Book A Path to Follow

Download or read book A Path to Follow written by Patricia Ann Edwards and published by Heinemann Educational Books. This book was released on 1999 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The diverse and difficult needs of today's children far outstrip the ability of any one institution to meet them. Yet one of the richest resources for understanding a child's early learning experiences-parents-is quite often the most frequently overlooked. A Path to Follow suggests that parent "stories" can be a highly effective, collaborative tool for accessing knowledge that may not be obvious, but would obviously be of benefit. Pat Edwards and her coauthors have here defined "stories" as narratives gained from open-ended conversations and/or interviews, where parents respond to questions designed to shed light on traditional and nontraditional early literacy activities in the home. After all, as a child's first and most important teacher, a parent can offer memories of specific formative interactions, observations on early learning efforts, and thoughts on how their own backgrounds have impacted a child's attitude toward school. In sharing their anecdotes and observations, parents give us the keys to unlock a vault of social, emotional, and educational variables. The secondary benefit to the story approach, of course, is the empowerment that parents feel when they are given the chance to participate in a personally meaningful way-one that respects their viewpoint. As parents and schools continue to wrestle with prodigious challenges-shifting family demographics, time constraints, cultural divides, privacy issues, and of course, economics-stories remain a nonthreatening and practical vehicle for collaboration. With its step-by-step approach to creating parent story programs, sample questions, case studies, and useful guidelines on collecting and interpreting data, A Path to Follow will be hailed as a detailed and innovative roadmap to involving the whole community in a child's education.

Download or read book Hello Holland written by Beth Leipholtz and published by . This book was released on 2020-10-11 with total page 91 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hi mama (or dad!). I've been where you are. The darkness, the unknowns, the fear, the uncertainty -- everything that accompanies a hearing loss diagnosis. You may feel all of these things at once. You may ebb and flow between them. Or you may not know what you feel at all. And that is okay. When you are told your child has significant hearing loss, there is no right reaction. Tears may flow, or they may refuse to come. Anger may boil over, or it may fester. Grief can pave the way, or it can be pushed aside. We all process serious, life-altering news differently. My own family received that news on October 18, 2019. In some ways, it feels like a lifetime ago. In others, the pain and emotions are still fresh. Time is funny that way. My goal in sharing my son Cooper's story -- our story, really -- is to show you that you are truly never alone. This journey to Holland (hang in there, I'll get to the relevancy of this) can feel like a lonely one at the beginning. But when you find acceptance, when you open your heart, there is so much beauty to be found along the way.

The mission assumptions, the economic models, and the pedagogical practices of each are examined. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Think the life of a Zen monk is all serenity, peace, and austerity? Think again. Here, Shozan Jack Haubner gives an often-hilarious, always-candid account of what it’s really like behind those monastery walls. Haubner’s adventures include memories of his dysfunctional Midwestern family that drove him ultimately to declare, “I think I should be a monk!” to a madcap account of the night he got stoned and snuck out of the monastery, alongside more sobering accounts such as his life-threatening brush with illness, the profound impact of a dear friend’s death, and reflections on the controversy that rocked his Zen community. That he finds timeless wisdom in both the tragic and the absurd is a tribute to Haubner's gifts as a writer and humorist, and to his clear insights into the nature of self and what the practice of Zen is all about.

While empathizing with the parental hopes and, especially, fears that lead to overhelping, Lythcott-Haims offers practical alternative strategies that underline the importance of allowing children to make their own mistakes and develop the resilience, resourcefulness, and inner determination necessary for success. Book What We Know about Teaching Teenagers A Guide for Teachers Parents and Administrators

NeSmith and published by Applied Principles of Education & Learning. This book was released on 2021-03-07 with total page 368 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "What we know about teaching Teenagers", 2019 I would like to thank Dr. Richard NeSmith for helping me know more about what goes through teenagers’ minds and grow into a better teacher. Dr. NeSmith’s 28-plus years of teaching experience and careful study of biology, developmental and cognitive psychology make him one of the best experts in the field. His book explains the difficulties students have learning at school and reflects on how to overcome them, promoting a better understanding of the changes going on in teenagers’ lives as well as an elementary understanding of what causes pain points in the brain of the adult-in-the-making. Above all, Dr. NeSmith reminds us that teenagers are individuals, with their personality, strengths, weaknesses, and their ways of showing love and concern. The book has been carefully researched and will make you aware of the cognitive-emotional interactions going on inside the mind of preadolescents to improve your teaching strategies. It is such a privilege to teach and take teenagers from childhood to adulthood. Whether you are a parent, a teacher, or a school administrator you will find in this book strategies to facilitate learning and encourage lifelong learning. =========================================================================== A research-based book addressing brain-based learning and how secondary age students best learn and how teachers can best teach to meet those needs. American public education is on life support like never before. Why? The shift from LEARNING to standardized testing, ticking boxes for administrators, and watering down curricula are some of the reasons. This synthesis of brain-based research emphasizes how students best learn. It is NOT a checklist, it is a strategy that empowered teachers can utilize to improve student learning. But, knowing how teens think enables teachers to know HOW TEENS best LEARN. --Dr. Richard NeSmith

'This is an excellent, practical guide to everyday Buddhism not just for mothers, but for everyone who has ever had a mother. ' Vicki Mackenzie, author of the bestselling Why Buddhism Parenthood can be a time of great inner turmoil for a woman yet parenting books invariably focus on nurturing children rather than the mothers who struggle to raise them. This book is different. It is a book for mothers. Buddhism for Mothers explores the potential to be with your children in the all-important present moment; to gain the most joy out of being with them. How can this be done calmly and with a minimum of anger, worry and negative thinking? How can mothers negotiate the changed conditions of their relationships with partners, family and even with friends? Using Buddhist practices, Sarah Napthali offers ways of coping with the day-to-day challenges of motherhood. Ways that also allow space for the deeper reflections about who we are and what makes us happy. By acknowledging the sorrows as well as the joys of mothering Buddhism for Mothers can help you shift your perspective so that your mind actually helps you through your day rather than dragging you down.
