Book excerpt: Join Sally, Veronica, Tom, and Mora as they finish their last year of law school and unravel the mystery of the ghost texts: key portions of US law that suddenly, no longer exists. If someone was able to single-handedly revise US Law, could they change the path of history? Would it be a better world afterwards, or just a different world? The four friends, trade theories on economics, politics, the roles of men and women in the world, love, war and the inevitability of these; as well as why Veronica seems to know the people she meets before she's met them. It is life at the beginning of a new century, as unexpected as it is ordinary. Punctuated with poetry (collected at the conclusion of the novel) and diverted at times into dreams and fairy tales, Path Word takes you to another dimension, close in time, familiar in setting, but an escape nonetheless, to that realm where the duality of being there and not, is ever-present.

Book excerpt: Are you being called to the spiritual path? If so, are you doing anything about it? I am reminded of the concept; faith without works is dead. If we are being called to find out wonderful things about ourselves, God and the universe, we have to do something about it. Stepping onto a spiritual path is a way. Paths are all about doing. In this book you will find many encouraging words about different paths and the rewards and challenges that come with them. You will find that paths do not have to be organized or supervised, but they must be approached with consciousness and intent and contribute to our lives, and the life of the world. This book is one of my many paths within my one journey. My goal here is to, in some way, touch those who have not yet found a path or those who may be looking but do not know what they are looking for - those who may be wondering about life and God as I was, and still do. If you are at a place and time in your life where you are wondering or feel as though something is missing, this book may be for you. It is written for the "beginners mind." The short easy to read essays, poems and inspiring quotes are meant to send your mind off into wonderful directions, and your life on amazing paths that allow you to grow and blossom, and be the divine person you were meant to be. The different chapters address life and how we live it; our humanness as well as our divine nature. Some of the essays are about the rules of life, life as a game or a gamble, getting ready for our paths and stepping on to them.

Book Action Meets Word

Download or read book Action Meets Word written by Kathy Hirsh-Pasek and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2010-04-29 with total page 605 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Although there has been a surge in our understanding of children's vocabulary growth, theories of word learning lack a primary focus on verbs and adjectives. Researchers throughout the world recognize how our understanding of language acquisition can be at best partial if we cannot comprehend how verbs are learned. This volume represents a proliferation of research on the frontier of early verb learning, enhancing our understanding of the building blocks of language and considering new ways to assess key aspects of language growth.

Book The World and the Word

  • Author : Nongenile M. Zenani
  • Publisher : Univ of Wisconsin Press
  • Release : 1992-10-01
  • ISBN : 0299133133
  • Pages : 513 pages

Download or read book The World and the Word written by Nongenile M. Zenani and published by Univ of Wisconsin Press. This book was released on 1992-10-01 with total page 513 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A master storyteller of the Xhosa people of South Africa, Nongenile Masithathu Zenani gives us an unprecedented view of an oral society from within. Twenty-four of her complex and beautiful tales about birth, puberty, marriage, and work, as told to the renowned collector of African oral tradition, Harold Scheub, are gathered here. Accompanying the stories are Zenani’s detailed commentaries and analyses and Scheub’s striking photographs of her in performance. The combination of these historical and cultural observations with a richly symbolic collection of tales from a single traditional storyteller make The World and the Word a remarkable document. “The storyteller’s materials are simple,” Zenani told Scheub, “the world, and the word.” She presents to us the entire world of the Xhosa people, how they first came to be, the origins of their customs, how they order their world and deal with transgressors, how they manage all of life’s transitions from birth to death. She depicts both the world as it exists and as it is shaped in the words of the storyteller. Inheriting tales from the Xhosa tradition, Zenani has transformed them into imaginative new stories marked by her own artistry. Scheub’s introduction to The World and the Word discusses Xhosa oral tradition and Zenani’s particular characteristics as an artist within that tradition; Zenani’s personal history and her work as both a storyteller and a healer; and Scheub’s friendship with her and his role in recording her legacy.

