Book Papr Reduction in Ofdm System Using Pulse Shaping Technique

Download or read book Papr Reduction in Ofdm System Using Pulse Shaping Technique written by Prakash Shahi and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2011-02 with total page 76 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) techniques allow the transmission of high data rates over broadband radio channels subject to multipath fading without the need for powerful channel equalization. However, they are very sensitive to nonlinear effects owing to high peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR) owned by their transmitted signals. This thesis proposes an efficient technique for reducing the PAPR of OFDM signals. The proposed technique is data-independent and, thus, does not require new processing and optimization for each transmitted OFDM block. The reduction in PAPR of the OFDM signal is obtained through a proper selection of a pulse shaping scheme that distributes the power of each modulated symbol over the OFDM block such that the average power of OFDM signal will not be far from individual symbol power. It is shown, through computer simulations, that the PAPR of pulse shaped OFDM signals approaches that of single-carrier signals. The pulse shaping schemes also take advantage of the frequency variations of the communication channel and can provide considerable performance gain in multipath fading channels

Book Peak to Average Power Ratio Reduction in Ofdm Systems

Download or read book Peak to Average Power Ratio Reduction in Ofdm Systems written by Mohammed El-Absi and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2011-02 with total page 96 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) technology promises to be a key technique for achieving the high data capacity and spectral efficiency requirements for wireless communication systems of the near future. However, OFDM poses high peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR) problem, as a consequence of independently modulated carriers, that causes degradation on the error performance of the system, low efficiency of the power amplifier, and increases the complexities of the system. Reducing the PAPR can be regarded as an important issue to realize efficient and affordable communication services. This study proposes efficient PAPR reduction methods for OFDM signals by decreasing the possibility of peaks of the subcarriers signals to occur at the same time. The achieved results confirm that the proposed methods are capable of reducing the PAPR significantly and, therefore, of improving error performance of the system. The proposed methods were applied to multicarrier code division multiple access (MC-CDMA.

Book New Peak to average Power Ratio Reduction Schemes for OFDM Systems

Download or read book New Peak to average Power Ratio Reduction Schemes for OFDM Systems written by Peng Liu and published by . This book was released on 2004 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is known that the orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) modulation is very suitable for high-speed wireless transmission systems due to its bandwidth efficiency and ability in coping with multipath fading. However, the large peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR) of an OFDM signal limits the application of OFDM to a certain degree. The research focus of this thesis is on the study of some new PAPR reduction schemes for OFDM systems. In the first part of the thesis, we investigate the peak windowing method, the clipping method, and a combination of the two techniques with an emphasis on the performance assessment of the transmitted OFDM signal using the combination scheme. We start with the review of the two typical signal distortion techniques and point out their advantages and shortcomings. We then propose a combination scheme for the two techniques in order to overcome their drawbacks. In the proposed combination scheme, a weighting function is used to remove instantaneous signal peaks and then a hard-limiting is utilized for the reduction of the overall peak powers. A modified IDFT interpolation is developed and employed in the combination scheme to improve the interpolation precision of the time-domain OFDM signal. (Abstract shortened by UMI.).

Book PAPR Reduction of OFDM Signals Using Pulse Shaping

Download or read book PAPR Reduction of OFDM Signals Using Pulse Shaping written by Yuwen Jian and published by . This book was released on 2006 with total page 206 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this thesis an approach to generate the optimal pulse shaping matrix is proposed to minimize the signal distortions while keeping the PAPR reduction ability for this pulse shaping method. Numerical study has proved the PAPR reduction ability for the pulse shaping scheme. However, it is not desirable to obtain the CCDF through simulation due to its inefficiency. Thus, theoretical study is needed to analyze the PAPR for OFDM with pulse shaping. In the literature the analysis of PAPR distribution is based on the OFDM signal without pulse shaping being stationary. In this thesis, a proper transformation is applied to transform the non-stationary OFDM signal with pulse shaping into a stationary signal and the PAPR distribution is analyzed. Due to the difficulty representing PAPR distribution in close form, an upper bound for the CCDF of PAPR will be derived instead for OFDM signals with suitably choosing pulse shaping filters. Numerical study has also been carried out to test and verify our theoretical analysis results.

Book Reducing Peak to Average Power Ratio of OFDM by Using Selected Mapping

Download or read book Reducing Peak to Average Power Ratio of OFDM by Using Selected Mapping written by Wanis Mohamed and published by . This book was released on 2012 with total page 53 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) has become the most popular modulation technique for high speed data transmission. However, high peak to average power ratio (PAPR) is a major drawback of this modulation technique, because high peak reduces the power efficiency of the RF power amplifier at transmitter. This project gives an overview of the popular OFDM reduction techniques, and indicates that selected mapping (SLM) is a promising reduction technique.

Book Investigation on High Spectral Efficiency Coherent Optical OFDM Transmission Systems

Download or read book Investigation on High Spectral Efficiency Coherent Optical OFDM Transmission Systems written by Hussin Saleh Ibrahim Saied Saleh and published by . This book was released on 2015 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) belongs to multicarrier technology which is used in many broadband wired and wireless communication systems. It is used to combat multipath fading. Although, OFDM systems are complex compared to single carrier systems due to design of their transmitter and receiver and also the associated signal processing, significant benefits are achieved. Optical OFDM systems can be classified into three approaches according to the detection scheme. The approaches are direct detection optical OFDM (DDO-OFDM), coherent optical OFDM (CO-OFDM) and self coherent optical OFDM (SCO-OFDM). The most important drawbacks of CO-OFDM are the high peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR), high sensitivity to frequency offset and phase noise. The present dissertation introduces the performance of different pulse shaping techniques. Furthermore, it presents new algorithms to reduce the phase noise effects and compares the system performance with different existing algorithms. Moreover, the performance of a new system design is investigated. The provided dissertation includes four original contributions.Initially, the theoretical principles of OFDM are presented with detailing on the advantages and disadvantages of OFDM compared to the single carrier modulation technology. The theoretical fundamentals of optical OFDM and the differences between the three systems are followed. Furthermore, performance of the three existing optical OFDM systems are elaborated and compared. A square root raised-cosine pulse shaping of OFDM symbols is suggested to enhance the efficiency of CO-OFDM systems. Next, the different kinds of the phase noise effects on the OFDM signals are defined and the impact of the laser and nonlinear phase noise is reported. Different existing phase noise compensation algorithms are presented. Moreover, the modified and new phase noise compensation schemes are provided and compared. ; eng
