Book Pattern Recognition Tracking and Vertex Reconstruction in Particle Detectors

Download or read book Pattern Recognition Tracking and Vertex Reconstruction in Particle Detectors written by Rudolf Frühwirth and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021 with total page 208 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This open access book is a comprehensive review of the methods and algorithms that are used in the reconstruction of events recorded by past, running and planned experiments at particle accelerators such as the LHC, SuperKEKB and FAIR. The main topics are pattern recognition for track and vertex finding, solving the equations of motion by analytical or numerical methods, treatment of material effects such as multiple Coulomb scattering and energy loss, and the estimation of track and vertex parameters by statistical algorithms. The material covers both established methods and recent developments in these fields and illustrates them by outlining exemplary solutions developed by selected experiments. The clear presentation enables readers to easily implement the material in a high-level programming language. It also highlights software solutions that are in the public domain whenever possible. It is a valuable resource for PhD students and researchers working on online or offline reconstruction for their experiments.

Book excerpt: Tracking particles through a moving field, such as flowing air, ground, or surface water, is not only a powerful computational method but can also provide insightful visualizations. I have employed this process for a variety of problems from airborne contamination, thermal pollution, and contaminant transport in groundwater. I have even used it to successfully model the mixing of fluorescent dye through the confluence of three pumps in order to distinguish the time of arrival at the destination. While the Lagrangian method (based on time as the independent parameter) is most often used, the Hamiltonian method (based on time as a dependent parameter) can be much faster. Both are developed in this text, which includes many examples. Diffusion (spreading based on material properties) and also dispersion (based on local velocities) are derived, implemented, and illustrated in the text. Flow in factures within porous media, essential to accurately modeling karst formations, is also covered.

Book Particle Tracking Velocimetry

Download or read book Particle Tracking Velocimetry written by Dana Dabiri and published by . This book was released on 2019 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Particle velocimetry is a non-intrusive optical measurement method whereby global velocity fields can be obtained in either two- or three-dimensions through time by inferring fluid motion through the displacement of particle tracers which seed the flow. While particle image velocimetry (PIV), which obtains each velocity vector by tracking groups of particles within an interrogation window through a cross-correlation algorithm, has thrived generously since its development, particle tracking velocimetry (PTV), which obtains each of the velocity vector by tracking individual particle, has received less attention. The goal of this book is to therefore provide a review of PTV, with a focus on methods and techniques that have been implemented towards its development and improvement, rather than on its applications.

Book Three Dimensional Velocity and Vorticity Measuring and Image Analysis Techniques

Download or read book Three Dimensional Velocity and Vorticity Measuring and Image Analysis Techniques written by Th. Dracos and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-06-29 with total page 322 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The contents of this volume reflect to a large extent the efforts made by a group of Institutes at the ETH Zürich to develop new techniques for measurements of flows in fluids in the last decade. The motivation came from the study of tr~sport and mixing processes in natural and industrial systems. One of the characteristic properties of turbulence is its high mixing efficiency. The techniques developed are therefore suitable, although not exclusively, for turbulence measurements. They can be subdivided into point-measurements and field-measurements. The aim of the point-measurements developed is to determine the three components of the velocity and all their first derivatives with good temporal resolution and accuracy in turbulent flows. The old and weIl established method of hot-wire anemometry was used for this purpose. One of the main achievements in this context is the construction of miniature multi-wire probes. This technique was introduced to the Institute of Hydromechanics and Water Resources Management of ETH Zürich by Profs. A. Tsinober and E. Kit from Tel-Aviv University. This was made possible by the generous financial support by ETH, for which I would like to express my gratitude on this occasion. In addition, Dr. F.E. Joergensen from DANTEC contributed an example of recent developments in the hardware ofConstant Temperature Anemometry (CTA), for which I am very thankful.

Book Beyond the Kalman Filter Particle Filters for Tracking Applications

Download or read book Beyond the Kalman Filter Particle Filters for Tracking Applications written by Branko Ristic and published by Artech House. This book was released on 2003-12-01 with total page 328 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For most tracking applications the Kalman filter is reliable and efficient, but it is limited to a relatively restricted class of linear Gaussian problems. To solve problems beyond this restricted class, particle filters are proving to be dependable methods for stochastic dynamic estimation. Packed with 867 equations, this cutting-edge book introduces the latest advances in particle filter theory, discusses their relevance to defense surveillance systems, and examines defense-related applications of particle filters to nonlinear and non-Gaussian problems. With this hands-on guide, you can develop more accurate and reliable nonlinear filter designs and more precisely predict the performance of these designs. You can also apply particle filters to tracking a ballistic object, detection and tracking of stealthy targets, tracking through the blind Doppler zone, bi-static radar tracking, passive ranging (bearings-only tracking) of maneuvering targets, range-only tracking, terrain-aided tracking of ground vehicles, and group and extended object tracking.

Download or read book Microrheology written by Eric M. Furst and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2017-09-29 with total page 473 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents a comprehensive overview of microrheology, emphasizing the underlying theory, practical aspects of its implementation, and current applications to rheological studies in academic and industrial laboratories. The field of microrheology continues to evolve rapidly, and applications are expanding at an accelerating pace. Readers will learn about the key methods and techniques, including important considerations to be made with respect to the materials most amenable to microrheological characterization and pitfalls to avoid in measurements and analysis. Microrheological measurements can be as straightforward as video microscopy recordings of colloidal particle Brownian motion; these simple experiments can yield rich rheological information. Microrheology covers topics ranging from active microrheology using laser or magnetic tweezers to passive microrheology, such as multiple particle tracking and tracer particle microrheology with diffusing wave spectroscopy. Overall, this introduction to microrheology informs those seeking to incorporate these methods into their own research, or simply survey and understand the growing body of microrheology literature. Many sources of archival literature are consolidated into an accessible volume for rheologist and non-specialist alike. The small sample sizes of many microrheology experiments have made it an important method for studying emerging and scarce biological materials, making this characterization method suitable for application in a variety of fields.
