Book excerpt: Research with the Locus of Control Construct, Volume 3: Extensions and Limitations presents the extensions of use of the locus of control construct into areas far removed from the purview of the construct's originators and limitations of that usage. This book is divided into two parts. Part I describes the large number of investigations that have been conducted in each of three psychological domains—industrial psychology, psychophysiology, and cross-cultural psychology. Part II examines the question of the circumstances under which locus of control is a useful construct. Book The Oxford Handbook of Leader Member Exchange

Download or read book The Oxford Handbook of Leader Member Exchange written by Talya N. Bauer and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2015-08-14 with total page 457 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Leader-member exchange (LMX) is the foremost dyadic theory in the leadership literature. Whereas contemporary leadership theories such as transformational, servant, or authentic leadership theories focus on the effects of leader behaviors on employee attitudes, motivation, and team outcomes, relational leadership theory views the dyadic relationship quality between leaders and members as the key to understanding leader effects on members, teams, and organizations. This approach views trust- and respect-based relationships as the cornerstone of leadership. LMX has grown from a new theory in the 1970s to a mature area of research in 2015. Interest in this theory has increased rapidly over the past four decades, and the pace of research in this area continues to accelerate dramatically. The Oxford Handbook of Leader-Member Exchange takes stock of the literature to examine its roots, what is currently known, what research gaps may exist, and what areas are in need of the most urgent research.

Book Some Personality Determinants of the Effects of Participation

Download or read book Some Personality Determinants of the Effects of Participation written by Victor H. Vroom and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2019-05-28 with total page 110 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Originally published in 1960, this study was carried out as part of the research of the Organizational Behavior and Human Relations Program of the Institute of Social Research. The primary purpose was to determine the effects of participation in decision-making on people with different personality characteristics. It was hypothesized that equalitarians and individuals with strong independence needs would be more positively affected by the opportunity to participate in making decisions than authoritarians and people with weaker independence needs. The results, based on data derived in an actual industrial setting, confirmed the hypothesis. The theoretical implications of the findings are discussed.

Book Two Economists Musings on the Stability of Locus of Control

Download or read book Two Economists Musings on the Stability of Locus of Control written by Deborah A. Cobb-Clark and published by . This book was released on 2011 with total page 43 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Empirical studies of the role of non-cognitive skills in driving economic behavior often rely heavily on the assumption that these skills are stable over the relevant time frame. We analyze the change in a specific non-cognitive skill, i.e. locus of control, in order to directly assess the validity of this assumption. We find that short- and medium-run changes in locus of control are rather modest on average, are concentrated among the young or very old, do not appear to be related to the demographic, labor market, and health events that individuals experience, and are unlikely to be economically meaningful. Still, there is no evidence that locus of control is truly time-invariant implying that the use of lagged measures results in an errors-in-variables problem that could downward bias the estimated wage return to locus of control by as much as 50 percent. Those researchers wishing to analyze the economic consequences of non-cognitive skills should consider (i) restricting their analysis to the working-age population for whom there is little evidence of systematic change in skill levels and (ii) accounting for error in the skill measures they employ.
