This book was released on 2022-03-23 with total page 329 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Having spent lots of time in the Chicago area, I'm a big fan of the Great Lakes. These inland seas have a turbulent history and are site of many shipwrecks. This guide to the collisions, wrecks and disasters on the Great Lakes is the best I've read. Ring the ship's bell in salute to this rediscovered series by Skip Kadar." —Nicolas Gilmartin Teranzi, Online Critics Corner This meticulously researched book provides a fact-filled guide to shipwrecks on the Great Lakes. A former harbormaster, "Skip" Kadar became fascinated with the regional history and began researching ships that now lie on the bottom of the freshwater seas. That led to a series of factual books, with this being the first from AAeB. This well-illustrated volume lists the ships and their stories — including the Edmund Fitzgerald heralded in the Gordon Lightfoot song.

Book Advances in Berthing and Mooring of Ships and Offshore Structures

This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 511 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Two previous NATO Advanced Study Institutes (ASI) on berthing and mooring of ships have been held; the first in Lisboa, Portugal in 1965, and the second at Wallingford, England in 1973. These ASls have contributed significantly to the under standing and development of fenders and mooring, as have works by Oil Companies International Marine Forum (1978) and PIANC (1984). Developments in ship sizes and building of new specialized terminals at very exposed locations have necessitated further advances in the combined mooring and fendering technology. Exploration and exploitation of the continental shelves have also brought about new and challenging problems, developments and solutions. Offshore activities and developments have in fluenced and improved knowledge about both ships and other floating structures which are berthed and/or moored under various environmental conditions. The scope of this ASI was to present recent advances in berth ing and mooring of ships and mooring of floating offshore structures, focusing on models and tools available with a view towards safety and reduction of frequencies and consequences of accidents.

Book Legal Status of Government Merchant Ships in International Law

Download or read book Legal Status of Government Merchant Ships in International Law written by Thamarappallil Kochu Thommen and published by Springer. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 187 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is devoted to an examination of the legal status of govern ment merchant ships while on the high seas or in the waters of foreign states in time of peace. The object of this examination is to ascertain whether there is any rule of international law which accords such a ship a higher status than that of private merchant ships. Whether government merchant ships, unlike private ships, are entitled to certain immunities from the jurisdiction of foreign states is the question that we have set out to answer in this book. A discussion of the rules concerning the nationality of such a ship or the jurisdiction of the flag state over her does not find a place in this work. A government merchant ship may be defined as a merchant ship l owned or operated by a state. Immunity of a ship here means the exemption of a government ship from the jurisdiction of any state other than the flag state. This term also connotes the immunity of the flag state from the jurisdiction of the tribunals of foreign states in respect of proceedings connected with such a ship. Immunity of persons means the exemption of persons in the service of a govern ment ship, or other persons on board her, from the jurisdiction of any state other than the flag state.
