Book Parapsychology

Download or read book Parapsychology written by Caroline Watt and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2017-07-05 with total page 526 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many people believe that they have experienced paranormal phenomena and others claim to possess psychic abilities. For the past hundred years or so, researchers have undertaken systematic and scientific work into these alleged experiences and abilities. This collection of articles provides readers with a general sense of the methods used in this research, the findings that have been obtained and the controversies generated by this work. They cover a wide range of issues, including the psychology of paranormal belief, investigations into ghosts and hauntings, laboratory research into extra-sensory perception and psychokinesis, and controlled tests of psychics and mediums. An introductory essay sets each of the selected papers in context and provides additional references for those wishing to delve deeper into the issues surrounding each of the areas covered.

Book Research in Parapsychology 1985

Download or read book Research in Parapsychology 1985 written by Debra H. Weiner and published by Research in Parapsychology. This book was released on 1986-01-28 with total page 256 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume contains over 70 original contributions to the scientific study of psychic phenomena. Research abstracts describe studies of psychokinesis ('mind over matter') on random number generators and other objects and studies of psychological and physical (e.g., geomagnetic) factors in ESP. Preliminary reports of research with novel testing techniques, as well as methodological and statistical advances, are also presented. Theoretical contributions include an informational model for psi test results and a commentary on the value of sociolinguistics for psi research. Roundtable discussions address such topics as fear of psi, mental states in paranormal healing, psi and consciousness, and clinical parapsychology. The book is of value to those who wish to keep abreast of the latest developments in scientific parapsychology, though many papers are of interest to readers who are not technically minded. Of special interest to scholars and historians of science are a special session commemorating the 100th anniversary of the founding of the American Society for Psychical Research and symposia evaluating terminological problems and parapsychology's progress over the past century.

The work presents conscientiology as the science applied to the study of consciousness (ego, personality) in an integral approach, with all its vehicles of manifestation (bodies), previous existences and attributes. The content being deepened and presented in a theoretical and practical way, so a reader understands the importance of this knowledge to their life. The science of conscientiology utilizes the best of the main lines of human knowledge: common sense, religion, philosophy, political ideology and conventional science; and is based on multidimensional self-experience, having consciousness as both the instrument and object of research.

Book Yoga Parapsychology

Download or read book Yoga Parapsychology written by K. Ramakrishna Rao and published by Motilal Banarsidass. This book was released on 2010-01-01 with total page 536 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Yoga and Parapsychology are two areas in which a significant amount of professional research is awaited. Parapsychology, considered as the discipline to study psi(psychic abilities), is essentially the science of siddhis (extraordinary human abilities). Yoga is considered to be an effective psycho-spiritual pursuit that results in the manifestation of a variety of supernormal phenomena. In fact, Patanjali's Yoga-Sutras is the foundational text of psychic science. One of its four parts, Vibhuti Pada, is filled with the description and discussion of a variety of paranormal phenomena. There is thus an intrinsic commonality between yoga and parapsychology, which remains essentially unexplored in any systematic way. A serious and scientific study of the two and the resultant synergy of their confluence could result in resolving many of the riddles that puzzle parapsychology today and be a harbinger of a vibrant science opening up new frontiers. Further, it could be seen as a productive East-West meet in a profound sense. Keeping this in view, a national conference and a workshop were organized during January 3-23, 2006 at Andhra University by the Institute for Human Science and Service with international participation. The present volume is a compilation of the major presentations at the conference and workshop, which are appropriately revised and edited in light of the discussions. The contents of the volume contain theoretical articles and reviews as well as experimental reports. Contributors come from different countries besides India, including the United States of America, Sri Lanka, the United Kingdom, Germany and the Netherlands. Thus, the volume is international in scope and coverage.

Book Parapsychology

Download or read book Parapsychology written by Etzel Cardeña and published by McFarland. This book was released on 2015-07-25 with total page 425 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many people have experienced such unusual phenomena as dreams that later seem to correspond with unforeseeable events, thinking of a long-lost friend just before he or she unexpectedly calls, or the ability to "feel" the presence of deceased loved ones. What many do not realize is that these types of experiences have been researched for more than a century by eminent scientists, including Nobel laureates. Most of these researchers have concluded that some of these phenomena do occur, although we are far from explaining them to everyone's satisfaction. This book is the first in almost 40 years to provide a comprehensive scientific overview of research in the field of parapsychology, explaining what we know and don't know about so-called psi phenomena, such as "telepathy," "precognition" or "psychokinesis." Contributors evaluate the evidence for these phenomena, accounting for factors such as selective memory, wish fulfillment and incorrect methods or analyses, in some cases offering psychological, physical and biological theories.
