Book Pennsylvanian Stratigraphy in South Central Idaho and Adjacent Areas

Download or read book Pennsylvanian Stratigraphy in South Central Idaho and Adjacent Areas written by Claus Axelsen and published by . This book was released on 1972 with total page 258 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Pennsylvanian rocks in south-central Idaho and adjacent areas consist of three main facies: a platform facies, a shelf facies, and a marginal basin facies. The platform facies is represented by the Amsden, Quadrant, and Tensleep Formations, in southwestern Montana and western Wyoming, and contain Middle and probably Lower Pennsylvanian strata. The shelf facies is represented by the Pennsylvanian part of the White Knob Limestone, which extends from the Lemhi Range to the White Knob Mountains west of the Lost River Range in south-central Idaho, and contains Lower, Middle, and Upper Pennsylvanian strata. The marginal basin facies is represented by clastics of the Middle and Upper Pennsylvanian part of the Wood River Formation, in the Wood River region in south-central Idaho, and the Lower, Middle, and Upper Pennsylvanian part of the Wells Formation in southeastern Idaho. Broad epeirogenic upwarps or eustatic sea level caused the shelf and platform to be alternately positive and negative during Pennsylvanian time. Pennsylvanian seas reached maximum inundation during Desmoinesian time after which a temporary offlap developed during Missourian through Middle Virgilian time on the platform and shelf areas, and epicontinental seas were restricted to the Wells and Wood River basins. During Late Virgilian time the seas spread to the east over former areas of post-Desmoinesian erosion on the shelf area Generalized isopachous and lithofacies maps of Pennsylvanian time-stratigraphic units are presented, with interpretations of the positions and periods of activity of positive and negative elements.

Book Pennsylvanian and Permian Fusulinids of Western Montana and Central Idaho

Download or read book Pennsylvanian and Permian Fusulinids of Western Montana and Central Idaho written by Richard Claude Weart and published by . This book was released on 1950 with total page 342 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Pennsylvanian strata in southwestern Montana include the Quadrant and at least the upper beds of the Amsden Formation. Rocks of equivalent age are found throughout most of south-central Montana and extend into neighboring states to the east, south, and southwest, where they are known under various formational names. For some time it has been believed that a contribution to Pennsylvanian stratigraphy in this area could be made by study of the micro-fauna, particularly the fusulinids. For this study, sections previously measured and reported as being fairly complete and well-exposed were revisited for detailed examination. The sections examined were chosen with the idea in mind of obtaining a series of sections which would show the maximum variation in facies and thickness in relation to the presumed positions of the ancient Pennsylvanian shorelines. All types of sediments were examined for fusulinids, particular attention being paid to the shales, carbonates, and cherts. Nine sections of Pennsylvanian strata were examined and measured in detail. In addition, four other sections were examined for fusulinid remains. Fusulinids were found to occur in only three sections. Fortunately, these sections are situated in critical areas, thereby establishing important relationships. New information has been found concerning the correlation and geologic age of the Pennsylvanian strata. These data, as well as other pertinent information pertaining to the Pennsylvanian sediments, are discussed in the body of the text and summarized in the conclusions.

Book Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences

Download or read book Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences written by Wade H. Shafer and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 407 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences was first conceived, published, and disseminated by the Center for Information and Numerical Data Analysis and Synthesis (CINDAS) * at Purdue University in 1 957, starting its coverage of theses with the academic year 1955. Beginning with Volume 13, the printing and dissemination phases of the activity were transferred to University Microfilms/Xerox of Ann Arbor, Michigan, with the thought that such an arrangement would be more beneficial to the academic and general scientific and technical community. After five years of this joint undertaking we had concluded that it was in the interest of all con cerned if the printing and distribution of the volumes were handled by an interna tional publishing house to assure improved service and broader dissemination. Hence, starting with Volume 18, Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences has been disseminated on a worldwide basis by Plenum Publishing Cor poration of New York, and in the same year the coverage was broadened to include Canadian universities. All back issues can also be ordered from Plenum. We have reported in Volume 29 (thesis year 1984) a total of 12,637 theses titles from 23 Canadian and 202 United States universities. We are sure that this broader base for these titles reported will greatly enhance the value of this important annual reference work. While Volume 29 reports theses submitted in 1984, on occasion, certain univer sities do report theses submitted in previous years but not reported at the time.
