Book excerpt: How am I meant to feel as a Christian? You can go to an evangelical church on a Sunday and be told: "Christian, you are loved by God, no matter what you've done. God could not love you more than he does." You can go to another evangelical church and be told: "You're a wretched sinner." The emphasis can feel very different, and yet both churches are teaching truth. Holding both truths together in balance can be tricky but it's essential for healthy Christian living. Overemphasizing one at the expense of the other causes all sorts of problems. Perfect Sinners will help us keep the balance, as we distinguish between our "status" before God and our "walk" with him.

Book excerpt: Christians know that God loves them, but can easily feel that he is perpetually disappointed and frustrated, maybe even close to giving up on them. As a result, they focus a lot—and rightly so—on what Jesus has done to appease God’s wrath for sin. But how does Jesus Christ actually feel about his people amid all their sins and failures? This book draws us to Matthew 11, where Jesus describes himself as “gentle and lowly in heart,” longing for his people to find rest in him. The gospel flows from God’s deepest heart for his people, a heart of tender love for the sinful and suffering. These chapters take readers into the depths of Christ’s very heart for sinners, diving deep into Bible passages that speak of who Christ is and encouraging readers with the affections of Christ for his people. His longing heart for sinners comforts and sustains readers in their up-and-down lives.

Book Sinner s Creed

Download or read book Sinner s Creed written by Scott Stapp and published by Tyndale House Publishers, Inc.. This book was released on 2012-10-02 with total page 314 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sinner’s Creed is the uncensored memoir of Scott Stapp, Grammy Award–winning leader of the multiplatinum rock band CREED. During CREED’s decade of dominance and in the years following the band’s breakup, Scott struggled with drugs and alcohol, which led not only to a divorce, but also to a much-publicized suicide attempt in 2006. Now clean, sober, and in the midst of a highly successful solo career, Scott has finally come full circle—a turnaround he credits to his renewed faith in God. In Sinner's Creed, Scott shares his story for the first time—from his fundamentalist upbringing, the rise and fall of CREED, and his ongoing battle with addiction, the rediscovery of his faith, and the launch of his solo career. The result is a gripping memoir that is proof positive that God is always present in our lives, despite the colossal mess we sometimes make of them.

Download or read book Are Christians Sinners written by Anthony Guida and published by Christian Faith Publishing, Inc.. This book was released on 2018-06-05 with total page 79 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One of my greatest challenges as Senior Pastor and Church leader was figuring out how to get people to think for themselves. Rather than sitting in the pews dutifully waiting for me to tell them what they should think, I longed for congregations that would dive into God's word on their own to feast on His word. What you hold in your hands is a meticulous, well thought invitation to take your seat at the banquet table to eat a serving of "meat" that is so large it might test your ability to digest it all in one read. Are Christians Sinners? will not tell you what to think, but might challenge everything you do think about sin, your identity, and what God really thinks about you. Warning, this book could be dangerous to anyone who wants to remain a defeated, pitiful victim stuck at the foot of the cross, hoping God doesn't give them what they feel they deserve. -Dr. Louis Angone Founding Pastor, New Community Christian Church Cofounder and Cochairman, AKD Enterprises _____________________________________________________________________________________________ There has only ever been one way to obtain the miraculously transformed life in Christ that we hope for, and that is through our faith in God. Are Christians Sinners? will take everything that you thought you understood about sin and your identity in Christ and completely turn it upside down. Prepare to see the path to freedom that is so direct you will wonder why you never learned this before. Prepare to read revelations from God that will astound you and instantly draw you closer to Him. Prepare to truly understand that, through our faith, we are more than conquerors in Christ Jesus and that we truly have the power living within us to conquer sin once and for all.

Book Are Christians Just Saved Sinners

Download or read book Are Christians Just Saved Sinners written by Ron Craig and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2012-08 with total page 360 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Although my first four books deal with various controversial issues in the church today, the substance of this book strikes at the very heart of some central doctrines held dear by many modern believers. Just because certain beliefs have survived for centuries in church dogma and theological textbooks, that is no guarantee that such doctrines are biblical. I appealed to more than 900 different Scripture passages in this work to both expose those doctrinal errors, and to reveal the truth regarding some essential biblical realities. I do hope the reader will set aside all religious prejudices and honestly consider this straightforward presentation of what God actually says about such matters.

Book Sinners in the Presence of a Loving God

Download or read book Sinners in the Presence of a Loving God written by R. Zachary Manis and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2019-06-03 with total page 432 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Why would a perfectly good and loving God consign anyone to eternal suffering in hell? In Sinners in the Presence of a Loving God, R. Zachary Manis examines in detail the various facets of the problem of hell, considers the reasons why the usual responses to the problem are unsatisfying, and suggests how an adequate solution to the problem can be constructed. Historically, there are four standard explanations of the nature and purpose of hell: traditionalism, annihilationism, the choice model, and universalism. In Manis's assessment, all are deficient in some crucial respect. The alternative view that he develops and defends, the divine presence model, stands within the tradition that understands hell to be a state of eternal conscious suffering, but, Manis contends, avoids the worst problems of its competitors. The key idea is that the suffering of hell is not the result of a divine act that aims to inflict it, but rather is the way in which a sinful creature necessarily experiences the unmitigated presence of a holy God. Heaven and hell are not two "places" to which the saved and damned are consigned, respectively, but rather are two radically different ways in which different persons will experience the same reality of God's omnipresence once the barrier of divine hiddenness is finally removed.

Book excerpt: This stunning debut novel—drawn from the author's own life experience—tells the moving story of a family of eleven in the American Midwest, bound together and torn apart by their faith The Rovaniemis and their nine children belong to a deeply traditional church (no drinking, no dancing, no TV) in modern-day Michigan. A normal family in many ways, the Rovaniemis struggle with sibling rivalry, parental expectations, and forming their own unique identities in such a large family. But when two of the children venture from the faith, the family fragments and a haunting question emerges: Do we believe for ourselves, or for each other? Each chapter is told from the distinctive point of view of a different Rovaniemi, drawing a nuanced, kaleidoscopic portrait of this unconventional family. The children who reject the church learn that freedom comes at the almost unbearable price of their close family ties, and those who stay struggle daily with the challenges of resisting the temptations of modern culture. With precision and potent detail, We Sinners follows each character on their journey of doubt, self-knowledge, acceptance, and, ultimately, survival.

This book will help you to pause and marvel at Jesus, whose now-glorified wounds are a sign of his unfailing love and the decisive victory that he has won: “He was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed.” (Isaiah 53:5) This book can be used as a devotional. The chapters on Holy Week make it especially helpful during the Lent season and at Easter.

Book excerpt: Some say roll with the punches. Drift with the tide. Nothing can stop the inevitability of change. There was a time when 300 Spartans disagreed with such mindless thinking and stood in the gap. Now it's time for 3,000 to stand in the gap. Sinner is the story of Marsuvees Black, a force of raw evil who speaks with wicked persuasion that is far more destructive than swords or guns. Beware all who stand in his way. It's also the story of Billy Rediger and Darcy Lange, two unsuspecting survivors of a research project gone bad, who discover that they are perhaps the two most powerful souls in the land. Listen to them or pay a terrible price. And it's the story of Johnny Drake, the one who comes out of the desert and leads the 3,000. Follow him and die. Sinner tells the story of a free land where people who worship as they please and say what they believe are suddenly silenced in the name of tolerance. Most will roll with the punches. Most will drift with the tide. But not all. Not the 3,000.
