Book excerpt: The purpose of this study was to identify the UW-Stout, School of Education faculty and staff perceptions regarding utilizing an ePortfolio for assessment purposes. More specifically it looked at beliefs about benefits to various stakeholders, background and familiarity with ePortfolios, and satisfaction with the current UW-Stout, School of Education ePortfolio system. An online survey was utilized to gather perceptions of current, actively teaching (assigned to be teaching) instructors within the School of Education at UW-Stout for the fall 2011 and spring 2012 semesters. The faculty, staff and program directors at UW-Stout believe that these ePortfolios were beneficial to the students as well as in gathering assessment data for accreditation purposes, which has shown to be common among higher education perceptions. However, there was mass agreement that the ePortfolio was not being utilized to its fullest potential.

Book Teacher Candidate Perceptions of Electronic Portfolios

Download or read book Teacher Candidate Perceptions of Electronic Portfolios written by William M. Baronak and published by . This book was released on 2011 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Today, many students in higher education are considered digital natives--savvier and more experienced with technology than students in the past. In teacher preparation programs, teacher education students are commonly expected to demonstrate achievement of program goals and objectives and national teaching standards in a "portfolio." Gaining in popularity, the electronic portfolio delivers meaningful rich data in an electronic format. Much of the research on electronic portfolios has centered in higher education and has been primarily focused on the delivery of portfolios from the perspective of faculty and on the role of the portfolio in assessment from an administrative perspective. With limited research on the student voice in the process of the creation and implementation of electronic portfolio, this research studied the perceptions of the electronic portfolio from the end-user, recent graduates in teacher education. Using a qualitative framework, recent graduates from a teacher preparation program were interviewed regarding their electronic portfolio experience. Qualitative data were collected via structured interviews on the process, preparation, and utilization of the electronic portfolio during the teacher education program. Additionally, the electronic portfolios of those interviewed provided document analysis. Several themes emerged that centered on the repetitive narrative of the narrative rationale statements, the utilitarian purposes of the portfolio, the impact of the portfolio assessment on portfolio changes, and the reflective nature of portfolio construction. The implications of this research extend to the use of electronic portfolios in higher education across disciplines and into k-12 education. Download or read book The Perceptions and Practices on Portfolio Assessment written by Hakan Işlek and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2013 with total page 84 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With the implementation of the new program for primary schools in 2005 by the Ministry of National Education in Turkey, alternative assessments, especially portfolio assessment, have become important for evaluating students' achievement. One of the main emphasis of the new program was about being independent learners who search for information, monitor each others' performance, and work together for reciprocal achievement. Among many dimensions of assessment, the new program obligated teachers to evaluate their students' success by considering portfolios as assessment sources. Hence, this study aims to explore how teachers perceive and practise portfolio assessment. Moreover, the study provides information about the attitudes and performances of the students on portfolio tasks.
