Book Parliamentary Practice

Download or read book Parliamentary Practice written by Henry M. Robert and published by . This book was released on 2015-07-13 with total page 222 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Parliamentary Practice: An Introduction to Parliamentary Law Robert's Rules of Order was published forty-five years ago with a view to furnishing a set of rules of order that any assembly might adopt, and thus avoid waste of time in constant discussion of what is parliamentary law in particular cases. When its circulation had reached a half million copies, six years ago, a revised and greatly enlarged edition was published under the title of Rules of Order Revised. The object of this book being to furnish a set of rules of order to be adopted by societies, it is necessary that the rules should be exhaustive and very brief. This prevents explanations and illustrations that are necessary for one unfamiliar with the subject. If the book were adapted to the needs of the novice it would not be suitable for adoption as the rules of order of a society. Therefore, while revising the Rules of Order, the author decided to write a work on parliamentary law solely for the reader, using all the space necessary to make each subject simple and clear. Book Handbook of Parliamentary Law

Download or read book Handbook of Parliamentary Law written by Fred Marion Gregg and published by . This book was released on 1910 with total page 136 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This work is a complete manual of parliamentary law and practice. It aims to provide in readily accessible form and understandable terms the rules of order by which popular assemblies are governed. It is at once and in the strictest sense a handbook for both the inexperienced learner and the experienced practitioner in parliamentary bodies. The following points distinguish it from other works of its kind: 1. It is systematic and concise in its presentation of rules and principles, each standing out as a distinct sentence on the page; and forms, rules, effects, etc., are clearly distinguished by a suitable arrangement of type. 2. The first part of the book provides a carefully outlined syllabus of parliamentary law freed from any needless verbiage of explanation. 3. The second part furnishes abundant explanatory notes, giving reasons and illustrations in parliamentary practice for the less experienced and the inexperienced parliamentarian. 4. The third part of the book gives specific directions for successfully conducting a club or class for the study and practice of parliamentary law, while the fourth part adds a hundred review questions as an aid to mastery. 5. The book supplies model forms of expression suitable to be employed in all parliamentary practice. 6. A unique and simple graphic classification of motions is furnished such as will in itself answer on a single page over four hundred parliamentary questions. There is also given a luminous single-page diagram of parliamentary motions. 7. A system of thumb indexing makes the information of the book immediately accessible, -a matter of great moment to one presiding over an impatient assembly. The book is the outgrowth of over ten years of experience in teaching parliamentary law to students in normal schools and colleges, and is designed as a textbook for use wherever the subject is studied or practiced.

Book Parliamentary Law and Practice for Nonprofit Organizations

Download or read book Parliamentary Law and Practice for Nonprofit Organizations written by Harry S. Rosenthal and published by . This book was released on 2014 with total page 253 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This handy and valuable parliamentary reference book fills a large informational gap for those who are preparing for and running nonprofit business meetings. An important complement to your rule book, the author simultaneously draws upon the three principal sources of parliamentary authority by including: 1. A sample of state nonprofit statutory law. 2. Selected legal case law. 3. Five of the principal parliamentary rule books. Information about the use of electronic technology, executive (closed) session, and conflicts of interest is also provided. Correct parliamentary meeting procedure is essential to the efficient and proper functioning of nonprofit organizations. Without it, an organization's goals and operation may be thwarted by inefficient and mistake-filled meetings. It is vital for nonprofits to stay informed on this subject. Parliamentary Law and Practice for Nonprofit Organizations - Third Edition is a practical and authoritative resource for professionals and volunteers who govern and participate in nonprofit organizations. The field of parliamentary procedure has seen a significant upsurge in state statutory changes and litigation. Parliamentary rule books have also been updated. This unique reference book fills a large void and will help nonprofit organizations when challenged to keep up with these developments before and during business meetings. For use by associations, foundations, condominium groups, universities, labor unions, hospitals, local governments and others with boards, it is not a procedural rule book but a very valuable addition and complement to them. And while not a substitute for the presence or advice of a professional parliamentarian or a locally licensed attorney, be sure to bring the book along before and during a meeting of members, boards, delegates, and large committees to research a variety of procedural situations. This book is also useful when studying the field of parliamentary law or drafting bylaws.
