Book Pavement Condition Evaluation Utilizing Dynamic Deflection Measurements

Download or read book Pavement Condition Evaluation Utilizing Dynamic Deflection Measurements written by Kamran Majidzadeh and published by . This book was released on 1977 with total page 170 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this study, the research efforts were directed toward the development of pavement condition evaluation techniques and analysis procedures for flexible and rigid overlay pavement design. This investigation also included a detailed field evaluation of an experimental portland cement concrete pavement and the analysis of deflection responses of various test sites. A stepwise regression analysis was carried out to evaluate the relative significance of various design and construction variables on the pavement deflection under load. Various techniques recommended for pavement condition evaluation of pavement structures is reviewed and the Lin-Majidzadeh investigation of dimensional analysis using the pi term concept is presented.

Book Evaluation of Pavement Deflection Measuring Equipment

Download or read book Evaluation of Pavement Deflection Measuring Equipment written by and published by . This book was released on 1987 with total page 176 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report documents the research performed on evaluation of pavement deflection equipment under Contract DTFH61-85-C-00115 for the Federal Highway Administration. The following devices were included in side-by-side field tests conducted in the Austin, Texas area during the week of August 11, 1986: the Benkelman Beam, C.E.B.T.P. Curviameter, Dynaflect, Dynatest Falling Weight Deflectometer (FWD), Kuab FWD, Phonix FWD, and the Road Rater. The report includes descriptions and comparisons of the devices through information obtained from a literature search, field tests and user survey conducted for this study. The side-by-side test program was performed over a broad range of pavement structures, including thick and thin flexible and rigid pavements, and composite pavements. The measured deflections were compared statistically. Mechanistic interpretations of the measured deflection basins were made and compared.

Book Pavement Deflection Evaluations

Download or read book Pavement Deflection Evaluations written by R. Clark Graves and published by . This book was released on 1992 with total page 196 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this study a procedure has been developed to evaluate the structural condition of pavements using Road Rater deflection measurements. These procedures compare actual field deflections with deflections calculated by the Chevron N-Layer linear elastic computer program. The results obtained from these procedures are the layer moduli of the pavement materials. Procedures have been developed for asphaltic concrete pavements and composite pavements, including broken and non-broken concrete layers. This report also contains a comparison of structural overlay determined using the results of the new procedure, with overlays calculated using results from the 2-3 Projected procedure currently used by the Pavement Management branch of the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet. A users manual from the computer programs developed during this study is included in the appendix of the report.

Book Measuring in Situ Mechanical Properties of Pavement Subgrade Soils

Download or read book Measuring in Situ Mechanical Properties of Pavement Subgrade Soils written by David E. Newcomb and published by Transportation Research Board. This book was released on 1999 with total page 84 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This synthesis report will be of interest to pavement and geotechnical design and research engineers, geologists and engineering geologists, and related laboratory personnel. It describes the current practice for measuring in situ mechanical properties of pavement subgrade soils. The tests conducted to measure the mechanical properties of soil strength and stiffness are the primary topics, and these are discussed in the context of design procedures, factors affecting mechanical properties, and the variability of measurements. Information for the synthesis was collected by surveying U.S., Canadian, and selected European transportation agencies and by conducting a literature search. This TRB report provides information on existing and emerging technologies for static and dynamic, and destructive and nondestructive testing for measuring in situ mechanical properties of pavement subgrade soils. Correlations between in situ and laboratory tests are presented. The effects of existing layers on the measurement of subgrade properties, and soil spatial and seasonal variability are discussed. Most importantly, the use of soil properties in pavement design and evaluation are explained. New applications or improvements to existing test methods to support the use of mechanistic/stochastic-based pavement design procedures are also explained.
