Download or read book Parasitic Or Germ Theory of Disease written by Jabez Hogg and published by . This book was released on 2015-08-04 with total page 130 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Parasitic or Germ Theory, of Disease: The Skin, the Eye, and Other Affections It has frequently been suggested to me that my papers "On the Vegetable Parasites infesting the Human Skin," together with some others on "The Fungoid or Germ Theory of Disease," which lie scattered through the serial publications of 1859 to 1872, possess sufficient interest to warrant a re-publication in a collected form. Investigations made in connection with the question of a fungoid theory of disease having occupied much of my time and attention, it will lie seen that in this collection of papers I have endeavoured to bring together matters of interest bearing upon the infective nature and character of certain diseases in relation to the public health. Book Germ Theory Edition 2nd Edition

Download or read book Germ Theory Edition 2nd Edition written by Judith Herbst and published by Twenty-First Century Books. This book was released on 2013-01-01 with total page 80 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since prehistoric times, people have wondered what causes disease. Early people blamed evil spirits. Later, disease was thought to be caused by an imbalance of bodily fluids. By trial and error, people discovered plants that cured certain ailments. But disease still spread through dirty, crowded cities. In 1546 an Italian physician proposed that tiny, invisible bodies cause disease. By the end of the nineteenth century, doctors had discovered the microscopic organisms we call bacteria and viruses. This breakthrough led to techniques we take for granted, such as vaccination, the pasteurization of dairy products, sterilization of medical instruments, and the use of anibiotics. This book tells the story of how scientists learned about germs and revolutionized medicine.

Building on the recently recognized infectious origins of ulcers, miscarriages, and cancers, he draws together a startling collection of discoveries that now implicate infection in the most destructive chronic diseases of our time, such as heart disease, Alzheimer's, and schizophrenia."--BOOK JACKET.Title Summary field provided by Blackwell North America, Inc. Book The Discovery of the Germ

Download or read book The Discovery of the Germ written by John Waller and published by . This book was released on 2002 with total page 216 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 20 incredible years that revolutionised our understanding of disease. From Hippocrates to Louis Pasteur, the medical profession relied on almost wholly mistaken ideas concerning infectious illness. Bleeding, purging and mysterious nostrums remained staple remedies. Surgeons, often wearing butcher's aprons caked in surgical detritus, blithely spread infection from patient to patient. Then, between 1879 and 1900, came the germ revolution. Scientific virtuosity, outstanding intellectual courage and bitter personal rivalries characterised this breathtaking rapid sea-change in scientific thinking.
