Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Julián Romero, Sancho Dávila, Cristóbal de Mondragón, and Francisco de Valdés were prominent Spanish military commanders during the first decade of the Revolt in the Low Countries (1567–1577). Occupying key positions in this conflict, they featured as central characters in various war narratives and episodical descriptions of the events they were involved in, ranging from chronicles, poems, theatre plays, engravings, and songs to news pamphlets. To this day, they still figure as protagonists of historical novels: brave heroes in some, cruel oppressors in others. Yet personal, first-hand accounts also exist. Archival research into the letters written by these commanders now makes it possible to include their perspectives and the way they describe their own experiences. Looking through the eyes of four Spanish commanders, Protagonists of War provides the reader with an alternative reading of the Revolt, contrasting the subjective experiences of these protagonists with fictionalised perceptions.

Book A Comparative History of Literatures in the Iberian Peninsula

Download or read book A Comparative History of Literatures in the Iberian Peninsula written by Fernando Cabo Aseguinolaza and published by John Benjamins Publishing. This book was released on 2010-05-26 with total page 766 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A Comparative History of Literatures in the Iberian Peninsula is the second comparative history of a new subseries with a regional focus, published by the Coordinating Committee of the International Comparative Literature Association. As its predecessor for East-Central Europe, this two-volume history distances itself from traditional histories built around periods and movements, and explores, from a comparative viewpoint, a space considered to be a powerful symbol of inter-literary relations. Both the geographical pertinence and its symbolic condition are obviously discussed, when not even contested. Written by an international team of researchers who are specialists in the field, this history is the first attempt at applying a comparative approach to the plurilingual and multicultural literatures in the Iberian Peninsula. The aim of comprehensiveness is abandoned in favor of a diverse and extensive array of key issues for a comparative agenda. A Comparative History of Literatures in the Iberian Peninsula undermines the primacy claimed for national and linguistic boundaries, and provides a geo-cultural account of literary inter-systems which cannot otherwise be explained.

Book Cam Girl Other Poems by Fiorella Terrazas Aka FioLoba

Download or read book Cam Girl Other Poems by Fiorella Terrazas Aka FioLoba written by Fiorella Terrazas Aka Fioloba and published by . This book was released on 2021-11-21 with total page 264 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "When I read Fiorella Terrazas for the first time I felt I was reading the voice of my generation. In her poems I find the pains and hopes of those of us who were born between 1989 and 1996. We, the infamous millennials. We are accused of being made of glass because everything offends us, and we offend. Hyperconnectivity is not the only thing that characterizes us, so does hypersensitivity and both are closely related. FioLoba's poetry is hypersensitive in the rawest sense of the word. She doesn't approach millennials in the cliché way we are used to because she doesn't need to explore it, she simply unloads it in her verses." - Lucía Carvalho Fiorella Terrazas aka FioLoba (Lima, Peru. 1990) is a neurodivergent queer artist, poet and cultural organizer. FioLoba is a creature of the Internet. Her work has been published on websites, magazines and poetry blogs in several Latin American countries. FioLoba's poems are found in the intersectional blender of body, self-image, politics and gender, where queer-ethics and glitch-aesthetics become in turn positions for a poetic voice browsing across the decay of our technological future. Compiling the best of her poetic output into a new functional artifact, Cam Girl & Other Poems (2017-2021) is a wide-ranging selection of the work of one of Latin America's most notorious Internet poets.

Book Message to Aztl n

Download or read book Message to Aztl n written by Rodolpho Gonzales and published by Arte Publico Press. This book was released on 2001-04-30 with total page 308 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One of the most famous leaders of the Chicano civil rights movement, Rodolfo "Corky" Gonzales was a multifaceted and charismatic, bigger-than-life hero who inspired his followers not only by taking direct political action but also by making eloquent speeches, writing incisive essays, and creating the kind of socially engaged poetry and drama that could be communicated easily through the barrios of Aztlán, populated by Chicanos in the United States. Gonzales is the author of I Am Joaquín , an epic poem of the Chicano movement that lives on in film, sound recording, and hundreds of anthologies. Gonzales and other Chicanos established the Crusade for Justice, a Denver-based civil rights organization, school, and community center, in 1966. The school, La Escuela Tlatelolco, lives on today almost four decades after its founding. In Message to Aztlán , Dr. Antonio Esquibel, Professor Emeritus of Metropolitan State College of Denver, has compiled the first collection of Gonzales diverse writings: the original I Am Joaquín (1976), along with a new Spanish translation, seven major speeches (1968-78); two plays, The Revolutionist and A Cross for Malcovio (1966-67); various poems written during the 1970s, and a selection of letters. These varied works demonstrate the evolution of Gonzales thought on human and civil rights. Any examination of the Chicano movement is incomplete without this volume. Eight pages of photographs accompany the text.
