This book was released on 2004-01-01 with total page 15 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Iosif Andriasov: Passacaglia for Trombone and Piano, Op. 22C FROM THE BOOK: “ESSAYS ON THE MUSIC OF IOSIF ANDRIASOV” WRITTEN BY MARTA ANDRIASOVA (MARINA KUDRYASHOVA) In 1969, Iosif Andriasov composed the Passacaglia for Trombone and Piano in C minor. It was published by the “Muzyka” International Publishing House in 1973 (Moscow, USSR). Iosif Andriasov made a revision to the work in 1997 and it was later published by IMMA Publishing Co., founded and owned by Marta Andriasova (Kudryashova). IOSIF ANDRIASOV’S THOUGHTS In the early 1970s, Iosif Andriasov gave the following characteristics in his Passacaglia’s theme: “The first half of the majestic theme of the Passacaglia is formed from asceticism, rigor, expressiveness, firmness, power, nobleness, and forgiveness. The second half of the theme: strength is in courage, strength is in humbleness, strength is in sacrifice; then - the narration about the victory; strength is in kindness, strength is in calmness.” ABOUT THE COMPOSITION Iosif Andriasov employs the genre of passacaglia, which was revived in the XX century. Passacaglia is a slow Spanish or Italian dance in 3/4 time. It is also a musical form of the 17th and 18th centuries that is continuous variations on basso ostinato (ground bass) or chordal progression. In this composition, Mr. Andriasov fused the traditions of Western and Eastern (Armenian) music, as well as the traits of an epic, lyrical, and dramatic musical art. The Passacaglia (Grave, 3/4 time, 84 measures) is written in C minor. COOL FACT In 1971, I. Andriasov borrowed, from himself, the music of the Passacaglia for his Second Symphony. In the Second Symphony, the Passacaglia was included in the sixth movement. YOUTUBE LINKS Timothy Owner (Trombone) and Arshak Andriasov (Piano): www.youtube.com/watch?v=bRgs7ktmmpI

Download or read book Training the Composer written by Barrett Ashley Johnson and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2010-10-12 with total page 235 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: While many teachers of music composition have influenced both the aesthetic and eventual success of their students, few have equaled the contributions of Arnold Schoenberg and Nadia Boulanger in the twentieth-century. A larger volume of a more comprehensive collection including all music composition teachers of the era would serve a certain purpose. However, the unique aspect of the current text examines, in detail, and herein presented for the first time in print, many of the teaching materials and approaches of these two famed musicians. Selection of these two teachers for comparison was made owing to the musical position so famously attributed to each: Schoenberg’s predilection to the German School; Boulanger’s favoritism to the French/Stravinsky aesthetic. In making the case for both Schoenberg and Boulanger, the Author has chosen two differing philosophies of music education practice of the late twentieth-century and early twenty-first century: those of Bennett Reimer and David Elliott. The Author examines the materials and methods of each Schoenberg and Boulanger in light of each Reimer’s and Elliott’s case for music education philosophy. Among the subjects discussed: the nature of musical creativity, the process and methods of teaching creativity/music, and the teacher/student dynamic, to name a few. In closing, the Author has presented his own suggestions for teachers, or would-be teachers, of music composition in a seven-step process leading to an effective pedagogy of the subject.
