Book The Way of the Cross for the Holy Souls in Purgatory

Download or read book The Way of the Cross for the Holy Souls in Purgatory written by Susan Tassone and published by Our Sunday Visitor. This book was released on 2005-03-03 with total page 64 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Recall, reflect, remember, and pray. Recall loved ones who have died and, in a spirit of true charity, keep in mind other departed souls who may have no one on earth to pray for them. Reflect on the reality of purgatory and those who, though so close to heaven, must still prepare to enter it. These souls, the Church teaches, can benefit from your prayers for them and whose prayers, in return, can benefit you. Remember, Station by Station, the Passion and death that Christ endured for those souls, for all souls, for your soul. Pray that the same Christ, the One who conquered death, may soon welcome into the Eternal Banquet the souls of your loved ones, and the souls of all the faithful departed. With its one-of-a-kind combination of the traditional prayers of the Stations of the Cross and scriptural reflections focusing on Christ's passion and death, The Way of the Cross for the Holy Souls in Purgatory was an immediate best-seller when first published in 2000. The revised edition is expanded and features beautiful, four-color mosaics from Marytown, home of the National Shrine of St. Maximilian Kolbe.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: So what is the point of intercession, anyway? Author Tricia Rhodes defines intercession in vivid terms-"to stand in the gap between God and needy people, our hearts bonded to theirs as we plead their case in prayer, regardless of what they have done or haven't done to deserve God's intervention." Moses did it and saved the Israelites from God's wrath. Stephen interceded for those who stoned him. Paul prayed for countless Christians and non-believers alike. And we see intercession most extravagantly displayed through Jesus Christ, who walked the earth a friend of sinners. Tricia declares, "We are never more like Christ than when we connect with others in their pain or their sin and choose to bear their burdens in prayer. Intercession is simple, yet profound." Offering easy-to-grasp tools and truths, Intimate Intercession will show the reader how to know and to pray God's heart. Each chapter is divided into segments that provide a biblical basis, inspirational thoughts, and personal devotional exercises that will engage the reader both in connecting with God and experiencing intimacy with Him.

Excerpt: ... tice was unsheathed against the man who is Jehovah's fellow, and returned not to its scabbard till it had been bathed in the blood of Calvary. It may be deemed at variance with this view of the subject, that the redemption of man is sometimes in scripture ascribed simply to the blood of Christ, or to his death alone. But such language is not to be understood as limiting the atonement of Christ to the simple act of dying, or to those sufferings in which there was an effusion of literal blood. The bloody agony of the garden, and the accursed death of the cross were prominent and concluding parts of his sufferings, and, by a common figure, were fit representatives of the whole. They were the last portions, so to speak, the completion of his humiliation, without which all that went before must have been vain; and may be regarded as having procured salvation, in the same way as the last instalment of a sum which is paid by degrees, may be supposed to cancel the debt and procure a discharge. But, as when Christ is said to have been ' obedient unto death, ' we are to understand the phrase, not of a single act, but of the duration of his obedience throughout the whole period of his life, so may it be said that he suffered unto death, as expressive of the duration of his suffering throughout the whole of his earthly course. III. Yet is it not intended by these remarks to deny that a special importance attaches to the sufferings of ChrisVs soul, and of the concluding period of his life. It is impossible to peruse the scriptures attentively and not perceive that a special emphasis is put upon these. We are not to confine the matter of atonement to any one kind or degree of suffering; but as little are we at liberty to overlook the speciality that...
