
  • Release : 2014-06-28
  • ISBN : 148327215X
  • Pages : 385 pages

Download or read book Map Data Processing written by Herbert Freeman and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2014-06-28 with total page 385 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Map Data Processing is a collection of papers from a NATO study on the same subject. This collection deals with the exchange of ideas and setting directions in research, particularly in pattern-recognition-, image-processing-, and computer-related issues. The papers discuss the usefulness of computer systems in geographical data processing, as well as the viability of scan digitization resulting from improvements in line thinning and vectorization. Automated spatial data integration can also be helpful in analyzing spatial data, data collection, capture methods, and data characteristics. Another paper addresses the application of the 8-point chain-encoded lineal map data to define more accurate algorithms found in many geographical and medical imagery. One paper considers how the same data used in monochromatic images can be realized for full colored, textured, realist terrain scenes. This book can be a valuable reference for workers involved in areas of geography, computer imaging, cartography, computer graphics, and remote sensing.

Book Echnology Assessment in Software Applications

Download or read book Echnology Assessment in Software Applications written by Harold F. O'Neil, Jr. and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-11-05 with total page 333 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume offers an expansion of ideas presented at a recent conference convened to identify the major strategies and more promising practices for assessing technology. The authors -- representing government, business, and university sectors -- helped to set the boundaries of present technology assessment by offering perspectives from computer science, cognitive and military psychology, and education. Their work explores both the use of techniques to assess technology and the use of technology to facilitate the assessment process. The book's main purpose is to portray the state of the art in technology assessment and to provide conceptual options to help readers understand the power of technology. Technological innovation will continue to develop its own standards of practice and effectiveness. To the extent that these practices are empirically based, designers, supporters, and consumers will be given better information for their decisions.

Book Flight Simulation

Download or read book Flight Simulation written by J. M. Rolfe and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 1988-05-12 with total page 304 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Although the complexity and capability of flight simulators have matched the growth of aerospace technology, there has until now been no textbook dealing specifically with the design and construction of flight simulators. This is a primary purpose of Flight Simulation. Written in collaboration with a number of internationally known specialists, the book considers the subject in three sections. Firstly it introduces the concept of simulation in order to identify the essential elements which make up the modern flight simulator. The development of these elements is also traced through the historical evolution of flight simulation. The main section of the book commences with an exposition of the mathematical models into dynamic physical devices capable of representing the response of a specific aircraft and its systems. The simulation of the flight environment is also covered in relation to cockpit motion systems and methods of representing the external visual scene. Another important aspect of simulation, the design of instructor and operating stations, is given separate attention. The final section considers the application of flight simulation to research and training and concludes with an appraisal of future prospects and developments.
