Book How Would a Patriot Act

Download or read book How Would a Patriot Act written by Glenn Greenwald and published by Working Assets Publishing. This book was released on 2006 with total page 148 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Glenn Greenwald was not a political man — neither liberal nor conservative. To him, the U.S. was generally on track and would remain forever centrist. But all that has changed. Over the past five years, a creeping extremism has taken hold of our federal government, which threatens to alter our system of governing ourselves and our national character. This extremism is neither liberal nor conservative, but is driven by the Bush administration's radical theories of executive power. Greenwald writes that we cannot abide these unlimited and unchecked presidential powers if we are to remain a constitutional republic. Because when you answer to no one, you're not a president — you're a despot. This is one man's story of being galvanized into action to defend his country, and his concise and penetrating analysis of what is at stake for America when its president has secretly bestowed upon himself the powers of a king. From 9/11 to the question of nuclear war in Iran, Greenwald shows how Bush's claims of unlimited power play out. In the spirit of the colonists who once mustered the strength to denounce a king, Greenwald asks: how would a patriot act today?

Book Drive for Five

Download or read book Drive for Five written by Christopher Price and published by Macmillan + ORM. This book was released on 2017-09-05 with total page 354 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Drive for Five presents the behind-the-scenes look at the legendary 2016 New England Patriots season from the rocky start to the Super Bowl finish by award-winning sportswriter Christopher Price. Foreword by Patriots safety Devin McCourty Afterword by Patriots wide receiver Matthew Slater There are certain moments that simply transcend sports. They become larger than life and bigger than anyone ever thought possible, leaping off the field, the court, or the diamond and into the annals of not only history, but the very fabric of the American milieu. We all just witnessed such a moment on February 5th, 2017, when the New England Patriots battled back from the largest deficit in Super Bowl history to once again become world champions and secure Tom Brady’s legacy as the greatest quarterback of all time. Amid a season of controversy, turmoil, and the most tumultuous political climate of our lifetime, the Patriots won. In spite of becoming entangled in the national spotlight on several occasions, the Patriots won. And in spite of being faced with any number of circumstances that would sink almost every other franchise in the NFL, the Patriots won. The season began with the fallout around Deflategate and losing their MVP-caliber quarterback for the first four games of the season, but honestly, the Deflategate saga was just a small part of it all. This is the story of how the Patriots rallied together as a team to surpass their obstacles on and off the football field and how that led to a remarkable run to the title – and the biggest comeback in Super Bowl history. Complete with player interviews, behind-the-scenes stories never told before, and content provided by Patriots players themselves, Drive for Five provides a unique level of insight and access to the story behind the legendary New England Patriots’ 2016 season.

Book Forgotten Patriot

Download or read book Forgotten Patriot written by Lee P. Anderson and published by Universal-Publishers. This book was released on 2002 with total page 380 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A Biography of one of Americas first hero's. Nathanael Greene was a Quaker from Rhode Island who abandoned his religious upbringing and strived to learn more than only what he found in his own backyard. Educated by some of the greatest minds of the late eighteenth century, as well as be self-taught, Nathanael Greene became a master of human nature, politics and military tactics. As a young man he served in the Rhode Island Assembly prior to the Revolutionary War and with a fever pitched love of freedom, soon joined the members of the Sons of Liberty in their quest for independence from their oppressor, England. With the onset of the Revolutionary War, Greene joined the militia as a private and rocketed to the rank of Brigadier General in less than a year. He soon would be George Washington's most trusted general and the most dreaded foe the British would face in the war. Contrary to what is in most history books, the war did not end in 1781, and Greene was alone in the American struggle to oust the British from our shores. For two years, Greene fought a bitterly contested war in the Southern States and ultimately emerged victorious. Denouncing the call of his fellow countrymen to enter politics, Nathanael Greene chose instead to settle down with his family and live the life of a gentleman farmer on his plantation in Georgia. The service and devotion Greene gave to his country has never been recognized and is long overdue. This author intends to rectify that situation.

Book A Patriot s History of the United States

Download or read book A Patriot s History of the United States written by Larry Schweikart and published by Penguin. This book was released on 2014-11-25 with total page 1005 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For the past three decades, many history professors have allowed their biases to distort the way America’s past is taught. These intellectuals have searched for instances of racism, sexism, and bigotry in our history while downplaying the greatness of America’s patriots and the achievements of “dead white men.” As a result, more emphasis is placed on Harriet Tubman than on George Washington; more about the internment of Japanese Americans during World War II than about D-Day or Iwo Jima; more on the dangers we faced from Joseph McCarthy than those we faced from Josef Stalin. A Patriot’s History of the United States corrects those doctrinaire biases. In this groundbreaking book, America’s discovery, founding, and development are reexamined with an appreciation for the elements of public virtue, personal liberty, and private property that make this nation uniquely successful. This book offers a long-overdue acknowledgment of America’s true and proud history.

Book Patriot Reign

Book excerpt: When Bill Belichick arrived in New England, the Patriots were a laughingstock, an organization with a losing record and a roster of overpaid, underperforming players. So how did a head coach with a questionable record transform this team, garner three Lombardi trophies in four years, and -- with the Pats' 2005 Super Bowl win over the Philadelphia Eagles -- cement the team's place as an NFL dynasty? With unprecedented access granted by Belichick and his staff, author Michael Holley spent two years with the coach, his team, and his brain trust. Holley provides insights into how Belichick and his coaching cabinet prepare for opponents, evaluate talent, run the draft, and design their offensive and defensive schemes. Patriot Reign captures Belichick at his most candid, and what emerges is a portrait of a complicated man who is cerebral, yes, but also tough, demanding, stubborn, funny, profane, and a master strategist. Frank, uncompromising, and stunning, Patriot Reign is required reading for football fans who want to understand what makes a champion tick .
