Book Percutaneous Transluminal Angioscopy

Download or read book Percutaneous Transluminal Angioscopy written by Andreas Beck and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 187 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Percutaneous transluminal angioscopy is opening up exciting possibilities for the interventional radiologist, since it can picture vascular features with an accuracy and clarity that previously has not been possible. Dr. Beck paves the way for the use of this new tool in clinical diagnosis; he details the technical prerequisites, gives step-by-step instructions for applying the technique and discusses how to interprete the resulting images. The amazing results of percutaneous angioscopy are compared with the results of conventional angioscopy. This approach introduces the new and unknown in perspective with the tried and trusted of the past. Major advantages become obvious: unclear or uncertain angiographical findings can be cleared up, interventional procedures can be supported, and the effects of interventional radiology can be seen before and after vascular treatment. The author's unique insight and systematic approach to the vascular system make this atlas a truly pioneering work.

Book Percutaneous Transluminal Angioplasty

Download or read book Percutaneous Transluminal Angioplasty written by C.T. Dotter and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 458 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the past ten years, there have been significant advances in the diagnosis and therapy of arterial vascular disease. While long-term morbidity can only be improved by changing the patient's life-style and removing any risk factors that may be present(hypertension, hyperlipidemia, obesity, diabetesmellitus, nicotine abuse), symptomatic relief may be obtained by various procedures. Besides conservative treatment of arterial occlusive disease (physical therapy, medical treatment) and surgical vascular interventions (thromboendarterectomy, bypass procedures), balloon catheters introduced percutaneously under local anesthesia have found increased application in virtually all areas for the dilatation and recanalization of obstructive lesions in the past few years. The technique of balloon dilatation, as introduced by Griintzig as a further development of the percutaneous interventions by Dotter and Judkins, is no longer the decisive issue. The main objective of present clinical research is to de termine the proper indications and patient selection for this procedure, which has found its place between conservative treatment and surgery. The contents of this Symposium should provide some guidelines for the indi cations and postprocedural therapy for the referring physician, the angiologist, and for the radiologist and cardiologist performing the dilatation. We owe our thanks to all the specialists involved, who have provided us with the benefits of their experience. Mrs. H. Beilmann and Dr. M. Wojtowycz con tributed substantially to the preparation of the text. I would like to thank them and the staff of Springer-Verlag for their conscientious work in the interest of composition and publication quality.

Book Transluminal Coronary Angioplasty and Intracoronary Thrombolysis

Download or read book Transluminal Coronary Angioplasty and Intracoronary Thrombolysis written by M. Kaltenbach and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 447 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume contains the proceedings of the Fourth International Symposium on Coronary Heart Disease, held in Frankfurt/Federal Republic of Germany. In 1970, when the fIrst symposium was held, the whole range of diagnostic and therapeutic measures was covered, but since then interest in coronary heart disease has increased so considerably that the fourth symposium was restricted to only two therapeutic aspects, angioplasty and intracoronary thrombolysis. It can be noted with pleasure that European cardiologists, namely Andreas Griintzig and Peter Rentrop, have made essential contributions to the applicability of these modes of treatment. When angioplasty was fIrst discussed at the Third International Symposium (Coronary Heart Disease, Stuttgart, 1978) a great deal of astonishment was expressed. Today the procedure has gained an important place in the treatment of angina pecto ris. The proportion of candidates for coronary surgery in whom angioplasty can be attempted instead of operation is around 10%, in certain subgroups even higher. The most remarkable fmding of our 5-year experience with angioplasty are the extre mely good long-term results. Recurrences happen in about 15%-20% of cases within the fIrst 3 months; after this period of time, recurrences are very unusual and mostly due to progression of the disease at other sites. Angioplasty has thus also contributed to our understanding of the dynamics of the atherosclerotic process.

Book excerpt: This book provides a comprehensive, up-to-date summary of drug-coated balloon (DCB) technology and the role of DCBs in the treatment of coronary and peripheral arterial disease. In addition to clear explanation of how DCBs works, readers will find an enlightening analysis of the mistakes and successes of the past decade and the emergence of the latest delivery systems, which combine a more deliverable device with much improved drug delivery to the vessel wall. The full range of current applications of DCBs are reviewed in detail, drawing on the latest scientific evidence. Due attention is paid to newer devices, with provision of technical insights and documentation of the available clinical data. Ongoing research projects, remaining technical challenges, likely future directions, and reimbursement issues are also carefully considered. This book will be a useful tool for any interventional cardiologist, interventional radiologist, or vascular surgeon who wishes to acquire a deep knowledge of this technology and its application in both coronary and peripheral interventions.

