Alongside his guardian bear Moon, his life has been difficult - being cursed with deadly voodoo and dragged into a world-threatening conflict by the dreadful Yewki. Since thwarting evil to the best of their abilities, Wick and Moon’s new life was granted to them by the Wizard Seffry and the fierce archer Lumni, and they've lived together out of harm’s way ever since. But evil doesn't sleep, and after an old friend returns to tell them that the fate he’d been told to disregard is in fact crucial to the next step in the mad Warlock Yewnin’s plans. There is more than one dangerous relic that Yewki’s brother intends to use, and retrieving said device will not only force Wick to don burdens he never asked for, but also bring newcomers from both sides into the ever-worsening fray. Trials Of Impending Night is the next chapter in Greenwick’s story of self-discovery. Kingdoms will fall, morals will be questioned, and death will come in abundance. And in the end, wills are brought to their breaking points, as the world prepares to change forever at the hands of hellish entities.

Download or read book Trials written by Martha Merrill Umphrey and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-11-30 with total page 587 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume gathers a collection of the most seminal essays written by leading experts in the fields of law, and cultural studies, which address the cultural dimension of trials. Taken together, these essays conceive of trials as sites of legal performance and as critical public spaces in which the law both encounters and interacts dialogically with the culture in which it is embedded. Inquiring into the contours of that dialogic relation, these essays trace the paths of cultural stories as they circulate in and through trial settings, examine how trials emerge out of particular social and historical contexts, and suggest ways in which trials themselves, as both singular events and generic forms, circulate and signify in culture.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Paladin is the conclusion of The Interregnum Series (Book 7), continuing its account of Hibernia's royalty from 1473 to date. After being discharged, half-burned and lacking memories, Lilian Morgan emerges at the Dublin City Dump. She knows only that she must keep the repentant Cain (Samadeya) on task with his millennia-old assignment of thwarting the enemy Pelik--alternate and unrepentant continuation of Cain--in his agenda of death and destruction. Discipline is swift and brutal when she departs from the mission. Lilian also shares one of the Cain curses: returning after death to some reorganised portion of her body. Paladin also completes The Throne Series (Book 4), re-telling in interleaved chapters the First Battle of Glenmorgan and the destruction of Manse Devereaux. Interregnum characters approach a new battle at Glenmorgan that will decide the outcome of Tara's civil war. Conflict and treachery at Tara threaten one Earth civilization with extinction. Pelik schemes for power over two other worlds...and springs a trap.
Download or read book Speech Crime and the Uses of Language written by Kent Greenawalt and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 1992-09-17 with total page 362 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this book Greenawalt explores the three-way relationship between the idea of freedom of speech, the law of crimes, and the many uses of language. He begins by considering free speech as a political principle, and after a thorough and incisive analysis of the justifications commonly advanced for freedom of speech, looks at the kinds of communications to which the principle of free speech applies. He then turns to an examination of communications for which criminal liability is fixed. Focusing on threats and solicitations to crime, Greenawalt attempts to determine whether liability for such communications seriously conflicts with freedom of speech. In the second half of the book he goes on to develop the significance of his conclusions for American constitutional law, addressing such questions as what should be considered "speech" within the meaning of the First Amendment, and what tests the courts should employ in deciding whether particular criminal statutes should be held constitutional. He concludes that the issues are too complex to yield simple solutions, and insists that the protection of the First Amendment can be reduced neither to one justification nor to one all-purpose test of coverage.

Download or read book Race and Drug Trials written by Anita Kalunta-Crumpton and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2018-08-13 with total page 328 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: First published in 1999, this book offers an innovative study of the impact that courts have upon the representation of black people in criminal statistics in the UK. In the past, research in this area has focused on sentencing and upon why black people are disproportionately represented in the prison population. Such studies have, however, overlooked the potential significance of discrimination in the pre-sentence social processes of the courts. Anita Kalunta-Crumpton adopts a new approach which examines the progress of cases prior to sentencing. Her book also locates the courts within a theoretical context of social construction. It thus, unlike earlier quantitative studies, represents the court system as non-mechanical. In this way 'Race and Drug Trials' exposes the vital role that the trial process plays in the apparent racialization of 'justice’. The volume is part of a series which brings together research from a range of disciplines including criminology, cultural studies and applied social sciences, focusing on experiences of ethnic, gender and class relations. In particular, the series examines the treatment of marginalised groups within the social systems for criminal justice, education, health, employment and welfare.
