This book was released on 1996 with total page 194 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "This thesis presents a simulation study of Multistage Interconnection Networks operating under various conditions of size, data-transfer methodology, buffering, and traffic distribution. These and other simulation results may be used to determine the effectiveness of Multistage Interconnection Networks in a variety of computer and communications applications. They may also be used to validate analysis and modeling equations and values."--Abstract, p. [iii].

Book excerpt: Abstract: "Multistage interconnection networks (Banyan networks) are frequently proposed as connections in multiprocessor systems, in ATM switches or in Gigabit Ethernet switches. There exist several analytical models describing the performance of such networks. Using analytical models the performance can be determined much faster than by simulation. On the other hand, the development of an analytical model is very time-consuming. In this paper, we present a method for an automatic and fast generation of an analytical network model. The generated analysis copes with networks of arbitrary size, arbitrary switching element sizes, arbitrary buffer lengths in each network stage, an arbitrary (but uniform) traffic pattern including multicast traffic, and an arbitrarily chosen network load."

Book excerpt: In the existing research literature a large number of regular MINs with their performance characteristics are available. However, there is relatively smaller number of irregular MINs. The present research work is an endeavour to study the importance and design of fault-tolerant MINs. It is with the use of various techniques based on high degree of parallelism, self-routing and modularity that three new dynamic irregular MINs have been proposed in order to improve their fault-tolerance, performance and reliability. The irregular networks have been considered because of their advantage of the shorter path length in comparison to their regular counterparts. The irregular dynamic MIN supports many redundant paths in the event of faults in order to dynamically reroute the data through a fault-free path and passes most of the permutations even under faults while improving the Mean-time to failure (MTTF).

This book was released on 1992 with total page 40 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Abstract: "This paper concerns the analysis of the Split-buffered Multistage Interconnection Networks (SMINs) under the favorite input load. The favorite load is a typical nonuniform traffic pattern which includes the uniform load as its special case. A new analytical model of SMINs under the favorite load is developed. The analytical results are validated through simulations. It is shown that the SMINs generally perform better under the favorite load than the SMINs under the uniform load. The analytical model itself also shows potential for evaluating other high performance switch designs."
