This book was released on 2021 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With the current rapid and forced adoption of online teaching during COVID-19 pandemic in many parts of the globe, the need for more studies for the burden faculty members will face to improve online learning will increase. This study aimed to examine the perceptions of faculty in Qassim University (QU) and Princess Nourah University (PNU) in Saudi Arabia toward distance education. For this purpose, the quantitative approach was used using an online survey instrument, quantitative data were collected from 122 faculty members. Findings of this study may encourage administrators in the KSA's higher education institutions to make key policy and process decisions that focus on improving the quality of online teaching. Understanding the influence (positive or negative) of faculty perceptions on online learning can help inform their decisions. The sample of the study consisted of 122 faculty members of faculty in Qassim University (QU) and Princess Nourah University (PNU) in Saudi Arabia. Findings from this particular study at both Universities have shown promising evidence that faculty members had a positive attitude toward online courses to some extent. The findings failed to support the null hypothesis of no difference for perceived value of distance education, and institutional support of online education regarding the influence of institutional support of online education on faculty perceptions of distance education. The results indicated that as length of institutional support of online education increases, satisfaction with effectiveness of online learning also increases. Faculty perceived value of distance education were also found to be related to the individual's perceptions of distance education. As the perceived value of distance education were more positive, so too does satisfaction with effectiveness of online learning. Theoretically, the findings of the current study are in concert with earlier research by Herzberg (1985) whose two-factor theory attributed increased responsibility advancement, and achievement to satisfaction.

Book Transferring Language Learning and Teaching From Face to Face to Online Settings

Download or read book Transferring Language Learning and Teaching From Face to Face to Online Settings written by Giannikas, Christina Nicole and published by IGI Global. This book was released on 2022-02-18 with total page 382 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Language teaching programs have to respond to the need for distance education, with teachers working to transfer their material onto online platforms and/or learning management systems (LMS) even though their materials are not designed with distance learning in mind. COVID-19 has led to English language teaching programs extending their teaching online for the unforeseeable future and trying to adjust the material to deliver high-quality practice. The education emergency caused by the COVID-19 pandemic has revealed that the world needs an education system that favors flexibility and resilience to equip educators to face unpredictable emergencies that may arise. Transferring Language Learning and Teaching From Face-to-Face to Online Settings examines the phenomenon of emergency language education further and provides an avenue for language teachers and researchers to share their experience, thoughts, and suggestions about transferring their material and teaching approaches from face-to-face (f2f) to an online setting. The edited volume offers a platform for exploring how the field of language teaching is adapting to changes that have derived from the pandemic, with a strong focus on the challenges faced and ways to move forward. Covering topics such as digital pedagogy and teacher education, it is ideal for instructors, faculty trainers, instructional designers, administrators, policymakers, researchers, teachers, teacher educators, and students.

Book Higher Education in Saudi Arabia

Download or read book Higher Education in Saudi Arabia written by Larry Smith and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-14 with total page 199 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides the first academically rigorous description and critical analysis of the Higher Education system in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and of the vision, strategies and policy imperatives for the future development of Saudi universities. The government of Saudi Arabia has recognized in both policy and practice the necessity of developing its university system to world-class standard. Significantly increasing access and participation in Higher Education across a range of traditional and non-traditional disciplines is directly relevant to the future social and economic growth of the country. This book addresses the way in which Saudi Arabia is moving to develop a quality university system that balances the need for students to gain the knowledge, skills and ‘ways of doing’ necessary to operate effectively on the world stage while simultaneously maintaining and demonstrating the fundamental values of the Islamic religion and culture. The book provides a description and critical analysis of the key components of the Saudi Higher Education system, and of system-level responses to the challenges and opportunities facing Saudi universities. It is written by a team of Saudi academics and authors of international standing from non-Saudi universities so as to provide both internal and external perspectives on all issues and to place information and ideas in the context of the international Higher Education scene.

