Book Paragon a Science Fiction Romance Novel

Download or read book Paragon a Science Fiction Romance Novel written by Aubrey Watt and published by . This book was released on 2013-03-03 with total page 252 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the middle of the Arizona desert, a hundred feet underground, the United States military is illegally developing the first emotionally sentient android. Classified top secret, the mission has failed to successfully awaken the first two androids created in the lab. When brilliant neuroscientist Chal Davidson is called in to assist, the third android is just hours from being awakened. By the time she realizes the vast implications of her work, it's too late to stop the prototype's development. Torn by her moral and scientific responsibilities, Chal is even more confused by the emotional connection she is starting to feel with the newly-created man. The only hope she has is escape--for her and the android--and time is running out... EXCERPT:He floated now in the tank, attached with an IV to the liquid that would wake him from his unconscious rest. It was remarkable how much he looked like a normal human. Chal knew that, physically at least, he was as human as she was. It was just a matter of making sure his mind could weather the transition into consciousness. His dark hair waved in slow motion in the water. She watched him, for the first time taking in his appearance.Alan.He was handsome, and this was something that she had not prepared herself for. His body was perfect, chiseled and lean, and his facial features were decidedly masculine, dark eyebrows slanting across his brow, an aquiline nose. His naked body bobbed slightly in the saltwater, and Chal adjusted the padding around the sides, not wanting him to bump his head on the tank walls. She moved slowly, carefully, but her hand accidentally touched the prototype's limb. She let her fingers move on his skin. He felt warm to the touch, and Chal let his wet skin glide under the pads of her fingers. Smooth. Like a baby. Yet full-grown, a man already on the outside. It was strange, and as Chal examined him she felt a mixture of emotions surge forward under her skin. Curiosity surpassed all of the rest, but it wasn't a clinical curiosity as it had been in the past. Every animal she had worked with had been on the very low end of the Freitas consciousness spectrum. The difference between a baby rat and a full-grown rat had more to do with size and mobility than with intelligence. They could both run mazes, after all. But a human man is so different from a human infant that Chal trembled at the thought of waking the prototype up.Her hand traced the line of his shoulder, his neck. She was curious who he would be once he woke up. Would he be a conscious person? Really? His mind would be an infant's, although not for long. She would have to remember that, to make a point of remembering. His face was calm as her hand made its way up to his cheek and rested there. Chal's fingers stroked the skin at his temple absentmindedly. What will you think when you wake up?

Book excerpt: A gun moll with a knack for disappearing flees from Prohibition-era Harlem to Portland's Paragon Hotel. The year is 1921, and "Nobody" Alice James has just arrived in Oregon with a bullet wound, a lifetime's experience battling the New York Mafia, and fifty thousand dollars in illicit cash. She befriends Max, a black Pullman porter who reminds her achingly of home and who saves Alice by leading her to the Paragon Hotel. But her unlikely sanctuary turns out to be an all-black hotel in a Jim Crow city, and its lodgers seem unduly terrified of a white woman on the premises. As she meets the churlish Dr. Pendleton, the stately Mavereen, and the club chanteuse Blossom Fontaine, she understands their dread. The Ku Klux Klan has arrived in Portland in fearful numbers--burning crosses, electing officials, infiltrating newspapers, and brutalizing blacks. And only Alice and her new Paragon "family" are searching for a missing mulatto child who has mysteriously vanished into the woods. To untangle the web of lies and misdeeds around her, Alice will have to answer for her own past, too. A richly imagined novel starring two indomitable heroines, The Paragon Hotel at once plumbs the darkest parts of America's past and the most redemptive facets of humanity. From international-bestselling, multi-award-nominated writer Lyndsay Faye, it's a masterwork of historical suspense.

