Download or read book Media Education in Action written by Alberto Parola and published by Firenze University Press. This book was released on 2010 with total page 250 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Media Education (ME) has come a long way. Today, it can no longer be considered a field of study reserved for semiotic and communication researchers. Nor can it be regarded as a privileged practice of those teachers, who for some reason consider media of fundamental importance. On one hand, ME is now part of the agenda of international organizations, which consider the development of media competences a necessary requisite to fully exercise citizenship in the current contemporary society. On the other, ME practices are becoming increasingly widespread in schools involving a growing number of teachers. Notwithstanding, teaching the media still seems to be a rather solipsistic task where «everything is fine». Indeed, in ME there is a tremendous lack of research concerning the educational practices' quality and effectiveness. This book tries to cope with these issues by providing a set of instruments to design, develop and evaluate ME activities in schools, and supporting the enhancement of media educators' knowledge and skills.

Download or read book Epistemic Modality written by Paola Pietrandrea and published by John Benjamins Publishing. This book was released on 2005-01-01 with total page 245 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume offers an original theoretical and methodological approach to the hotly debated issue of epistemic modality. The analysis is conducted in a rigorous typological frame developed after a careful consideration of a wealth of cross-linguistic data, and focuses on Italian, a language often disregarded in comparative analyses. The complexity of the Italian epistemic system provides relevant information that will undoubtedly foster a better understanding of the topic. A new definition of epistemic modality is proposed on a functional basis and the structure of the Italian epistemic system is closely described. The morpho-syntactic characteristics of Italian epistemic forms are regarded as the result of the dialectic between universal functional pressures and peculiar system resistances. Shaped by the system, epistemic modality emerges as an intrinsically linguistic category, which cannot be downsized to a mere conceptual notion, as other approaches would propose.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Italian Verbs with Exercises is an extensive resource designed to assist learners of the Italian language in mastering verb conjugations and their correct usage. The book serves as both a comprehensive guide and a practical workbook for students at various levels of proficiency. The introduction of the book lays the groundwork by presenting an overview of the formation and use of all Italian verb tenses. It aims to provide learners with a solid understanding of how different tenses are structured, when they should be used, and the nuances they bring to the language. Following the introduction, the book delves into the core of Italian verb conjugation. It presents 161 model conjugations, covering a wide range of both regular (11 models) and irregular verbs (150 models). These models serve as a reference point for students, illustrating patterns and exceptions that are crucial for forming correct verb tenses. Each model verb is accompanied by a set of examples that put the verb into context, demonstrating its use in practical, real-life sentences. This approach helps learners not only memorize the conjugation but also understand how to apply it in conversation or writing. To reinforce the learning process, the book includes exercises that are strategically distributed throughout the text. These activities are designed to test the students' knowledge as they progress, ensuring that they practice conjugating verbs and using them in appropriate tenses. In addition to the exercises, Italian Verbs with Exercises offers an extensive verb list, featuring more than 2500 verbs. Each verb in the list references back to one of the 161 model conjugations, making it easy for learners to understand how to conjugate it by drawing parallels with the model. This list is an invaluable tool for students to expand their vocabulary and for quick reference during practice. Each verb in the list also comes with its English translation, aiding students who are learning Italian as a second language to quickly grasp the meaning of unfamiliar verbs and incorporate them into their active vocabulary. Italian Verbs with Exercises is not just a textbook; it's a practical companion for any learner who wishes to gain fluency and confidence in using Italian verbs. With its clear explanations, abundant examples, and rigorous exercises, this book promises to be an essential tool in the journey to mastering the Italian language. Whether for self-study or as a supplement to classroom instruction, it offers a thorough approach to one of the most important aspects of learning Italian.

Download or read book Epistemic Modalities and Evidentiality in Cross Linguistic Perspective written by Zlatka Guentchéva and published by Walter de Gruyter GmbH & Co KG. This book was released on 2018-04-09 with total page 407 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume explores phenomena which come under the heading of epistemic modalities and evidentiality in more or less well-known languages (Germanic, Romance, Balto-Slavic, Hungarian, Tibetan, Lakandon and Yucatec Maya, Arwak-Chibchan Kogi and Ika). It reveals cross-linguistic variations in the structuring of these vast fields of enquiry and clearly demonstrates the relevance and interplay of multiple factors involved in the analysis of these two conceptual domains. Although the contributions present diverging descriptive traditions, they are nonetheless within the broad domain of functional-typological linguistics and give access to distinct yet comparable approaches. They all converge around a number of key issues: modal verbs; the relationship between epistemic modality and evidentiality; the relationship of modal notions with some tense and aspect notions; the notions of (inter)subjectivity, commitment and (dis)engagement; the prosodic variation of modal adverbs, the diachronic connections between negation and evidential markers, the connection with mirativity. The volume is of interest to linguists and advanced graduate students working in general and theoretical linguistics, semantics, pragmatics, cognition, and typology.