Book Factors Affecting Faculty s Intent to Use E learning Systems at a University in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia

Download or read book Factors Affecting Faculty s Intent to Use E learning Systems at a University in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia written by Razan I. Alsuwailem and published by . This book was released on 2018 with total page 91 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: E-learning systems provide instructors with a platform to create, deliver, and manage course content electronically. Faculty members' use of an e-learning system at Saudi universities concerns researchers, academics, and practitioners. Although most Saudi universities have an e-learning system, few faculty members are using an e-learning system. The Saudi Arabia Ministry of Education has seen massive investment toward the educational improvement in e-learning systems through building and maintaining an advanced level of Information Technology infrastructure, improving the utilization and flexibility of Information Technology resources, and enhancing and developing the privacy and security of e-learning systems. While previous research has examined factors affecting the acceptance of e-learning, few studies have examined the security of e-learning systems. Previous studies indicate the security of e-learning systems is important for motivating faculty to use e-learning systems due to issues of trust. Previous research has also examined the positive impact on users' attitudes toward using e-learning systems by two factors: perceived ease of use (PEOU) and perceived usefulness (PU). The goal of this study was to examine the relationship between faculty members' intent to use (ITU) the e-learning system at their university and their demographic characteristics, perceptions toward the existing e-learning system security, PEOU, and PU of the e-learning system in one of largest universities at the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA), King Faisal University (KFU), using an online survey available in Arabic and English. A sample of 219 faculty members from KFU completed the online survey. Results found faculty members' ITU the e-learning system at KFU was influenced by their previous teaching experience with an e-learning system, the ability to change the user password in the e-learning system, and the PU of the e-learning system. The study findings encourage researchers to study other factors that may influence faculty members' ITU the e-learning system. Furthermore, the findings will help Information Technology practitioners, especially e-learning systems' developers, to design and develop systems that will be more likely accepted and useful by the University faculty members.

Book Factors Predicting Faculty Members Intention to Teach Online in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia

Download or read book Factors Predicting Faculty Members Intention to Teach Online in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia written by Fahad Obaid T. Alenezi and published by . This book was released on 2019 with total page 133 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Despite the benefits online education provides, some faculty still consider online teaching less effective than traditional teaching and are not convinced they want to be involved in distance education (Blin & Munro, 2008; Bolliger & Wasilik, 2009; Chen & Chen, 2006). In the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA), the movement toward online education is slow and not promising due to several factors that may relate to faculty, learners, and institutions. The aim of this study was to investigate faculty members' intentions to teach online at the University of Hail in KSA based on the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB). Additionally, this study assessed the effect of demographic characteristics (age, gender, computer use, and years of experience) on attitude toward behavior, subjective norm and perceived behavioral control and whether these variables significantly moderate the relationship between faculty members' 1) attitude toward behavior, subjective norm, perceived behavioral control and 2) their behavioral intention (BI) to teach online. This study employed a quantitative research methodology to address the research questions. The results of this study indicated that the combined TPB constructs (attitude, subjective norm, and perceived behavioral control) significantly predicted faculty members' intention to teach online and approximately 39.1% of the variance in the faculty's behavioral intention to teach online was explained by these three predictors. Specifically, the results indicated that attitude ([beta] = 0.44, p

Book Perceptions of Online Distance Education Within the North Carolina Community College System by Chief Academic Officers and Chief Distance Education Officers

Download or read book Perceptions of Online Distance Education Within the North Carolina Community College System by Chief Academic Officers and Chief Distance Education Officers written by and published by . This book was released on 2001 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this study was to determine the perceptions of chief academic officers (CAOs) and chief distance education officers (CDOs) regarding faculty satisfaction in areas of released time for training and course development, workload, overall support of distance education, and extra compensation. One-hundred-sixteen surveys were sent out by e-mail to all 58 community colleges in North Carolina. The data for this study came from the returned surveys. The combined return rate of surveys was 78%. The SAS Institute program procedures were used for the analysis of the data. An alpha level of .05 was used for all statistical analyses. Results of this study showed differences between the CAOs and CDOs regarding faculty satisfaction on key issues. One reason for this could be more frequent contact of faculty with CDOs than with the CAOs. Recommendations for further research include: 1. This study should be replicated in 2 to 3 years to ascertain what changes have occurred in North Carolina community colleges; 2. Similar comparative studies should be made regarding community colleges in other states; 3. Additional studies should be conducted in North Carolina to gather comments and concerns directly from faculty members. The following recommendations are made to improve distance education in North Carolina: 1. Adequate technology funding for distance education programs in North Carolina community colleges needs to be acquired; 2. A state formula should be developed to enable the sharing of FTE for community colleges in North Carolina that provide joint distance education programs; 3. Long-range plans for supporting and training faculty members and funding distance education programs should be developed in North Carolina community colleges; 4. Community colleges without written distance education policies should develop them; 5. Community college administrators should become better informed about the needs of distance education faculty members and programs; and 6. A state wide task-force needs to be developed to study the needs of distance education faculty members and programs in North Carolina.