Book excerpt: Tadeo Raines knows what they say about him. It’s all lies. But lies are better than the truth. He broke the rules once and swore he’d never do it again. Now traitors plot against the fleet, and he's tasked with hunting them down and stopping them. Permanently. Tadeo was born to command, born to lead the last remnants of humanity to a new Earth. He knows there’s a better world out there: Daylight at the end of humanity's long night. And he's willing to do whatever it takes to get the fleet there. Even if it means walking the line between loyalty and treason. And breaking the rules... Again. Legacy Code is a suspenseful and dark genetic engineering science fiction series that has earned five star reviews from fans of some of the best sci-fi and fantasy books like Hunger Games, Divergent, and Red Rising, and has been compared favorably to Wool, 1984, and the new Battlestar Galactica. What readers are saying: If you like mysteries and/or sci-fi you will love this book!!! "This is a very good story that has your heart pounding as you turn the pages. Intrigue, nefarious plots, twists and turns around every corner - great series, even if you're not a fan of science fiction." "From the moment I read the first paragraph of Paragon, up until the last sentence, I was enthralled. Non-stop, on edge, exciting action. I honestly couldn't put a fault on this one, I loved all of it, including the song! The Fractured Era series is still up there amongst my favourite novels of the year." "Full of questions, traitors galore, secrets & suspicions. You can't even trust your own family in this world!" Phenomenal...that's the best word to describe it. Autumn Kalquist manages to weave a tale that is jam packed with suspense and whodunit plots. Just loved it with it many twists and turns that keeps you on your toes. The characters were great and you just didn't know who to trust in the conspiracy that was going on. ...Highly recommended series and anxious to read the next book. I love all of this author's books. I have read many post-apocalyptic and dystopian tales and this is different from all the rest. She always keeps me guessing. My only complaint is she doesn’t write them fast enough!! I believe this is the first 5 star rating I've ever given. LOVED IT! Such a great follow up to Legacy Code (which ended up on my Top Ten 2014 list) I love Autumn's writing style, she is so talented and takes you right there alongside the characters. This is a beautiful and unique story and I can't wait to read more!! "In a story where I fell in love with the characters, it is easy to have your heart broken, have a smile on your face, or cry over a simple scene in the book. This is one series I would never stop reading, and admittedly, have read on more than one occasion!" "This series has me intrigued, it feels realistic, real and frightening at the same time. Humanity is alone in space in their fleet of ships and they have nowhere to go, they try to find a better earth, a new home. I want to know if they ever find it." keywords: science fiction best sellers, top sci-fi books, top science fiction books, best sci-fi fantasy books, genetic engineering science fiction series, best science fiction novels, genetic engineering, space colony, space colonization, space opera, apocalypse, post-apocalyptic, generation ship, end of the world, space battle, space explorer

But twenty-five years after she helped vanquish Empress Eleanor, her parents still treat her like a child—and it doesn’t help that her sunny angel disposition makes her easy to overlook. When the king and queen leave Paragon for an extended period, Charlie decides to prove her leadership skills by throwing a party themed around a popular Earth holiday. Environmental scientist Liam Morris doesn’t do relationships or celebrations. In his experience, relationships are nothing but distractions, most of them doomed to fail. Pair that with a celebration… No, thank you. He’d rather spend his days on an iceberg in the Arctic than around a table with his family. Things get complicated when Charlie snatches Liam from Earth and brings him to Paragon, hoping he’ll help her iron out the details of her event. Will grumpy, bearded Liam be the answer to her prayers… or more trouble than she can handle? Here’s what readers are saying about the Treasure of Paragon series: “I haven't read a series this good since Donna Grant's Dragon Kings. It's rare for me to find a series that just pulls me in. This one definitely did that.” – L. Stanford “The nine books by this author and the best!! Ranks right up there with JR Ward and Gena Showalter. The characters and plot twists make them difficult to put down!” - A. Zdunski “This series has just the right mix of sexy shifters, drama, and steam. Definitely a must read.” -Goodreads reviewer “This is the best series I’ve read in ages!! I absolutely loved the stories of each dragon as he finds his mate!