Book By Word of Mouth

Download or read book By Word of Mouth written by Louis Goossens and published by John Benjamins Publishing. This book was released on 1995-12-08 with total page 266 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume contains seven synchronic and diachronic empirical investigations into the expression and conceptualization of linguistic action in English, focusing on figurative extensions. The following issues are explored: • Source domains, and their relation to the complexities of linguistic action as a target domain. • The role of axiological parameter, the experiential grounding of metaphors expressing value judgements and the part played by image-schemata, how value judgements come about and their socio-cultural embedding. • The graded character of metaphoricity and its correlation with degrees of recoverability/salience. • The interaction of metonymy and metaphor, e.g. the question what factors motivate the conventionalization of metonymies, which includes the perspective that conventionalized metaphors frequently have a metonymic origin. • The role of image-schemata in the organization and development of a lexical subfield, which raises new questions on the nature of metaphor, the identification of source and target domains and the Invariance Hypothesis.

Book Combinatorics on Words

Download or read book Combinatorics on Words written by and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on with total page 163 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The two parts of this text are based on two series of lectures delivered by Jean Berstel and Christophe Reutenauer in March 2007 at the Centre de Recherches Mathematiques, Montreal, Canada. Part I represents the first modern and comprehensive exposition of the theory of Christoffel words. Part II presents numerous combinatorial and algorithmic aspects of repetition-free words stemming from the work of Axel Thue - a pioneer in the theory of combinatorics on words. A beginner to the theory of combinatorics on words will be motivated by the numerous examples, and the large variety of exercises, which make the book unique at this level of exposition. The clean and streamlined exposition and the extensive bibliography will also be appreciated. After reading this book, beginners should be ready to read modern research papers in this rapidly growing field and contribute their own research to its development. Experienced readers will be interested in the finitary approach to Sturmian words that Christoffel words offer, as well as the novel geometric and algebraic approach chosen for their exposition. They will also appreciate the historical presentation of the Thue-Morse word and its applications, and the novel results on Abelian repetition-free words.

Book Exploring the Word

  • Pages : 378 pages

Download or read book Exploring the Word written by Rodney E. Whittle and published by Xulon Press. This book was released on 2009-09 with total page 378 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a daily inspirational study book, based on a pattern to read your Bible through in one year. Rev. Rodney Whittle, along with his congregation, used this plan for many years to read their Bible through; it was such a blessing to him personally. He decided to follow that same format, as he wrote this book. There are two passages to read a day, a morning Old Testament passage and an evening New Testament passage. He would take an inspirational thought he received from that passage and write a study. As he wrote the monthly booklets, he didn't necessarily do them in sequential order and he only lacked eight days of his last month (January), before he passed away. His wife, Grace, worked and completed the eight days that remained, with other materials he had written in times past. Rodney E. Whittle was born in Cereal, Alberta, Canada, on October 29, 1928, and died on September 8, 2007. At his home, two missionaries from the Canadian Sunday School Mission arrived on bicycles to do missionary work. Through the ministry of these men, Rodney was wonderfully converted and called to preach the gospel. He spent the years 1944-1950 at Prairie Bible Institute, where the missionary boys were attending. He met his wife, Grace at Prairie and they married on August 28, 1950 and celebrated 57 happy years together. He had four daughters, ten grandchildren, and six great grandchildren at the time of his passing. He pastored and helped many churches; Houston Texas, Dallas Texas, St. Louis Missouri, Minneapolis Minnesota, Nassau Bahamas, and Kingston Jamaica. He was pastoring in White Bear Lake, Minnesota, at the time of his death.

