Book excerpt: A revolutionary new approach to managing panic disorders starting with the body, from a clinician who has helped thousands of people overcome panic “Jam-packed with comprehensive, practical science-backed advice and holistic tools . . . Dr. Cain is a force of wisdom, compassion, and empowerment.”—#1 New York Times bestselling author Dr. Nicole LePera Panic Proof offers a holistic approach to dealing with panic disorders, amounting to a personalized path to freedom for the millions of people who have had panic attacks. While other books have focused on the thoughts that contribute to panic, Panic Proof is the first book to teach the body that it’s safe in order to prevent panic before it attacks, with remedies ranging from probiotics, herbal remedies, and adaptogens targeted for your anxiety type to healing practices for releasing trauma stored in the body. In a warm and approachable style, Dr. Cain shares her personal story of managing panic, examples from the patients she’s helped, and her science-based protocol derived from a decade of working with clients to manage their own panic disorders. Guiding you through the nine types of anxiety that Dr. Cain has identified, the book includes quizzes, worksheets, and self-reflection checklists to guide you along your journey to panic freedom. In Panic Proof, you’ll learn: • How to shift from asking “what’s wrong with me?” to “what is my body telling me?” • How your endocrine system may be a root cause of your panic, and how shifting one hormone may affect your entire mind and body. • How to retrain your stress responses by recalibrating your autonomic nervous system so that it is primed for calm, not panic. • The latest research into holistic supplements, herbs, and psychobiotics for stopping panic and creating calm. With its research-backed, body-based solutions for preventing panic, Panic Proof will guide you to decode what your panic is trying to tell you and help you resolve the root causes so that you can finally achieve deep healing.

Book Panic Diaries

    Book Details:
  • Author : Jackie Orr
  • Publisher : Duke University Press
  • Release : 2006-03-01
  • ISBN : 0822387360
  • Pages : 375 pages

Download or read book Panic Diaries written by Jackie Orr and published by Duke University Press. This book was released on 2006-03-01 with total page 375 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Part cultural history, part sociological critique, and part literary performance, Panic Diaries explores the technological and social construction of individual and collective panic. Jackie Orr looks at instances of panic and its “cures” in the twentieth-century United States: from the mass hysteria following the 1938 radio broadcast of H. G. Wells’s War of the Worlds to an individual woman swallowing a pill to control the “panic disorder” officially recognized by the American Psychiatric Association in 1980. Against a backdrop of Cold War anxieties over atomic attack, Orr highlights the entanglements of knowledge and power in efforts to reconceive panic and its prevention as problems in communication and information feedback. Throughout, she reveals the shifting techniques of power and social engineering underlying the ways that scientific and social scientific discourses—including crowd psychology, Cold War cybernetics, and contemporary psychiatry—have rendered panic an object of technoscientific management. Orr, who has experienced panic attacks herself, kept a diary of her participation as a research subject in clinical trials for the Upjohn Company’s anti-anxiety drug Xanax. This “panic diary” grounds her study and suggests the complexity of her desire to track the diffusion and regulation of panic in U.S. society. Orr’s historical research, theoretical reflections, and biographical narrative combine in this remarkable and compelling genealogy, which documents the manipulation of panic by the media, the social sciences and psychiatry, the U.S. military and government, and transnational drug companies.

Book excerpt: “HURRY, BUY THE BOOK AND TRANSFORM YOUR LIFE.” — Marla Friedman, PsyD, PC, board chairman, Badge of Life What if you could stop panic by tapping into a different part of your brain? After years of working to help sufferers of panic and anxiety, licensed therapist (and pilot) Tom Bunn discovered a highly effective solution that utilizes a part of the brain not affected by the stress hormones that bombard a person experiencing panic. This “unconscious procedural memory” can be programmed to control panic by preventing the release of stress hormones and activating the parasympathetic nervous system. This process, outlined in Panic Free, sounds complicated but is not, requiring just ten days and no drugs or doctors. Bunn includes specific instructions for dealing with common panic triggers, such as airplane travel, bridges, MRIs, and tunnels. Because panic is profoundly life-limiting, the program Bunn offers can be a real life-changer.
