Book Pagan Portals Have a Cool Yule

Download or read book Pagan Portals Have a Cool Yule written by Melusine Draco and published by John Hunt Publishing. This book was released on 2017-11-24 with total page 106 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For the entire Pagan community Christmas should be one of the most sacred times of the year, but the lack of any formal written liturgy has consigned the festival to a minor observance in the Pagan calendar. Have a Cool Yule demonstrates that history proves the festival to be a wholly Pagan event, worthy of being acknowledged as one of the Great Festivals along with Beltaine and Samhain. With all the different strands of Pagan custom brought to the hearth-fire of the Mid-Winter Festival, we all have something to celebrate in time-honoured fashion, whether our ancestors are Briton, Celt, Norse or Anglo-Saxon.

Book Pagan Portals Harvest Home In Gathering

Download or read book Pagan Portals Harvest Home In Gathering written by Melusine Draco and published by John Hunt Publishing. This book was released on 2022-08-26 with total page 92 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the good old days, the harvest festivals began in August (Lunasa - ‘beginning of harvest’) followed by September (Meán Fómhair) and October (Deireadh Fómhair) - translated as ‘middle of harvest’ and ‘end of harvest’ respectively. Harvest was one of the most sacred times of the pagan year and the Harvest Home or ‘in-gathering’ was a community observance at the end of the harvest to celebrate and give thanks for the bounty. Celebrating the harvest is still the holiest time of the Craft year and Lammas celebrates the coming of harvest-tide with its decoration of corn sheaves, fancy loaves, berries and fruits - all leading up to the Autumnal Equinox (or Michaelmas) that marked its zenith with the eating of the traditional goose and the raucous festivities of the community harvest suppers and country fairs.

Book Pagan Portals Western Animism

Download or read book Pagan Portals Western Animism written by Melusine Draco and published by John Hunt Publishing. This book was released on 2019-07-26 with total page 93 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A Zen approach to the World, the Universe and Everything. Many of today’s disenfranchised pagans in the West appear to be seeking a spiritual connection to life without feeling the need to become a witch, a Wiccan, a shaman, Heathen, or a Druid. Here the Shinto approach fulfils the basic need for a belief system based on what we would define as simple animism and ancestor worship in accord with the world’s other, authentic, animistic traditions such as the Australian Aboriginal and Native American way of life; while Zen provides the intellectual stimulation rising from the simplicity of basic folk-belief to elevate the soul to a higher level of mysticism.

Book Pagan Portals Rounding the Wheel of the Year

The wheel of the year turns smoothly, it doesn't bump over eight cogs, and that's the meaning of the title of this book. Inside these pages you will find the history behind some much-loved folklore and modern pagan customs, as well as practical suggestions for ways to celebrate the turning of the year.

Book New Model Island

Download or read book New Model Island written by Alex Niven and published by Watkins Media Limited. This book was released on 2019-12-10 with total page 140 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A study of place, identity, music, politics and regionalism which calls for a radical restructuring of the British Isles. In the early twenty-first century, "Englishness" suddenly became a hot topic. A rash of art exhibitions, pop albums and coffee table books arrived on the scene, all desperate to recover England’s lost national soul. But when we sweep away the patriotic stereotypes, we begin to see that England is a country that does not — and perhaps should not — exist in any essential sense. In this provocative text combining polemic and memoir, Alex Niven argues that the map of the British Isles should be torn apart completely as we look towards a time of radical political reform. Rejecting outdated nationalisms, Niven argues for a renovated model of culture and governance for the islands — a fluid, dynamic version of regionalism preparing the way for a new "dream archipelago".

Book Pagan Portals Breath of Spring

Download or read book Pagan Portals Breath of Spring written by Melusine Draco and published by John Hunt Publishing. This book was released on 2023-01-27 with total page 87 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Candlemas/Imbolc is the re-awakening of the Old Lass within Old Craft belief and also coincides with the Roman Candelaria and Fornicalia - a spring corn festival celebrated in honour of Fornax, goddess of ovens, and observed by each ward of the city. All this merging of primitive origins and rites, belonging to the European pre-urban agricultural culture, meant that it also commemorated the search for Persephone by her mother and the festival of candles symbolizing the return of the Light. So it continued to be performed until the Christian era, when it was transformed into Candalmas in AD494. In pre-Christian times, Imbolc observance began the night before 1st February, and celebrants prepared for a visit from Brigid into their homes by crafting an effigy of the goddess from bundles of oats and rushes. The clothed effigy was placed in a basket overnight, and the day was celebrated by burning lamps and lighting bonfires in tribute to her. Traditions from both the pagan celebration and the Christian observance of St. Brigid's Day can be found in the modern Imbolc festivities - while celebrants sometimes make a Brigid's Cross out of reeds, as well as a Brigid corn doll or effigy.

