Book Parent Child and Church Classic Reprint

Download or read book Parent Child and Church Classic Reprint written by Charles Clark Smith and published by . This book was released on 2015-07-12 with total page 184 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Parent, Child, and Church The following pages have been written with the conviction that others have experienced perplexities similar to my own in passing from a religious childhood, through a religious youth, to a religious manhood without ever having consciously experienced conversion, and still finding no place for that sort of religious development in such preaching as I was permitted to hear; and instead of deriving comfort from religious services, being, rather, made miserable, lest my religious life was seriously at fault somewhere without being able to discover just where. Since working in the pastorate I have made the acquaintance of several young people all of whom were trying to fit the experience of conversion, as popularly preached, into their lives with the same unsatisfactory results that I had experienced in my youthful days. Book The Training of Children in the Christian Family Classic Reprint

Download or read book The Training of Children in the Christian Family Classic Reprint written by Luther Allan Weigle and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-02-26 with total page 228 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Training of Children in the Christian Family This is a book for parents which deals with princi ples rather than with problems or cases. It aims to help parents to think for themselves; and does not undertake to present ready-made formulas for the training of children or prescriptions for use in various emergencies. It is not mere theory, how ever; most of its materials lie within the author's experience as parent and as teacher. The outline of the book is that of an introductory course for the training of parents, prepared and released by the International Sunday School Lesson Committee under the title of Hints on Child Training, as one of its elective courses for adult classes in the Sunday school. The editors of The Church School requested me to prepare a series of articles, following this outline, which might be used as a basis for study and discussion in parents' classes. In that form, the chapters of this book appeared in that publication, and have been used as a course of study by classes of parents in Sunday schools of various denominations, and as the basis for a year's programs and discussions by mothers' clubs and parent-teacher associations. It is hoped that the book may find a yet wider use by such classes and groups, as well as commend itself to the reading of individual fathers and mothers. My thanks are due to the editors of The Church School. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book Child Versus Parent

Download or read book Child Versus Parent written by Stephen Samuel Wise and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-03-21 with total page 152 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Child Versus Parent: Some Chapters on the Irrepressible Conflict in the Home Nothing can be more important than to seek to bring to the home some Of the responsibilities with which other agencies such as school and church are today unfitly burdened. False is the charge that school and church fail to co-operate with the home. Truer is the suggestion that church and school have vainly undertaken to do that which the home must largely do. The teacher in church and school may supplement the effort of the parent but cannot and may not be asked to perform the work of parents. The school is overburdened to distraction, the church tinkers at tasks which in the nature of things must fall to parents or be left undone. And the school is attempting to become an agency for the uni versal relief of the home, which cannot be freed of its particular responsibilities even by the best intentioned school or church. Book Correpsondences for Children of the New Church Classic Reprint

This book was released on 2015-07-16 with total page 80 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Correpsondences for Children of the New Church The following pages were first read to the Mount Vernon New Church Sabbath School, and are pub lished in the hope that they may be generally useful. If they are adapted to the states of children, they will be read by them with more or less delight; and I would recommend that the attention be not called to the questions, till the first pleasures of recep tion are passing away, and the book is beginning to be an old one. The questions may then be useful in fixing the instruction which has been received in the memory. Should these Correspondences be found to be adapted to the states of children and the wants of the Church, I hope to be able to add some on other subjects. S. R. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Religious Training of Children By mrs. Joel swartz Train up a child in the way he should go and when he is old he will not depart from it.-prov. Some have doubted the reliability of thepromise in this passage of Scripture because the children of Christian parents do not always become the fol lowers of Christ. Yet candid thought will make all confess that the failure must be in the training and not in the divine promise. It must be that the parent has not comprehended the full meaning of the word train or the necessity of beginning the training with the child's earliest years, while its na ture - is still so plastic that it may be moulded into a true Christian character, or some outside influences have prevented it from being reared up in the way in which it should go. The frequent references to his devout parents will impress the reader most favorably. Their fidelity made it possible for him to serve the Church so long and well, and through him they, being dead, yet speak. He has sought to enforce the same teachings in his own home. The present writer gratefully remembers the author as his first pastor, under whose ministry he became a member of the Church, and is glad to be permitted to write these few lines of introduction to this volume from his pen in his Old age. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Duties of Parents: A Discourse, Preached in Christ Church, Cincinnati, January 17, 1831 Phil. To be as bad as myself? I'm black enough, God knows! But, though, my beloved hearers, there are few pa rents, however had, who do not wish their children to be better than they themselves aref - yet, is it not too true, that most even of Christian fathers and mothers, do not fe'el as they ought the solemn responsibility which the parental relation devolves upon them? Hence the la mentable extent to which the duties of. Parents are ne glected, or very imperfectly performed. And could that fearful amount of sin and misery, which every where burdens, and pollutes, and oppresses the human family, be traced to its legitimate sources, much the largest por tion, I am persuaded, would be found to have originated in parental folly and negligence. Were this fountain of evil once thoroughly purified, our world would speedily present a far diflerent and happier aspect. 'doubtless many of you desire to bring about so goodly a result. And to such I would say that, in this-case, as well as in most other efforts to benefit society, it is best and indeed absolutely necessary (if we would accomplish much) to begin with ourselves: - and therefore, equally for my own sake, and yours, I now ask your attention to these words of holy scripture Bring them up, i. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Infant Baptism Church and by Christian parents. The best possible results of Christian training are rarely realized, for the reason that the training itself is imperfect. A thor ough course of training, where there is a due blending Of authority, affection and Christian teaching on the part of parents, and the proper care and influence on the part _of pastors, with prayer and faith, would breed up a style of Christian now rarely seen among us. This training, to answer to the divine ideal, must be based on baptism and the covenant therein entered into by the parent for the child. On what a vantage ground is that child placed who has been brought into covenant with God by its parents.
