This book was released on 1991 with total page 184 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume contains papers describing many different fossils from lacalities in eastern, western and northern Canada. These studies provide a basis for the precise paleontological correlations necessary for accurate dating and analyses of the rocks that form the sedimentary basins of Canada. Abstracts are given for each paper.

Download or read book Devonian Climate Sea Level and Evolutionary Events written by R. T. Becker, 1st and published by Geological Society of London. This book was released on 2016-10-20 with total page 481 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The geological and palaeontological records of climate change and evolutionary events reflect Earth’s widely fluctuating climate systems. Past climates hold the clues to understanding future developments. In this context, research on linked climate, biodiversity and sea-level fluctuations of the Devonian contributes to the general knowledge of deep-time climate dynamics. A fruitful co-operation between the International Geoscience Programme IGCP 596 and the International Subcommission on Devonian Stratigraphy (SDS) addressed the complex succession of climate-linked Devonian global events of varying magnitude. The primary goal of IGCP 596 was to assess mid-Palaeozoic climate changes and their impact on marine and terrestrial biodiversity using an interdisciplinary approach. The focus of SDS includes a revision of the eustatic sea-level curve and the integration of refined chrono- and biostratigraphy with modern chemo-, magneto-, cyclo-, event- and sequence stratigraphy. This enabled the much improved dating and correlation of abiotic perturbations, evolutionary changes, organism and ecosystem ranges. Results by 37 authors are presented in 14 chapters, which cover the entire Devonian.
Download or read book Geology of the Appalachian Caledonian Orogen in Canada and Greenland written by Geological Survey of Canada and published by . This book was released on 1995 with total page 960 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Appalachian region of North America is a Paleozoic geological mountain belt or orogen occupying a position peripheral to the continent's stable interior craton. The Appalachian miogeocline and its extensions such as those found in Greenland form an open-ended continental margin. This volume details the geology of the Appalachian and related Greenland Caledonian Orogens, with a focus on the Canadian Appalachian Orogen. It describes the rocks of the Canadian Appalachian region under four broad temporal divisions: Lower Paleozoic and older, Middle Paleozoic, Upper Paleozoic, and Mesozoic. Separate sections cover the geophysical characteristics of the Orogen, plutonic rocks, metallogeny, paleontological contributions to Paleozoic paleogeographic and tectonic reconstructions, and East Greenland Caledonides. The volume is also intended as a report of progress in Appalachian geological research.

This book was released on 1994-06-30 with total page 446 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book collates a number of studies concerning the micropalaeontology of the Middle East with special reference to hydrocarbon exploration. It is an invaluable reference text which demonstates the applications of micropalaeontology and documents the microfossils of the region.

Download or read book Structural Denudation of Silurian Devonian High grade Metamorphic Rocks and Postorogenic Detachment Faulting in the Maritimes Basin Northern Nova Scotia written by Gregory Lynch and published by . This book was released on 2001 with total page 74 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report attempts to classify, correlate, and characterize some of the regional-scale fault structures which, in part, accommodated the orogenic cycle that occurred from Silurian to Carboniferous time in northern Nova Scotia. After an introduction on the geological setting of Cape Breton Island, the report describes early tectonic thrusting in the Highlands shear zone & Cabot nappe, the Margaree shear zone & Late Devonian extension, and the Ainslie detachment & Carboniferous salt tectonics. Implications for the understanding of some lead-zinc mineralization are also discussed.
