Book Performance of a Fast Frequency hopped Noncoherent MFSK Receiver Over Rician Fading Channels with Either Partial band Interference Or Multi tone Interference

Download or read book Performance of a Fast Frequency hopped Noncoherent MFSK Receiver Over Rician Fading Channels with Either Partial band Interference Or Multi tone Interference written by Joseph Francis Sheltry and published by . This book was released on 1994 with total page 95 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An error probability analysis is performed for a conventional noncoherent M-ary orthogonal frequency-shift keying (MFSK) receiver employing fast frequency-hopped (FFH) spread spectrum waveforms transmitted over a frequency-nonselective, slowly fading Ricean channel with partial-band noise interference. Each diversity reception is assumed to fade independently. The partial-band interference is modeled as a Gaussian process. The effects of wideband thermal noise are also included. The energy per hop is held constant; thus, as diversity increases, energy per symbol increases. Previous analyses considered only constant energy per symbol systems, however, practical military systems are likely to employ fixed hop rates. There is some performance enhancement to be obtained from implementing diversity in a conventional FFH/MFSK system with fixed hop rates, but partial band interference still results in significant degradation. Additionally, the performance of this FFH receiver is investigated over the same channel in the presence of partial-band tone jamming without diversity for the case of binary frequency-shift keying (BFSK) when both the signal and the jammer can fade independently. Performance when only a single jamming tone per hop slot is allowed is compared to that obtained when two jamming tones per hop slot are possible. When the jamming signal experiences Rayleigh fading there is very little degradation of the jammer's effectiveness as compared to when the jamming signal is not affected by fading.

Book Performance Analysis of Frequency Hopping MFSK M ary Frequency Shift Keying Systems Employing Forward Error Control Coding in the Presence of Hostile Interference

Download or read book Performance Analysis of Frequency Hopping MFSK M ary Frequency Shift Keying Systems Employing Forward Error Control Coding in the Presence of Hostile Interference written by Jhong S. Lee and published by . This book was released on 1987 with total page 191 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Error probability analyses are performed for a coded M-ary frequency-shift-keying (MFSK) system employing L hops per M-ary word frequency-hopping (FH) spread spectrum waveforms transmitted over a partial-band Gaussian noise jamming channel. The information bit error probabilities are obtained for a square-law linear combining demodulator and for a square-law adaptive gain control (AGC) demodulator, both with forward error control (FEC) coding under conditions of worst-case partial-band noise jamming, using exact analyses of the demodulator performance which include both thermal noise and jamming noise. Parametric performance curves are obtained for both block codes and convolutional codes with both binary and M-ary channel modulations. The results show that thermal noise can not be neglected in the analyses if correct determinations of the optimum order of diversity and the worst-case jamming fraction are to be obtained over the whole range of signal-to-thermal noise and signal-to-jamming ratios. It is shown that the combination of non-linear combining, M-ary modulation, and forward error control coding is an effective strategy against worst-case partial-band noise jamming. However, just as was found to be the case for uncoded systems, the linear combiner is ineffective in worst-case partial-band noise jamming. (Author).

Book Hybrid Frequency phase Modulation

Download or read book Hybrid Frequency phase Modulation written by Ibrahim Ghareeb and published by . This book was released on 1995 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This thesis studies the performance of joint frequency-phase modulation (JFPM) communication systems, it considers its spread spectrum as well as narrow band applications. JFPM signal has been mathematically modeled. Its power spectral density and bandwidth efficiency have been analyzed. A bit error rate performance of JFPM signals in AWGN as well as in Rayleigh fading channels is obtained. Assuming statistical independence of the diversity channels, we have analyzed the diversity combining reception of JFPM over Rayleigh fading channels. These analytical results show that, JFPM signals are characterized by relative simplicity in obtaining large set of waveforms, and thus by varying its parameters it can be suitable for either bandwidth-limited or power-limited applications. Compared to M-ary FSK signals that use the same number of tones, the needed minimum frequency separation between two adjacent tones for JFPM signals to satisfy the orthogonality condition is reduced. A spread spectrum system referred to as frequency hopped/joint frequency-phase modulation (FH/JFPM) has also been presented. The system model is described for both slow frequency hopping (SFH/JFPM) and fast frequency hopping (FFH/JFPM). Bit error rate performance for SFH/JFPM in the presence of broadband and partial-band noise jamming is analyzed, and the worst case jamming performance of this system is evaluated. It is shown that SFH/JFPM is less sensitive to broadband and partial-band noise jamming than the conventional frequency hopped systems. The design and analysis of the FFH/JFPM system over Rayleigh fading channels is presented. An expression for the probability of a bit error is obtained. Results have shown that the FFH/JFPM outperforms the conventional frequency hopped systems. A detailed analysis for the probability density function of the received signal phase in the presence of multitone jamming is provided. The probability density function is derived for any arbitrary transmitted signal phase. Based on this analysis, the probability of error for the FH/M-ary DPSK system in the presence of multitone jamming is obtained. The performance of coherent frequency hopped M-ary PSK system in multitone jamming environments has also been presented. Bit error rate performance of this system is analyzed. A simple expression for the probability of a bit error is obtained. The performance of this system in worst case jamming is also given.

Book Principles of Mobile Communication

Download or read book Principles of Mobile Communication written by Gordon L. Stüber and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-09 with total page 670 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Principles of Mobile Communication provides an authoritative treatment of the fundamentals of mobile communications, one of the fastest growing areas of the modern telecommunications industry. The book stresses the fundamentals of mobile communications engineering that are important for the design of any mobile system. Less emphasis is placed on the description of existing and proposed wireless standards. This focus on fundamental issues should be of benefit not only to students taking formal instruction but also to practising engineers who are likely to already have a detailed familiarity with the standards and are seeking to deepen their knowledge of this important field. The book stresses mathematical modeling and analysis, rather than providing a qualitative overview. It has been specifically developed as a textbook for graduate level instruction and a reference book for practising engineers and those seeking to pursue research in the area. The book contains sufficient background material for the novice, yet enough advanced material for a sequence of graduate level courses. Principles of Mobile Communication treats a variety of contemporary issues, many of which have been treated before only in the journals. Some material in the book has never appeared before in the literature. The book provides an up-to-date treatment of the subject area at a level of detail that is not available in other books. Also, the book is unique in that the whole range of topics covered is not presently available in any other book. Throughout the book, detailed derivations are provided and extensive references to the literature are made. This is of value to the reader wishing to gain detailed knowledge of a particular topic.