Download or read book Word and Spirit written by Anselm K. Min and published by Walter de Gruyter. This book was released on 2014-04-01 with total page 230 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Christology and Pneumatology face many challenges today. Eight contributors, four European and four Asian theologians, respond to some of these challenges. Christoph Schwöbel responds to the challenge of fundamentalism and spiritualism through the renewal of the Trinitarian theology of the Reformers, Markus Mühling through a return to the "concarnational" Pneumatology of Thomas Erskine. Hans-Joachim Sander meets the challenge of suffering and powerlessness through the postmodern hermeneutics of heterotopia (Foucault), Lieven Boeve responds to that of skepticism and pluralism through the hermeneutics of interruption. Lee Ki-Sang and Kim Heup Young address the globalization of materialism and anthropocentrism through the respective retrieval of the apophaticism and Christology of Ryu Young Mo, increasingly noted today for his original synthesis of Christianity, Buddhism, Confucianism, and Daoism. Finally, Lai Pan-Chiu and Anselm Min engage in an East/West dialogue, Lai by comparing the Christian idea of deification and the Neo-Confucian idea of self-cultivation, Min the Trinity of Aquinas and the Triad of Zhu Xi. This is a substantial, timely, and insightful contribution to Christology and Pneumatology in the context of the many issues raised by globalization, especially the need for serious East/West dialogue.

Book excerpt: What a Great World! is a new kind of devotional. With Scripture and fresh insights from author Karen Moore, readers are able to focus on one word each day to strengthen their faith and see God's hand at work. These are simple words, words we use every day that we often gloss over when reading God's Word. If, for example, the word for the day is "protect," the reading from Psalm 121:6-8 declares: "The Lord will protect you from all dangers; He will guard your life." Readers will then see how the Lord protects our lives. He is the One who defends us, guards us, and keeps us safe. With one simple word, readers will move from hoping the Lord will protect us, to believing He will act on our behalf. Now that's a Great Word! "What a Great Word! is a beautiful way to spend a few minutes each day focusing on what is really important and growing into the person God created us to become." -- Jean Ziglar, wife of Zig Ziglar

Book Deep Semantics and the Evolution of New Scientific Theories and Discoveries

Download or read book Deep Semantics and the Evolution of New Scientific Theories and Discoveries written by Adi, Tom and published by IGI Global. This book was released on 2019-04-22 with total page 297 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Combining a variety of sounds to form words that can be understood by other individuals, language is one of the defining characteristics of the human species. However, since even highly educated people, great writers, and poets are not consistent regarding the meanings of words, we are unlikely to find consistent rules regarding word meanings by examining human language use. Therefore, deep semantics aims to study of the meanings of individual sounds and their role in creating the meanings of words. Deep Semantics and the Evolution of New Scientific Theories and Discoveries provides innovative insights into the mental processing of word meanings and lack of consistency in human use, while providing examples from different language sources such as, the Quran and Arabic text. This publication presents word roots, the human cognitive system, sound function, and knowledge process, and is designed for linguists, educators, speech professionals, researchers, students, and academics whose interests include topics on the study of people’s imperfect views, feelings, and habits in using words.

Download or read book Hebrew Word Study written by Chaim Bentorah and published by Trafford Publishing. This book was released on 2014-06-25 with total page 253 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many Christians long to study the Word of God in the original Hebrew. They will take Hebrew classes at a college, a synagogue, or online and often become discouraged because these classes either teach them to speak Hebrew or spend considerable time teaching complex rules of grammar when all these Christians want to do is find God's heart and message in His Word. As a result, these Christians usually give up and just go to the back of their Strong's Concordance, a lexicon, or a Bible dictionary to look up a word. This book is written for the Christian who does not want to learn to speak Hebrew or spend long hours trying to understand complex rules of grammar. All they want is to know if there is a deeper meaning to certain Hebrew words. Even after looking up a word in their lexicon, they are still left with a nagging feeling that there must be more. In most cases there is more, and this book will give some guidelines in how to drill down into the very heart, soul, and core of a Hebrew word; it will take you to a world beyond your lexicon, and you do not need a PhD to do it. The only thing you will need is to love the Word of God, and if you love it enough, it will reveal its secrets. Hebrew is a language of the heart, and if you love God enough, He will reveal His heart to you through the ancient Hebrew language.