Book Pagan Portals Sexual Dynamics in the Circle

Download or read book Pagan Portals Sexual Dynamics in the Circle written by Melusine Draco and published by John Hunt Publishing. This book was released on 2021-03-26 with total page 91 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One of the most significant social changes in the 20th-century was the wedge driven between the males and females of Craft as a result of social media and political feminism. From a purely magical point of view the battle of the sexes has been one of the most negative crusades in the history of mankind since everything in the entire Universe is made up from a balance or harmony of opposite energies. Men and women are different as night and day but still part of the same homo sapiens coin, regardless of their individual sexuality.

Book Pagan Portals Living Fairy

Download or read book Pagan Portals Living Fairy written by Morgan Daimler and published by John Hunt Publishing. This book was released on 2020-11-27 with total page 103 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 'The experience of reading Daimler's book is rather like being taken firmly by the hand and danced through a whirlwind tour of both historical fairylore and the author's own lived experiences and hard-won gnosis. From academic perspectives and informed theories to pragmatic advice and practical rituals, a desperately-needed guidebook to the realities of working with the Good People, written by one of the foremost modern practitioners at the intersection of witchcraft and the Fairy Faith.' Misha Magdalene, author of Outside the Charmed Circle: Exploring Gender & Sexuality in Magical Practice The human world and the Otherworld have always been intrinsically connected just as the beings within them are, but these connections have been strained in the Western world over the last millennia. Cultural and religious shifts have pushed the Other to the fringes and centred humanity in the world and in many spiritual frameworks. As we move into the 21st century the Othercrowd is pushing back, seeking a return to their place in things. Many witches are feeling this shift. Living Fairy is a look at ways to deepen your practice of fairy witchcraft by actively calling the Good Neighbours back, and connecting to them more experientially. It emphasizes older ways of relating to them within a modern framework, while acknowledging the good and the bad that comes with this work. There is also an emphasis on moving away from solar and lunar holy days into a system focused on the stars, which may be an older way to relate to both the fairies and our spirituality.

Book The Fires of Yule

    Book Details:
  • Author : Montague Whitsel
  • Publisher : AuthorHouse
  • Release : 2013-04-30
  • ISBN : 1481707744
  • Pages : 360 pages

Download or read book The Fires of Yule written by Montague Whitsel and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2013-04-30 with total page 360 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the myth and folklore of ancient European cultures and spiritual traditions, the longest night of the year, called Winter Solstice, was a time of transition during which people sought out personal renewal and rebirth. The Fires of Yule provides a template and a pattern for entering deeply into the Winter Solstice Season, experiencing it in poetic and transformative ways through a contemporary calendar called The Thirteen Dayes of Yule. Readers of The Fires of Yule will follow a pilgrim path of the Thirteen Dayes from 13 to 25 December, engaging in various myths, symbols, stories, and rituals associated with each day. Becoming practitioners of the Yule, deepening their experience of the Winter Solstice, they will move beyond the more banal and commercialized forms of the December holidays. The calendar of the Thirteen Dayes is sourced (historically) in Celtic myth and Paganism, as well as (imaginatively) in the lore of the Elves of ancient pre-Celtic worlds. This book brings together many of the best-known icons and customs of modern Christmas traditions, re-sourcing them in the light of a Pagan Hearth and offering touchstones for self-renewal at Winter Solstice. This revised edition of The Fires of Yule presents the mystic pattern of Thirteen Dayes in its fullest expression, narrated in the voice of a fictional character, Cornelius Whitsel, a student of religion and a Pagan spiritual director in the Keltelven Traditions who lives in the imagined landscape of Ross County, Pennsylvania. Cornelius has been a character in two of Montague Whitsels other books; Ham Farir: The Faring of Matthew Thorin Dier (2008) and Tales from the Seasons (2009). The Fires of Yule is the culmination of more than three decades of the authors devout engagement with the Yule and deep reflection on the nature of the Winter Solstice. Montague Whitsel has explored, studied and practiced Western spiritualities grounded in the Celtic, Neo-Pagan and Monastic traditions for more than 40 years.
