This book introduces the P-vector inverse method, with a two-step determination of the velocity from hydrographic data. The book provide insights into the basics of the P-vector inverse method and the features of the inverted global and regional ocean circulations. Upper undergraduate and graduate students as well as oceanographers, marine biologists and other environmental scientists will find this book a valuable tool for their studies.

Book Inverse and Risking Methods in Hydrocarbon Exploration

Download or read book Inverse and Risking Methods in Hydrocarbon Exploration written by Ian Lerche and published by multi-science publishing. This book was released on 2005 with total page 522 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book looks at how modern developments have enhanced the utility of basin analysis in hydrocarbon exploration. A major factor is modern computing power, which enables complex Monte Carlo-type calculations to be rapidly carried out; a second is the transfer of concepts from the economic arena to the theatre of hydrocarbon production, for example setting risking procedures to cope with data uncertainties. In addition now there are available powerful methods for handling the determination of parameters in the highly non-linear world of equations describing various facets of basin analysis. Th.

Book Regularization and Bayesian Methods for Inverse Problems in Signal and Image Processing

Download or read book Regularization and Bayesian Methods for Inverse Problems in Signal and Image Processing written by Jean-Francois Giovannelli and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2015-02-02 with total page 322 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The focus of this book is on "ill-posed inverse problems". These problems cannot be solved only on the basis of observed data. The building of solutions involves the recognition of other pieces of a priori information. These solutions are then specific to the pieces of information taken into account. Clarifying and taking these pieces of information into account is necessary for grasping the domain of validity and the field of application for the solutions built. For too long, the interest in these problems has remained very limited in the signal-image community. However, the community has since recognized that these matters are more interesting and they have become the subject of much greater enthusiasm. From the application field’s point of view, a significant part of the book is devoted to conventional subjects in the field of inversion: biological and medical imaging, astronomy, non-destructive evaluation, processing of video sequences, target tracking, sensor networks and digital communications. The variety of chapters is also clear, when we examine the acquisition modalities at stake: conventional modalities, such as tomography and NMR, visible or infrared optical imaging, or more recent modalities such as atomic force imaging and polarized light imaging.

Book Coefficient Inverse Problems for Parabolic Type Equations and Their Application

Download or read book Coefficient Inverse Problems for Parabolic Type Equations and Their Application written by P. G. Danilaev and published by Walter de Gruyter GmbH & Co KG. This book was released on 2014-07-24 with total page 128 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As a rule, many practical problems are studied in a situation when the input data are incomplete. For example, this is the case for a parabolic partial differential equation describing the non-stationary physical process of heat and mass transfer if it contains the unknown thermal conductivity coefficient. Such situations arising in physical problems motivated the appearance of the present work. In this monograph the author considers numerical solutions of the quasi-inversion problems, to which the solution of the original coefficient inverse problems are reduced. Underground fluid dynamics is taken as a field of practical use of coefficient inverse problems. The significance of these problems for this application domain consists in the possibility to determine the physical fields of parameters that characterize the filtration properties of porous media (oil strata). This provides the possibility of predicting the conditions of oil-field development and the effects of the exploitation. The research carried out by the author showed that the quasi-inversion method can be applied also for solution of "interior coefficient inverse problems" by reducing them to the problem of continuation of a solution to a parabolic equation. This reduction is based on the results of the proofs of the uniqueness theorems for solutions of the corresponding coefficient inverse problems.

Book Methods of Inverse Problems in Physics

Download or read book Methods of Inverse Problems in Physics written by Dilip N. Ghosh Roy and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1991-03-14 with total page 506 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This interesting volume focuses on the second of the two broad categories into which problems of physical sciences fall-direct (or forward) and inverse (or backward) problems. It emphasizes one-dimensional problems because of their mathematical clarity. The unique feature of the monograph is its rigorous presentation of inverse problems (from quantum scattering to vibrational systems), transmission lines, and imaging sciences in a single volume. It includes exhaustive discussions on spectral function, inverse scattering integral equations of Gel'fand-Levitan and Marcenko, Povzner-Levitan and Levin transforms, Møller wave operators and Krein's functionals, S-matrix and scattering data, and inverse scattering transform for solving nonlinear evolution equations via inverse solving of a linear, isospectral Schrodinger equation and multisoliton solutions of the K-dV equation, which are of special interest to quantum physicists and mathematicians. The book also gives an exhaustive account of inverse problems in discrete systems, including inverting a Jacobi and a Toeplitz matrix, which can be applied to geophysics, electrical engineering, applied mechanics, and mathematics. A rigorous inverse problem for a continuous transmission line developed by Brown and Wilcox is included. The book concludes with inverse problems in integral geometry, specifically Radon's transform and its inversion, which is of particular interest to imaging scientists. This fascinating volume will interest anyone involved with quantum scattering, theoretical physics, linear and nonlinear optics, geosciences, mechanical, biomedical, and electrical engineering, and imaging research.

This book was released on 2021-07-12 with total page 264 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This work addresses inverse dynamic games, which generalize the inverse problem of optimal control, and where the aim is to identify cost functions based on observed optimal trajectories. The identified cost functions can describe individual behavior in cooperative systems, e.g. human behavior in human-machine haptic shared control scenarios.
