A veces, también, ha sucumbido a la tentación de respuestas apocalípticas. Menos habitual ha sido apostar por lugares de observación más analíticos, como los de las contribuciones a este volumen que, para afrontar el reto de pensar la vida social cuando se complica, apuestan por hacerlo a partir de una reflexión fuerte sobre la noción de agencia: ¿Cómo es la agencia en situación de crisis? ¿Sirve la vieja manera de entender la acción colectiva? ¿Qué actor aparece en un mundo de riesgos permanentes e incertidumbres estructurales? ¿Son todavía útiles las viejas imágenes del actor o de la acción? ¿Puede pensar la sociología heredada los procesos actuales de integración/desintegración, de individuación/solidaridad? ¿Disponemos de figuras para imaginar y herramientas para analizar la agencia, individual o colectiva, en situaciones que, a veces, parecen de crisis permanente? Pensar la agencia en la crisis se ordena en cuatro grandes bloques. En el primero se abordan los distintos impactos estructurales de la crisis sobre la agencia. El segundo regresa sobre lo que la sociología tiene ya construido acerca de la agencia, y repasa su vigencia o propone la necesidad de revisarla a la luz de las fisuras que se han generado en torno al concepto de sociedad. El tercero mira hacia algunas formas y personajes de la nueva agencia, los protagonistas de un mundo tan precario como trenzado transnacionalmente. El cuarto, por último, observa los trabajos de resistencia, resignificación y movilización que se desenvuelven en una modernidad, la actual, sin recetas únicas, ni para actuar ni para pensar la crisis.

Some economies of the European periphery also suffered from similar domestic issues and plunged into recession due to economic crisis and austerity policies implemented in its wake. This book theorises and analyses the evolving nature of capitalism in emerging economies (the BRICs) and the European periphery in the face of pressures from globalisation and economic crises The volume seeks to make sense of these crises and their impact using the framework of comparative capitalism while testing its applicability beyond the advanced industrialised countries for which it was developed. The authors draw on late Uwe Becker’s open qualitative approach, systematically integrating the state into the analysis and paying close attention to the role of changing ideas, character of international integration, leadership and informality. The contributors analyse different responses to crises by the BRICs and countries of the Southern European periphery as well as respective dimensions of state-business interaction. The findings contribute to theorising varieties of capitalism beyond the OECD world and to developing a dynamic theory of capitalist change in the face of pressures from globalisation and economic crises. La crisis del periodismo es un reflejo fiel de la crisis del sistema de mercado, cau-sante de una sociedad angustiada e insolidaria. Si el sistema de mercado se siente inseguro en el laberinto que él mismo ha creado, pero a la vez es dueño del periodismo “de masas”, lo más habitual es que al receptor le llegue un periodismo “light” dominado por las pugnas políticas, el acoso y derribo al disidente, las catástrofes y sucesos, el entretenimiento (no inocente), el sensacionalismo, amarillismo el periodismo “rosa”, el deporte y la información meteorológica. El poder público sirve para centrar en él casi todas las “bofe-tadas” porque, ¿cómo morder la mano de tu señor? Sin embargo, el poder del mundo no es exactamente público sino privado. Como el periodismo se ha alejado de los ciudadanos, los ciudadanos bus-can su información en otros lugares alternativos, así ha ido creciendo la crisis del periodismo que se ha agravado con la crisis de un sistema que busca nuevos modelos de negocio en muchas ocasiones a costa del periodismo. Menos mal que, al mismo tiempo, aparecen iniciativas, aún por consolidarse, que aportan una esperanza para el desarrollo del conocimiento.
