This book was released on 2003 with total page 164 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A sensory integration approach, widely used in the practice of occupational therapy, is the most researched approach in occupational therapy. The effectiveness of the approach remains unclear because there is limited research to support. Occupational therapy has moved to family-centered practice; therefore, it is important to explore parent perceptions of the sensory integration approach. The purpose of this study was to explore the parents' perceptions of occupational therapy services using sensory integration techniques and how well parents feel that their goals for their children are being met.

Book Parent and Therapist Perceptions of Sensory Based Strategies Used by Occupational Therapists in Family centered Early Intervention Practice

Download or read book Parent and Therapist Perceptions of Sensory Based Strategies Used by Occupational Therapists in Family centered Early Intervention Practice written by Juliet Copeland and published by . This book was released on 2006 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A qualitative approach was used to explore the perceptions of parents and therapists in early intervention regarding sensory diets and their efficacy, particularly their goodness of fit within family routines and occupations. Open-ended interviews were conducted with therapist and parent participants and analysis of the data resulted in a model depicting how sensory diets became a "way of life" for families. The Sensory Diet "Way of Life" Model revealed seven themes that illustrated how occupational therapists in early intervention enter the homes of the families they serve and establish a "partnership" with parents to address a child's needs. Once this "partnership" is established, knowledge is transferred to parents who then transform their "vision" of their child and are empowered to generalize knowledge of sensory processing and sensory diets to ever enlarging environments. Ultimately, the sensory diet became a "way of life" for these families. Implications for the field of occupational therapy were given following the presentation of the model.

Book Parent Perceptions of Occupational Therapy in Early Childhood Special Education Programs Following Transition from Early Intervention Programs

Download or read book Parent Perceptions of Occupational Therapy in Early Childhood Special Education Programs Following Transition from Early Intervention Programs written by Anita M. Wyrick and published by . This book was released on 2003 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A qualitative approach was used to explore the perspectives of seven parents of preschool age children with disabilities in Virginia regarding occupational therapy and the transition from early intervention (EI) to early childhood special education (ECSE). Open-ended interviews were used to collect data from each family participant and were presented as individual case reports. A cross-case analysis revealed six common categories and four overarching themes. Results indicated that the transition was viewed positively when parents saw benefits of the change and when they were oriented toward the future. Parents viewed the EI and ECSE systems as not sharing their same perspective on the transition. The role of the occupational therapist was viewed as dynamic and shifting in response to the needs of the child, the family and the system. Lastly, communication, involvement and relationships with the occupational therapist were intimately related. Implications for the field of occupational therapy are given.

Book Parents Perceptions of Occupational Opportunities and Adaptations Prompted by a Weekend Camp Setting for Children with Sensory Integration Disorders

Download or read book Parents Perceptions of Occupational Opportunities and Adaptations Prompted by a Weekend Camp Setting for Children with Sensory Integration Disorders written by Rebecca Stephenson and published by . This book was released on 2000 with total page 268 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this thesis was to investigate parents' perceptions of the benefits of a weekend camp for children with sensory integration disorders and their families. In order to accomplish this several steps were taken. First, an extensive literature review, analysis, and synthesis was conducted. Second, data was gathered from the participants in the weekend camp by the researcher. Third, the data was analyzed using the theory of Occupational Adaptation as a framework for interpreting the data. Results from this study validate the benefits of the program for both the parents and the children. Implications include promoting future program planning for families in order to best fulfill their occupational needs across several areas in a family centered environment. The groundwork has been laid for future outcome studies validating or refuting the benefits of an occupational therapy program based in a naturalistic setting. This weekend camp serves as an example of occupational therapy meeting the multiple needs of parents through programming within typical community resources while meeting the need to provide occupational challenges for their children.

Book Parents Perceptions of Occupational Therapy Services for Their Children with Developmental Disabilities

Download or read book Parents Perceptions of Occupational Therapy Services for Their Children with Developmental Disabilities written by Stacey A. McCall and published by . This book was released on 1998 with total page 140 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study explored parents' perceptions of occupational therapy (OT) services for their children with developmental disabilities aged birth to 12 years. The intent of this study was to clarify parents' perceptions of OT services to more effectively serve the child and the family. Participants were obtained by sending survey packets to occupational therapists (OTs) randomly selected from the AOTA's Developmental Disabilities Special Interest Section, who each distributed surveys to two potential subjects. Examination of the surveys from 83 respondents revealed that parents were generally satisified with their child's occupational therapy services. Subjects, however, consistently expressed the following needs: (a) improved parent/therapist communication; (b) improved communication between OTs and other professionals; and (c) increased parental involvement in their child's therapy process.

This book was released on 2018-12-07 with total page 608 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Publisher's Note: Products purchased from 3rd Party sellers are not guaranteed by the Publisher for quality, authenticity, or access to any online entitlements included with the product. Frames of Reference for Pediatric Occupational Therapy, Fourth Edition, uses frames of reference for diagnostic categories (neuro-development, social participation, etc.) as effective blueprints for applying theory to pediatric OT practice. Updated with new chapters, case examples, and a new focus on evidence-based practice. This proven approach helps students understand the “why” of each frame of reference before moving on to the “how” of creating effective treatment programs to help pediatric clients lead richer, fuller lives. The book first covers the foundations of frames reference for pediatric OT (Section I), and then covers commonly used frames of reference such as motor skill acquisition, biomechanical, and sensory integration (Section II). A final section discusses newer focused/specific frames of reference like handwriting skills and social participation. A standardized format within each frame of reference chapter covers the same elements (Theoretical Base, Supporting Evidence, the Function/Dysfunction Continuum, Guide to Evaluation, and Application to Practice) to help students build the knowledge and skills needed for effective practice.
