Download or read book Paleocene Pliocene Deltaic to Inner Shelf Palynostratigraphic Zonation Depositional Environments and Paleoclimates in the Imperial Adgo F 28 Well Beaufort Mackenzie Basin written by Geoffrey Norris and published by . This book was released on 1997 with total page 86 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Describes results of a study to document the palynological record in a hydrocarbon exploration well that penetrated 3,200 metres of sediments through Tertiary strata in the Mackenzie Delta area. The result is a pollen distribution analysis that will serve as a standard for Tertiary sequences anywhere in the Arctic and subarctic regions of the world. Over 200 species were analyzed to produce the resulting zonation. The fossils studied also provide valuable information about the environments in which the deltaic and associated marine shelf sediments were deposited, and record the progressively cooling climatic conditions. Systematic taxonomic descriptions of species new to science or new to the area are included.
Download or read book Fossil Fungi written by Thomas N Taylor and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2014-08-14 with total page 401 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fungi are ubiquitous in the world and responsible for driving the evolution and governing the sustainability of ecosystems now and in the past. Fossil Fungi is the first encyclopedic book devoted exclusively to fossil fungi and their activities through geologic time. The book begins with the historical context of research on fossil fungi (paleomycology), followed by how fungi are formed and studied as fossils, and their age. The next six chapters focus on the major lineages of fungi, arranging them in phylogenetic order and placing the fossils within a systematic framework. For each fossil the age and provenance are provided. Each chapter provides a detailed introduction to the living members of the group and a discussion of the fossils that are believed to belong in this group. The extensive bibliography (~ 2700 entries) includes papers on both extant and fossil fungi. Additional chapters include lichens, fungal spores, and the interactions of fungi with plants, animals, and the geosphere. The final chapter includes a discussion of fossil bacteria and other organisms that are fungal-like in appearance, and known from the fossil record. The book includes more than 475 illustrations, almost all in color, of fossil fungi, line drawings, and portraits of people, as well as a glossary of more than 700 mycological and paleontological terms that will be useful to both biologists and geoscientists. - First book devoted to the whole spectrum of the fossil record of fungi, ranging from Proterozoic fossils to the role of fungi in rock weathering - Detailed discussion of how fossil fungi are preserved and studied - Extensive bibliography with more than 2000 entries - Where possible, fungal fossils are placed in a modern systematic context - Each chapter within the systematic treatment of fungal lineages introduced with an easy-to-understand presentation of the main characters that define extant members - Extensive glossary of more than 700 entries that define both biological, geological, and mycological terminology

This book was released on 1999 with total page 428 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Natural gas hydrate, a solid form of natural gas and water, occurs in nature in association with deep permafrost and in offshore environments adjacent to continental margins. This report presents results of a gas hydrate research well project located at the north-eastern edge of the Mackenzie Delta. The project brought together researchers from North America and Japan to undertake the first investigation of a natural gas hydrate occurrence beneath permafrost that included extensive dedicated coring and associated engineering and scientific studies. The report compiles papers from the project in the following categories: an overview of the project, including drilling operations; a regional overview of gas hydrate occurrences, permafrost conditions, and geology in the project area; geology and biostratigraphy of the drilled cores; physical properties and geochemistry of the cores; characteristics of the gas hydrate, including chemical and physical analyses; downhole geophysics; and regional gas hydrate occurrences, production, and climate change considerations. Includes author index.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Recently, recognition of the potential role of large igneous provinces in affecting ocean and atmosphere systems and biotic evolutionary pathways has lead to increased interest in this province. This has been further stimulated by the expansion in the search for oil and gas in Mesozoic and Tertiary sediments along the NE Atlantic Margin. An improved understanding of the interaction between igneous and sedimentary processes is vital for the identification of potential hydrocarbon resources.

Book excerpt: "This volume atempts to explore and clarify the relationship among the geological records, the extinctions, and the causes of catastrophes for life in Earth's history. Most of the papers address the geological record and the extinctions across the Cretaceou-Teriary boundary, and the buried Chicxulub structure that is now consensually deemed to be of impact origin and to be intimately related to that boundary."
