Book Speak Some Spanish

Download or read book Speak Some Spanish written by Judith Noble and published by Dog Ear Publishing. This book was released on 2017-04-28 with total page 284 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: SPEAK SOME SPANISH is ideal for an informal class or for self-study. It provides a solid grammatical foundation within a useful context, extensive vocabulary, much presented in a unique way, and avenues for developing communication skills. While grammar is explained throughout, the book is designed around communication needs, language usage, useful topics, such as greetings, coping in a conversation, weather, telling time, directions, descriptions, and ways to speak of past, present, and future actions. Verbs, often a source of dismay for language learners, are presented in a unique way. Their mastery is made much simpler; no longer is there the challenge or tedium of memorizing conjugations. Following the regular chapters are nine EXTRA sections covering verb charts for and additional uses of the present subjunctive as well as other important verb forms, tenses, and their uses that are not covered in the chapters: commands; the two simple past tenses - the imperfect (indicative) and the preterite - their forms, their uses, and their use together; and the future (indicative.) These sections are for reference for anyone wishing to expand the SOME of the book title, SPEAK SOME SPANISH. The book concludes with present indicative verb charts and vocabularies.

During his journey, Dani will find himself at the intersections of seemingly conflicting identities — Mexican/Chicano/Anglo, thug/intellectual, straight/queer, loner/friend. Along the way, Dani will begin to weave toward clarity with the help of a therapist, feuding mentors, an elitist boss, a persistent drug addict, a former love, and an old woman obsessed with his character flaws and the pizzas with extra green peppers. If he has any hope of finding himself, Dani must ultimately answer the question posed by one of his customers—a question that haunts him at every turn: &¿Qué tipo de persona quieres ser? What kind of person do you want to be?

Book excerpt: When I was a child I tried a whole host of things and I always had the full support of my mother, Carmel Armstrong, and she told me that I could do anything that I put my mind to and I believed her and not only did I believe her, but I have also tried to pass this same message on to others as often as I could and especially to children because there's no greater gift that a human being can give to another than the gift of encouragement. And because of the wonderful and magnificent gift of encouragement, I am currently living my dream of being a published author and I have wanted this title ever since I watched my mother sit in front of her typewriter while filling the pages with words and in case you haven't guessed by now my mother was also a writer. The Playground is a gritty Gangster Novel that takes you on a journey through the lives of Sophia and David Bloom; mother and son who are forced to move to a Housing Project that's located on the Eastside of South Central Los Angeles after a family tragedy robs them of their financial well being. And their move takes place just before the rise of Crack Cocaine and before the decline of Heroin and it puts them in direct contact with dirty Cops, F.B.I. Agents, C.I.A. Operatives, Gangsters, Drug Dealers, White Supremacists, Thieving dope fiends of the worst kind, Revolutionaries or Domestic Terrorists if you prefer, and other shady representatives of the United States Government. But that's just the beginning because you see there's an unbelievable twist to the story that you won't believe. And I invite you to learn who Damu is and who Warlock is.

Book Thematic Relations

  • Author : Mário A. Perini
  • Publisher : Springer Nature
  • Release : 2019-10-23
  • ISBN : 3030285383
  • Pages : 245 pages

Download or read book Thematic Relations written by Mário A. Perini and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2019-10-23 with total page 245 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents a proposal to better define thematic relations by exploring the relation between language and cognition. It analyzes the relation between grammatically defined roles such as agent and patient (semantic roles), and elaborate thematic relations (ETRs) actually accessible to language users. It shows that many phenomena previously analyzed as grammatical can be described in a more simple and convenient way by postulating direct connection between syntactic complements and cognitive relations present in the schema evoked by the verb. The volume focuses on a topic which has been the object of much discussion in the recent literature, namely the definition and delimitation of semantic roles, proposing new solutions to some important theoretical and practical problems in the description of the lexicogrammatical structure of languages, and in particular of verb valency. It shows that in many cases a direct relation can be established between morphosyntactic units and functions, on one hand, and ETRs, on the other, without the intermediation of grammatically defined semantic roles. This makes it possible to analyze thematic relations that have been traditionally problematic, such as the patient, in a linguistically simple and cognitively well-motivated way. Thematic Relations – A Study in the Grammar-Cognition Interface will be a useful resource for practicing linguists working on the analysis of natural languages, in particular on verb valency; verb subcategorization and thematic structure; semantic (thematic) roles, their definition and syntactic coding; the relation between grammatical structure and cognitive schemata (frames); and the structure of the lexicon.