Book Coronary Angioscopy

  • ISBN : 4431555463
  • Pages : 225 pages

Download or read book Coronary Angioscopy written by Kyoichi Mizuno and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-07-03 with total page 225 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents a thorough review of coronary angioscopy, ranging from instructions on its use to the latest advances. Starting with the structure and fundamental principles of angioscopy, it shows readers how to apply the image to comprehensive care of coronary-artery patients. Plentiful color photos and illustrations will enable readers to investigate and classify plaques and thrombi and to evaluate coronary stent- and drug-based therapies. The authors are leading researchers on angioscopy. This book offers the perfect guide not only for new clinicians but also for cardiologists who have already adopted this technique for medical examination and treatment. Angioscopy is a unique medical technique for visualizing the interior of blood vessels and helps physicians not only to diagnose the pathology but also to measure the effectiveness of Percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) or antiarteriosclerotic drugs. Furthermore, the recently developed molecular angioscopy approach allows us to observe Low-density lipoprotein (LDL) oxide, collagen, and macrophages, and is rapidly growing in importance.

Book Practice of Coronary Angioplasty

Download or read book Practice of Coronary Angioplasty written by Thomas Ischinger and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 351 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: After 7 years of clinical use, percutaneous transluminal coronary angio plasty (PTCA) has now found worldwide acceptance, and its basic techniques are well standardized. A growing number of invasive cardi ologists are acquainting themselves with the procedure in order to be in a position to offer new therapeutic options to their patients. However, the transition from the diagnostic to the therapeutic intervention is not always easily accomplished. Certain prerequisites concerning technique, the physician, technical equipment, and program organization are necessary for safe and effective performance. The consequences of unsuccessful coronary angioplasty range from waste of time and money to severe complications for the patient; the decision to perform PTCA needs to be based on sound indications and techniques according to the best current scientific evidence. Techniques and technology for coronary angioplasty continue to evolve. Scientific evidence of its short-and long-term value continues to accumulate, and applications of the procedure are still being extended. This volume is obviously no substitute for well-guided hands-on experience with the procedure; it is intended rather to present current policies of patient selection and patient management; to describe standard techniques (femoral and brachial approaches) and potential applications; to point out problem areas and limitations of the proce dure; and to provide tips that may be useful even for the more experienced angioplasty operator.

Book Quantitative Coronary Arteriography

Download or read book Quantitative Coronary Arteriography written by Johan H. C. Reiber and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 388 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In June 1989, a third conference concentrating on the progress in quantita tive coronary angiography and related techniques was held in Rotterdam, again very successful as the two preceding events in 1985 and 1987. Tech nical as well as clinical aspects of digital and digitized coronarography, morphometry, parametric imaging and functional quantification of the human coronary circulation were presented and discussed by prominent exponents of those groups who have been active in this particular field for many years. This book contains the chapters representing the lectures held by leading experts during the symposium that update the knowledge currently available, including most recent aspects in angioscopy and intravascular ultrasound imaging. It also includes a historical review on the development of angiogra phic techniques from the very early days on to our times given by one of the pioneers in heart catheterization and angiography, Dr. Kurt Amplatz. Those who had the chance to listen to his talk, will surely remember his impressive, humorous lecture as one of the highlights of this meeting.

Book Advances in Quantitative Coronary Arteriography

Download or read book Advances in Quantitative Coronary Arteriography written by Johan H. C. Reiber and published by Springer. This book was released on 2012-10-28 with total page 640 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this fourth book in the series on quantitative coronary arteriography (QCA) with the earlier three volumes published in 1986, 1988 and 1991, the latest developments in this exciting field are covered. Both the methodolog ical and clinical application aspects of these advances are presented in a comprehensive manner in a total of 37 chapters by world renowned experts. The book is subdivided into a total of eight parts, beginning with the more methodological issues, such as QCA and other modalities (3 chapters), cine film versus digital arteriography (3 chapters), quality control in QCA (4 chapters), and coronary blood flow and flow reserve (3 chapters). Since QCA has been well established as the technique for the assessment of regression and progression in atherosclerotic disease, and of restenosis after recanaliz ation procedures, major clinical trials in both groups are described extensively by their principal investigators in a total of 11 chapters. In addition, the QCA results after the application of various recanalization techniques are presented in another eight chapters. In the last part the experiences with various intracoronary prostheses with the emphasis on QCA are discussed in five chapters. This large increase in application oriented chapters means that QCA is well alive and gaining momentum. Although the accuracy and precision of the analytical methods steadily improve with the increasing complexity of the algorithms, there is still always the human factor involved in these processes in terms of frame selection, segment definition, etc.
